Nutro un'adorazione per Mindru Katz (nonostante la breve vita, indimenticabile l'esecuzione della Fantasia op.17 di Schumann ); dell'altro, superlativi i concerti per violino di ben tre compositori messicani del Novecento !
and so did i Rachel, very closely. he was a unique musician and personality, i feel very lucky to have known him. and henrik sherring too by the way. he came to give concerts with the Haifa symphonie orchestra.
Katz became good friends with Szeryng in 1969, after a Katz’s piano recital in Paris. Convinced by Szeryng in 1972, Katz agreed to record with him, a year later, the 2 sonatas (Franck and Brahms), for BBC 3 (1973). Thus, In June 1973 Katz flew to London, especially for this purpose. Marvellous to hear Szerying with his qualities in full flood, innately expressive and passionate in tone, texture and phrasing, remaining overall disciplined, sober, even restrained over the larger canvas. The violin tone is recessed in relation to the piano, i like it that way. I'm surprised by Katz, a brilliant soloist in his concerto recordings, (Khachaturian, Prokofiev....); here are several slips and smudges, along with a less than convincing ensemble with the violin at some points. Still, a very "live" interpretation. Thank you for sharing it.
Absolutely, it will be available for listening and freely downloading, in the best sound quality toghether with other historic recordings, on a website beeing constructed in memory of the pianist Mindru Katz. Sorry for the late answer-promise to send you the URL, the moment it will be on air.

As a performing pianist myself in Israel in the 60th and 70th before moving to the US, I knew Mindru very well --very fine musician.

Iony Katz this was very good idea to give us this interpretation
And where is Bhrams?
It's amazing interpretation. Really superb!
Lovely. Still my favorite recording of Franck's A major Sonata for VIolin remains that of Zino Fracescatti and Robert Casadesus.

It’s not a private recording, but an official one made by the BBC in 1973 !!!
Believe me, I know what I’m talking.
