This is one of those songs that is sickeningly relatable. Just like most everyone in the comments, it reminds me of a boy I’m still hopeless for. I shouldn’t even consider wanting to be with him after he pushed away my love, but I’m still there every night waiting for him to message or call me. How I perceived the song. He feels like a fool for liking a girl that either doesn't like him back or enjoy playing with his emotions. He cares about her a lot and obviously shows it by talking to her when he should be sleeping or taking her to the cemetery to see her mother. He explains how the washing machine confuses him and so does his body which could be his changing body or his newly grown boy hormones. He says "Don't hurt my dear, don't hurt my joy" which could be him not wanting lose his feelings for her because he feels like that's all he has.

Felt like putting this here, since this song relates to me alot. Love can 100% be one sided and often, especially when it comes to women, they move on so fast it will make your head spin, so I wouldn’t wait for “true love” because it might not be out there. During freshman year, my dad got unexpectedly from his job at the school I went to. It was my first year in a public school, so I had been counting on having a parent in the building. When I finished freshman year, my family moved about forty minutes away from the neighborhood I had lived in since I was 9. That year was… rough. I know a lot of people who say that middle school was the worst time of their life, but in freshman year, I just felt so… alone. Despite knowing several kids there from cross country or church or whatever, all the friends I made weren’t in any of my classes and had different lunches. I was still trying to figure out how to study, my child giftedness running out on me. I didn’t have anyone to sit with at lunch for most of my time there. My best friend (who was still in 8th grade, so different schools) had introduced me to This Is Home and a few other songs from cavetown. Even though I was still going through my faux-emo phase at the time, I had pretty big soft spot for cavetown. During my sophomore year I deleted a lot of the cavetown songs off my downloaded song list so that I could always be transported back to freshman year when I listened to them. And it’s this song in particular that always brings me back *hard*. I may not be able to listen to Boys Will Be Bugs or Hug All Ur Friends without crying, but it’s *this* one that just makes me *feel* my old home. The line “cycling to school at 7:30 in the morning” especially gets me. Back in my old town, I could walk to pretty much everything I wanted. My school was only 20 minutes away by foot, so I would walk to or from every once in a while. And I liked to listen to cavetown when I did it. “I like your voice, I like your mouth.” I’ve always wondered why the speaker in the song tells the person that they’re a fool for pretending to love them, and the speaker says that he’s a fool for chasing after something great. I would turn these lines over in my head like a stone, idly pondering how I could make it my OCs. Today I went to the first birthday of the nephew of my old best friends who introduced to cavetown. Afterwards, my mom, my sister, and I went to the cafe that we used to walk to all the time. And while I was standing in line trying to decide what to get (I ended up just getting a chocolate muffin. I didn’t really feel like getting the vanilla steamer that I used to order so often that one barista would just start making when I walked in), I realized. They were playing this song. I stood there, feelings racing through me, trying to process while the barista stared at me and my sister prompted me to order. When I got in the car to go home, I pulled up my playlist from freshman year. And that’s how I’m here right now.

How I perceived the song.
He feels like a fool for liking a girl that either doesn't like him back or enjoy playing with his emotions. He cares about her a lot and obviously shows it by talking to her when he should be sleeping or taking her to the cemetery to see her mother. He explains how the washing machine confuses him and so does his body which could be his changing body or his newly grown boy hormones. He says "Don't hurt my dear, don't hurt my joy" which could be him not wanting lose his feelings for her because he feels like that's all he has.

You know the song has been there, but you listen to it and something about it clicks for you. You've listened to it a million times before but that one time, it's different. The harmonies and melodies stand out a little more, and the beat of it pops.

cavetown is honestly the best comfort artist. i dont listen to him normally but when im having a breakdown his music is perfect.
I have this guy friend, we were high school classmates. I used to like him back then because of his wow personality, he cares for me, teach me when I didn't understand the lesson, he's a total best friend material. I like him but I decided not to tell him. Until one day, he brought up about the girl who's also his friend in junior high school and told me that they're already in a mutual understanding situation. I cried but of course who am I to feel jealous? He doesn't know I like him so I supported them and moved on. That was 2 years ago.
The most painful part for me? He confessed a while ago that he also had a feelings for me back then but decided not to tell me. I was about to cry the moment he said that. I also confessed what feelings I have for him back then but he said that that things needs to be whatever things now because he's already in a relationship and someone is courting me now, that we need to focus on what we have in this current situation. I said it's okay and it was all in the past. After that conversation with him, I cried. I never thought that if ever one of us make a move, things might be not in this way, things might be better.
This song reminds me of a boy that I won't ever be able to tell him directly but meeting him was genuinely a blessing and I don't know where I'd be without him

During freshman year, my dad got unexpectedly from his job at the school I went to. It was my first year in a public school, so I had been counting on having a parent in the building. When I finished freshman year, my family moved about forty minutes away from the neighborhood I had lived in since I was 9.
That year was… rough. I know a lot of people who say that middle school was the worst time of their life, but in freshman year, I just felt so… alone. Despite knowing several kids there from cross country or church or whatever, all the friends I made weren’t in any of my classes and had different lunches. I was still trying to figure out how to study, my child giftedness running out on me. I didn’t have anyone to sit with at lunch for most of my time there.
My best friend (who was still in 8th grade, so different schools) had introduced me to This Is Home and a few other songs from cavetown. Even though I was still going through my faux-emo phase at the time, I had pretty big soft spot for cavetown.
During my sophomore year I deleted a lot of the cavetown songs off my downloaded song list so that I could always be transported back to freshman year when I listened to them. And it’s this song in particular that always brings me back *hard*. I may not be able to listen to Boys Will Be Bugs or Hug All Ur Friends without crying, but it’s *this* one that just makes me *feel* my old home.
The line “cycling to school at 7:30 in the morning” especially gets me. Back in my old town, I could walk to pretty much everything I wanted. My school was only 20 minutes away by foot, so I would walk to or from every once in a while. And I liked to listen to cavetown when I did it.

I’ve always wondered why the speaker in the song tells the person that they’re a fool for pretending to love them, and the speaker says that he’s a fool for chasing after something great. I would turn these lines over in my head like a stone, idly pondering how I could make it my OCs.
Today I went to the first birthday of the nephew of my old best friends who introduced to cavetown. Afterwards, my mom, my sister, and I went to the cafe that we used to walk to all the time. And while I was standing in line trying to decide what to get (I ended up just getting a chocolate muffin. I didn’t really feel like getting the vanilla steamer that I used to order so often that one barista would just start making when I walked in), I realized. They were playing this song. I stood there, feelings racing through me, trying to process while the barista stared at me and my sister prompted me to order.
When I got in the car to go home, I pulled up my playlist from freshman year. And that’s how I’m here right now.
It was a great song. I only knew this because of my friend and now I'm here. Such a great song with a great lyrics. It's like the song was interpreting a story and that's what I like when it comes to this. Thumbs up!😄👍
