I'm American and support the US women but I'm also partial to Costa Rica having spent alot of time there. CR's goalkeeper made some great saves and kept them in it. That small country probably spends next to nothing on their female national team but they still show up and play. A draw is actually a pretty big result for them against the US.

Yes! I think they should put Shaw in. Mal, Trin and Sophia are awesome, but I think Shaw has a certain level of fearlessness that a striker needs.
Mallory Pugh is really good. As long as she’s healthy, I think that’s all they need.

The first touch in soccer in the US should be emphasized more at all levels.
Smith, Swanson, Horan, and Rodman's first touch failed them in the first half.

They played very well they created chances. They are getting better paying together.
Horan as a number 10 is not going to work. She's too slow going forward. She needs to stay as a central midfielder.

A draw is considered a Victory for Costa Rica because they defended very well against constant attacks by the US and the goal keeper made many wonderful saves. The current US National Team does not play as well as their previous National Teams. What a shame!
Emma Hayes's first mistake as a USWNT manager was not bringing in more attacking midfielders.
Ashley Sanchez and Croix Bethune would be excellent subs for Lavelle.

i think they needed someone like Sydney Leroux who is good in the air as well as a ball crossing midfielder. Barely saw any crosses that connect. they kept trying to shots but those were easy for the Bermudez to deal with.
@@clydemacauley1554 Sydney Leroux is an aging forward who would not help much in creating chances, as would Lynn Williams. She shouldn't be included on the roster either. They're both excellent in transitions, but the USWNT needs more midfielders who will create opportunities for other players, especially when the opponent bunkers down defensively.

I dont know what s going on. Years before the uswnt scored five or six goals. Now it is impossible. I am longing for Press, Lloyd, Heath, Morgan, Rapinoe, Macario and Sanchez
The teams that they were playing were also just as different. It would be interesting to see what happened if those players played the international teams these days. They’d probably have a harder time

About the midfield: WNT can't win this tournament by playing both Coffee and Horan with Albert on the bench. Gonna need Albert's energy, endurance, and speed. By tournament end, Albert will be starting. I just hope it's not too late.
She should definitely start over Horan.
This didn't look like the 0-0 teams of before that created no chances and could barely maintain possession. This scoreline could have been like 4-0 US if not for a bit of bad luck and/or exceptional keeping from Costa Rica. The US team looks strong heading into the Olympics.

For a little perspective, #1 Spain lost to #30 Czechia 2-1. Stuff happens. That’s why they play the games. If Costa Rica had any intention of mounting attacks they likely would have been massacred. They essentially played defense all night. Their goalie also played very well. We actually scored a couple of times but were called offside.

This was just a friendly match so I’m not going to be as critical. It is hard to wrap my mind around the score just a tad when CR we’re never ever playing to attack, they just sat deep back and never made a real run. The USWNT could have camped out at the top of the 18th and could have made a run after run after run with no problem, CR we’re never going to counter. The USWNT had 18 corners to CR having not one. The USWNT had what felt like 90% possession and were having a hard time making logical decisions at runs. Ok that’s all for that.
My main moment of a tiff was not seeing Rose Lavelle on the pitch 😢. The USWNT need her runs, passes and pure grit to always attack, attack, attack. She is the teams press machine and you’ll notice that from the USWNT vs Mexico. The run Smith scored on started on the thread of a pass from Rose Lavelle to Rodman. She is a beast at the midfield position and the CR game made that very evident.
Lavelle picked up a knock so they subbed her out
@@kathrynreid4365 she sat out all game sadly. Korbin Albert sub for her in a last minute change. Albert did well and was a great sub.

USA have to get an awful lot better in front of goal if they are to succeed against Germany at the Olympics.
Got better players and a better coach than the men's teams, but can't beat Costa rica, lol

I don't see any talent in this team. Although US has good players but they are only physical and no technical players. US is not a futbol country like Argentina, Brasil and Spain and it does such difference in knowing the game

After this game, USA stands for yoU Suck Again. I hope the current team realizes how great their predecessors really were and how far short they are falling. Megan Rapinoe at her peak put corner kicks on other players' heads; she did not just send a hopeful ball across the box. Rose Lavelle was sorely missed; most of the through passes were too long and too hard. The ladies kept going to the middle instead of the corner (and crowding it trying to get out of each other's way) that Costa Rica could easily predict and defend. Swanson, Smith, and Rodman (on paper) are a dream team, but they are going to have to bring their A game to the Olympics. Last night was not it.

I agree 100% with you! Ever since certain key players like Press, Tobin, Sam Mewis and Julie Ertz (who only came back for a short time) haven't been playing with the national team, this US team has rapidly tanked 📉 they are no longer feared, there's no will to fight and claw like before to win no passion and most importantly there's no more quality like they had in 2019 and in 99' this generation simply doesn't have what it takes to succeed. I've always said it, and I will continue to say it, but Smith is ONLY good in club, not at an international level. The only good striker they have at the moment is Swanson, but she can't do everything alone. It will be a long time until the Uswnt becomes feared again. No gold and no World Cup title for the time being. Sorry, but I'm only being realistic here

Emma Hayes should let the great American champions play as they always have. A 0-0 scoreline against the 44th-ranked team does not reflect the USNWT's true potential. The players seem so afraid of making mistakes under Hayes that it’s jeopardizing their chance to go to the Olympics.

Not sure how that disallowed goal was offsides. Horan strikes - and there are two Costa Rica players between the US players and the goal. How was that offsides??

They also need better players. Sophia Smith isn't ready for primetime as well as Mallory. They're both too weak and feeble to be that effective on the international stage. There's no real class 1 or class A player on this US team. Just a bunch of overachieving class B and C type players.

Raising awareness and pointing out flaws is more patriotic than blind allegiance.

I can't believe Emma has the USWNT out there looking so IMPOTENT! IMPOTENT! IMPOTENT! Sophia Smith continues her inept and feeble act as a make believe center forward. She's probably had more good looks at goals in the last 4 games than anybody else in the history of the USWNT with the worst % ever. The US doesn't even have one class A player on the team. That's why they're still playing Soccer instead of Football, and that's not going to cut it in the Olympics and the WC eventually.
When the WC comes around there will be a different group of players And many of the current crop of players like Swanson. Smith etc will be in the 28 thru 30+ rand Horan won’t be there. Who knows what the makeup of this team will be. in 4 years but it will not look like this current team

Emma in . But she needs to drop Horan and levelle to start with. Both are very weak in the midfield. Horan is too slow and her decision making is questionable. Levelle couldn't get on the pitch with Man City. I hope Emma can straighten this out. If not the USWNT will not make out of their group..

It’ll take more than 4 games to get used to the Emma Hayes system. Plus Costa Rica’s goalkeeper made 12 saves so the USWNT still created a lot of big chances which were unfortunately saved by a goalkeeper who had a great game.
They'll have to work hard to get the stench of activism off of their essence. It's amazing that people would rather watch clips of a bad women's basketball team with a great player on it over this and even the men's basketball finals.
