  • In this episode, I'm riding to a small town in Colorado called 'Nederland'. Being from The Netherlands, I HAVE to visit this place of course! What I did not see coming, was that I had to ride through snow for the last 25 kilometers. And all of that in my summer gear! Oh dear...

    A tip: If you must have to ride in chilly weather without proper winter-wear then wear your backpack on your chest. Because your chest is one of the most vulnerable area, where you can catch cold and your bag is not at all penetrable by chilly winds.
    Other important areas to cover are nose, ear and throat. My father taught this and it helped me a lot.

      I was in a similar situation once in Wyoming, cold, soaking wet, and miles to go through snow. I stopped at a grocery store, took some of those one-use plastic bags from the meat department, bought a roll of electrical tape, and fashioned waterproof "mittens" over my gloves, wrapping the palms and wrists with the tape. The other customers looked at me like I was weird or something. Don't know why.

    Sabina
    Hi, I don't normally comment that much, but I have to say this anyway. I am a 57 year old woman, and your videos made me decide to buy a motorcycle. Not one to ride around the world (never been on a bike, let alone ridden one) But as I'm not tall (1.60m) I decided for a mini...the Honda Monkey 125cc to start. Of course I still have to learn to drive first, but next spring I will definitely explore BE and NL. So thank you for giving me the courage and that "Itchy" feeling to do this.

    For viewers wondering where exactly the wilderness rides are : At the 15:20 mark Noraly is riding out of Woodland Park CO into the Rampart Range and into what we affectionally call 'The Platte' along the South Platte river deep in the mountains of Pike National Forest. An incredibly beauitful and way out there place. Numerous forest service roads weave thru the area you really can get away from it all here. The fishing in the Platte is exceptional and the Rock Climbing is adventurous to say the least. Skipping across Interstate 70 Noraly gets on Hwy 72 the 'Peak to Peak Highway' up to Nederland a funkly old mining town now filling with rich hipsters and their million dollar homes. The old mountain folk are still here though and the hospitality with them. So glad you were able to route your trip thru Colorado ...theres no place like it !

    Lived in Colorado for 30 years of my life. The weather is unpredictable there, but the local rule is to "wait 5 minutes, it will change". It's taken many a hikers life. You set out in shorts and a t-shirt for a mountain hike on a blue sky day only to have a white out snow storm blow in. They sneak up on you in the mountains. The temperature can swing 50+ degrees and before you know it, the trails gone with a sheet of white and you are freezing. Anyway, the rule of thumb is to always dress in layers and tell someone where you went.

    • @madman3826
      @madman3826 Рік тому +4

      As a native of colorado I can can say that everything you just said is true 😆. If there is one bit of info I can give the visitors to Colorado that could save their lives, it is that you need to always carry water with you. If you are hiking always bring a good jacket with you and always leave room for a good pair of pants (not made out of cotton), and a pair of good socks in your backpack. Even if it is the middle of June or july, depending on how far up into the mountains you go, you could go from temperatures in the 80s to below zero in a matter of hours.

In India they saved me from frost bite as they not only keep your hands dry but also act as wind stoppers.... I just asked in a garage if I could buy a pair and they gave me a hand full ( no pun intended )

    It's so much fun to experience the world through your eyes Noraly. You have an eye and sense of curiosity that just makes each episode, regardless of what happens, enthralling to watch and listen to.
    The journey up Pike's Peak has me wishing I didn't pass it up when I was in Colorado. Perhaps another day.
    One other thing I'll add... A friend said to me once, "I bet you would really like to ride with Itchy Boots." I thought about it for a minute and said "No, I don't want to ride with her. I want to ride like her. Alone, on my own, with my eye on the road ahead." For him riding is a social activity. For me it's not. And that's what I like about the Itchy Boots channel content.
