The largest statue of Buddha in Sri Lanka is at Kande Vihara(Translates to "The Temple On The Mountain") in Aluthgama, a town near Galle. It is enormous compared to the Bahirava Mt Buddha statue. If you're still in SL, visit it.
Raja the elephant is a national treasure. It carried the tooth relic for many many years in a ceremonial parade called Perahara held once every year. And thats its actual skin and tusks preserved. I' ve seen Raja alive in perahara. Such a gentle giant. Choosing an elephant to carry the tooth relic is an whole another process takes years and years. Not every elephant get to do that. 1st they look for the pertentiol candidates. They must have specific physical characteristic. Then they were closely monitered for many years how they behave and how calm they are ect. Buddhist beleave in reincarnation. We beleave an elephant who gets to carry the tooth relic is some one who is going to be a buddha in many millions of years later. Thats why they are so important. And the elephant know it too. It knows how important task that it has in hand. I hv seen them keep their feet up not touching the ground untill people layout the white carpets when its carring the tooth relic. And if its not moving we know something is wrong. We have to find it and fix it only then its start moving. It could be a loose notch or a musked uncontrollable elephent ahead ect. It wont put the tooth relic in any possible danger. And It will protect the tooth relic at any cost. I mean there are so many examples. They are not trained yo do any of tgem thats why it tales a certain kind of an elephent to carry the tooth relic. Its how they observe and learn and react. You can find some videos on you tube with a lil help from the locals. Dont be surprised if you see some people worship yhis elephant. People do so coz it is a future buddha in elephant foam.

Drivers in Kandy,Galle and somewhat in Colombo used to lie technical issues on Pickme or Uber app when they have a card hire. When they have a negative balance on their account, card hires will deduct those values so driver wont get any amount. Most of the Drivers wants to cancel the Trip because to bypass the commission they pay to those app companies.

Just pay the amount which shows on the app. hope you guys have a great time. Tip: if you cannot find a tuk on the app, just put the location on the app( Pickup and Drop) and get the amount then stop a tuk which goes on the road . the amount which showed you on the app and add around 50-60LKR and go for that amount.

unfortunately, the unprofessionalism of three-wheel service is a common problem for everyone. However, if you can afford to pay half a pound extra, things will get much, much better.
If you’re implying we take a taxi instead by spending “half a pound extra” we were asked to pay an additional 1500 on top of the price quoted by the ride hailing app for a mere 2km by 3 taxi drivers the night before we recorded this vlog. It’s not just the tuktuk drivers, it’s the taxi drivers too who think they can take foreigners for mugs, needless to say, not all of them are like that 👍🏻
