Dude you rule. Was just going through a rut with double kicks even at super slow tempos and tried this exercise out from 80bpm, up to 140bpm. Already feeling the control coming back again!
Glad to be of help!
I’ve been using this to practice. It works!!! Thanks for sharing your talent.
I play in a decent metalcore band, but I still lack the consistency in double bass playing, so i always come back to those raw rudiment videos! Keep up the good work, bro
I love these videos man, youre a great teacher!
Gonna try this when I get home. I'll keep you posted!
Thank you…starting to play again after a long time off…this really helps…🤘🤘
Happy to help!
Thanks for the video, this is a very useful exercise and we actually did something similar in class!
Awesome! What class might that be?
Oh, I was actually already doing this exact same exercise by myself hahaha, still happy to have found this cause I'm looking more for tips on techniques.
Glad I could help!
Another banger of a vid! Cheers Cameron
Thanks so much Noah!
@@CameronFleury Not a problem. Thanks for being a legend🙌🤘🏻
I struggle with going from the groove into a fill back to the groove. Not just a drummer, I took some lessons for a while and I play bass. I just have trouble with that. I bring it up because I am sure I am not the only one. Cool tips, and congrats for getting Cris Adler's attention. 🤘😎
Is that something that you practice with a metronome? Try slowing down the fill you're going into. You could always practice the fill separately and then add the groove on occasion. Figure out what part is stumping you, and focus on that first. Then add it all together. Let me know if this helps!
That snare sample is wild. WHIPCRACK
Very cool!
If you have any questions about this let me know!
Thanks for this. I'm definitely going to check out your content on pedal adjustments. My pedals don't feel 'tight' enough for me.
There's no one size fits all, and it's all really going to depend on your personal preference. Get them to how you like them and stick with it.
where's the 2nd bass drum and beater. How does this work on a double bass kit?
BEST!!!
Thank you!
nice ..
I came across your channel on double base which is very much helpful. Is it good idea to use a bicycle drum throne for double base rather than a round one?
Whatever you feel comfortable using is the best one!
Sir do u want to practice the ankle motion in lower tempos with full leg motion?
Pls reply
One more doubt I can do the ankle motion, not perfect but almost getting to it. My doubt is when I kick the bass drum fast my ankles are working, I'm sure about it but my whole leg is vibrating when kicking fast. What will be the reason for it pls reply
Thanks so much dude. Even after only two nights of doing this routine for 20 mins really made me sound a lot cleaner and even allowed me to go faster without sounding like a broken airsoft gun.
Glad to be of help!
Man I can't even seem to get started like
My legs will not go for long at all what should I do to get this whole thing started like what should I be practicing I don't Wana just give up but it's hard to even get it started I know that I have to build and train muscles but how and what ones
Muy buen ejercicio es mejor hacer todos los días 20 minutos que gastar tiempo en otros más frustrantes
Hi cameron, quick question here: how do you do on top of the exercise not to be bored to death? I mean with my adhd it’s sound impossible to do for me... c
Cheers from Switzerland 🇨🇭😊
Simply change what you're playing on top! Try out different subdivisions or time signatures if you're looking for a challenge.
@@CameronFleury good advice!
How do you know when you’re ready to up the tempo? Once the 20 min + variations is done without any muscle tension or lactic acid build up?
When you feel comfortable and confident in your ability to perform it with the least amount of tension.
Well I'll try this for 4 weeks. Let's see how it goes
You can also include triplets and 16th note triplets as well. If you get stuck, reach out and I'll help you!
Howd it go
@@hooniganruiz5613 I saw his kit on eBay last January 😬
@@Chris-fg7sn 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm with. I started tonight. Hoping for good results. Good luck to you
Any advice on how to balance my body over the pedals? I can't seem to find that sweet spot where I can play fast (which is slow to most) without leaning forward or back. Plus i think one of the bearings in my pedals isn't working properly. I've gotten used to having two different tensions across my pedals, which are DW 8000s
Try lifting a leg and playing with the opposite leg. You need to build up your core and leg strength.
I've got a whole double bass drumming course chalked full of exercises for this exactly: academy.cameronfleury.com/offers/dcA2ru2o
@@CameronFleury awesome! Thanks for the reply. I'll take a look at the course.
Hope to see you there Devan! Reach out if you have any questions.
I do this excersize about every 3rd or 4th time I do footwork practices. When doing this, should you do 20 minutes of the same tempo? Or should we be increasing the tempo over the 20 minute period?
10-20 minute intervals. I wouldn't go for much longer than that. If you're comfortable at a specific tempo, then feel free to increase the tempo in increments of 5-10BPM.
i learned double bass by ONLY playing with ankles loool... so i was very very good on tempos 200 and up even loool...and then i was good at full leg motion tempos...but i never achieved the mid tempo stuff....doublebass is really a bitch to master....really really tough actually
I was getting up to 160bpm, feeling comfortable at 145 a few weeks ago, now I can barely play 130 cleanly. Feels like I've lost all coordination in my left leg, which doesn't make sense coz I've also been practicing keeping time on the hi hat with my left leg recently. Double bass has been the hardest thing to get good at its making me so angry it's like it's seasonal sometimes I can go faster other times im struggling with slow speeds. I've been playing for 7 years now my hands are way better but my left leg still sucks I'm just sick of it
exact same thing with me, one day you rock 180 bpm passages, next day you have to go down 20-30 bpm. feels like the left leg has spasms… over the last weeks, i figured i should move more freely w my feet and start again from a lower point. ill see where it gets me, but i wanted to let u know that im absoluteley feelin ya 🥲 how long have you been drumming?
@@jonasm.2254 since 2015 when I was 15. But when I started working fulltime I didn't progress much at all for a few years. Only been the past 5 months I've had time to practice often, doing paradiddles and double bass exercises. At least my hands are getting better, but I'm back to practicing double bass at 120bpm, which is what I started at 5 months ago haha
One super helpful practice tip I use is dedicate a portion of your session using of your left leg as the lead and just jam to some songs that don’t require double bass. Like, play some Millencolin with ur left leg instead of your right. Don’t worry about leaving the high hat open, just focus on left leg control.
@@bm9322 I should do that. I ended up giving up on double bass and started learning Latin drum beats and rhythms. Felt like a more useful use my time but I wanna get double bass down some day
Have you done any maintenance on your pedals? I oiled mine for the first time in…about 20 years and I was amazed at how smooth they were after.
What name of your double pedal
Axis AL 2's
4 weeks huh? ...will do
in 30 years of drumming I only get 125 bpm in sixteenth notes. I play almost every day, I do exercises with the metronome but nothing results. After 125 bpm I can't play anymore. The legs don't move. I do not know what to do.
Have you tried my free double bass drumming mini course? Academy.cameronfleury.com
😂 that bd sound
My daughter is 9 and what exercise will be the best for her double pedal progression? She's been playing for four months, check her out 👇🏼

Don't forget, the secret is not just any old double bass pedal. Gotta be long pedals with direct drive.
Check out James Payne.
never heard such nonsense. youre propably not even a drummer. it might make sense for speeds from 200 bpm, but you can get really far with many pedals from a mid price range. im using the iron cobra rn and im at 165-170 bpm atm.
I want to hear how u play without a double bass pedal. Do u know any groove?
Like Garibaldi Groove? 🤓
Double pedals can groove, all depends on the genre and application.
Background music should be in the background. Was struggling to hear him over the cheesy generic metal elevator tracks.
