- The western approach to London City Airport is the flight path that aircraft take when arriving at the airport from the west. London City Airport is located in the Royal Docks area of East London, close to the financial district of Canary Wharf.
When approaching from the west, aircraft typically follow a route that takes them over parts of Greater London, including areas such as Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, and the Canary Wharf, before descending towards the airport. The specific flight path can vary depending on air traffic control instructions, weather conditions, and other factors.
The western approach offers passengers a unique aerial view of some of London's most famous landmarks. Depending on the flight path, passengers may be able to see sights such as Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, and other iconic buildings along the River Thames.

London City Airport's short runway and close proximity to the city center require specialized training for pilots and specific aircraft capable of making steep approaches and landings.
The airport is located in a densely populated area, and noise abatement procedures are in place to minimize the impact of aircraft noise on local residents.
Overall, the western approach to London City Airport provides passengers with an impressive view of London's skyline and landmarks, making for a memorable arrival experience for those traveling to the heart of the city.
So much greenery. Beautiful city.
Yes, compared to flyovers of cities like New York and Los Angeles, London is so green, the planners in that city got it right. I got no idea what the planners in American Cities do as their cities look like hidieous concrete jungles with hardly any green spaces for their citizens to enjoy.
Only from the air. Like Kabul on the ground.
@@Symptomless_Coma_ You are chatting absolute nonsense.
no he is isn’t. London is a crime ridden shitehole
@@Symptomless_Coma_ What complete and utter rubbish. London is as far removed from Kabul as Kabul is from civilisation. From TravelSafe website:- "You should know that traveling in Kabul is extremely dangerous and is strongly discouraged. The current Afghan government has little control over Kabul, which is effectively a war zone."
bless you for no music
I’ve been a passenger on this approach at night. It’s genuinely a brilliant experience. That sharp bank over the Shard is great.
Very nice. London has built up quite a bit since I was there in 1998!! Thanks for sharing!
eu gostaria de conhecer Londres, sou brasileiro do rio de janeiro. De onde você é? (I'd like to meet London, I'm brazillian of Rio de Janeiro. Where are you from?)
Great video. I really like the many green spaces spread out over London. In my opinion London is one of the most beautiful and amazing cities in the world. Keep up the great work.
Enjoyed the bird view, wasn't aware London was so huge. Beautiful smooth landing. Thank you.
This was only a small fraction. London would take a good hour to drive from top to bottom, three if there was traffic
Greater London covers 616 sq miles (1,600 sq km, roughly) - and a population of over 9 million. But, 35% of it is green space. It's a stunner of a city.
35 million live within a 50 Kms radius of Big Ben!. That's half the population of the UK
One of the best videos on landing at LCY I've see yet! And as an Albertan taxpayer/really really really tiny partial owner, thank you for flying out of our asset! Along with 2 Ontario pension funds and the Kuwaiti Investment Authority, this is as close to landing at the the old Kai Tak as you're likely to see in 21st century aviation! Part airport, part thrill ride! I love it!
Defo.
I had no idea LCY is owned by Canadian investors! I’m moving to Calgary from (near enough) London in a couple of weeks. Will be departing from LHR however!
Always amazes me when flying over a very old city. How London was 200or 300 years ago blows my mind to contemplate.
Great British city 🏙 🇬🇧 and great landing.
I always think of London as my second home having lived/worked there for 10 years and gone back many time since. The flight into City Airport is magnificent. Nice video.
Great video and picture quality. music would totally spoil it.
Great video, thank you for sharing! Why would anybody give it a thumbs down? People these days, eh?
Really excellent video!! I have done the Heathrow approach over London many times but never this much rarer one into LCY! They go over the Canary Wharf buildings so low, wow! 😍 best city in the world!
Magnificent in all ways.
Beautiful video. Thank you!
Im on the brink of tears with how beautiful this is!
So amazing
My favorite airport for taking off and landing videos. London City 👍
Excellent video , fantastic views on approach.
Cheers
Great view of the DLR and Millenium Dome Building
Superb video, thanks for filming and sharing it.
Great video, love landing there, right in the city!
Gorgeous sound track - ideal backing to your splendid video. Very accomplished.
Excellent presentation,thanks
The filming quality is amazing - do you mind me asking what camera/phone you are using? I've hardly ever seen images as focused and detailed, and the colour is really vibrant too!
Thanks. I am flattered 😊 I have used a standard iPhone 11 Pro.
@@kurios_nl That's amazing, such great quality footage!
Excellent!
That was great, thanks Paul.
Excellent.
Great Video 😊
Amazing
I fly this approach quite often in MSFS Flight Sim so it’s great to see it for real 😁 Some spectacular views over London! Great video 👍
insanely well designed city, it just updates and evolves.
Very enjoyable.
Nice Video...Subscribed.
Nice graphics.
Only used City Airport once when I few out nearly two decades ago on the way to Amsterdam so hopefully one day I get to land in City Airport
Flight simulators look so realistic these days. Nice video of one.
Great video thanks :) can I ask what did you shoot this video with?
Hi, thanks! I have used a standard iPhone 11 Pro.
@@kurios_nl oh wow thanks
I love England. Hardly a straight road can be found anywhere. LOL
muy bueno,
Grazie, monsieur
👍👍
Is this real or a flight simulator?
I could see my house at Canada Water!
London looks so weird with so many suburbs in the middle of the city
For anyone else like me trying to map this, we start over Camberwell New Cemetery
I looked for the Crystal Palace transmitter but couldn't see it. Is it in the video, do you know?
@@kernow9324 I believe it’s the other side of the plane at the start. The camera’s facing north
Great! However, isn't it so noisy in central London? Aircrafts usually don't fly over such cities as Moscow and St. Petersburg, looks strange they are allowed over London and don't approach from other side.
Seriously? These aren’t 707’s, not the noisy jets we used to be plagued with.
London City is not a major airport so only small to medium aircraft land there. The big noisy aircraft land at the other airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton, which are all at the edge of the city. LCY is mainly for business people who pay extra to land near the middle.
I didn’t realise the Shard was basically on top of a railroad station.
It's next to London Bridge Railway Station (we don't have railroads).
It is - a corner of the Shard stands on what used to be part of the station concourse, which is much smaller now.
@@stanb4562 They've built a giant concourse under the tracks/arches
@@JohnyG29 We do have railroads, we just call them railways. They are the exact same thing.
I thought that this was flight simulator
This looks suspiciously like flight sim.
When reality looks like a game.
People still believe the world is curved..... daft
Intelligent one you are

This should be titled- Flying around London and THEN, landing at LC airport.👎
