Watching this makes me feel nostalgic and sad. These characters were so brilliantly played that the show almost seemed reality instead of acting. Why? Because the people themselves were great characters (especially Mike Reid, RIP). Eastenders these days is nothing compared to what it was back then, it's almost indicative of society itself, ie it was much better 20 odd years ago, and it's reflected here. These characters have gone and ironically there is a lack of character/personality in society these days!
i think this is a question of volume. There are too many episodes of each soap so too many characters as lots more time needed to fill, and none are that well developed as a result and you’re less invested in their storylines. In terms of reality there is so much social media and so many influencers and everyone becomes clones of one another trying to copy each other and we just lose individuality. A real shame.
Got Mike Reid playing a villian in a Minder episode (You need hands) from the early 80s ' think its the same episode which Suzie Quotro appears in ' have a look.
According to wiki he left cause he was having heart problems he did not return to the square appearing in episodes in spain in 02 and with pat outside the square in 05.
This was amazing acting by some of the grate acters in eastenders Frank was brilliant in the show pat was amazing has well thay all were in the good old days thay had the best ratings
Roy had been cheated on by Pat with Frank too many times. Hence punching Frank. Who kept leaving her just like he did again. Roy loved her and never left her and deserved better
A classic storyline. I could never tell whether Frank saw Pat in the mirror and left her deliberately (knowing he could never provide her proper loyalty and stability), or whether he didn't realise she was chasing his car and left thinking she had already left herself.
Yes! It gives an already biblical episode (night, rain, violence, heartbreak, tears, fireworks, reckoning, banishment) the extra dramatic ingredient of ambiguity!
@@chris7921 That's really sad. Ashvin was a fantastic actor and he brought the British Asian teenager persona very well to Eastenders through his portrayal of Asif.
I watched the episode where he does that yesterday on drama could not take the talk with Roy and Pat seriously cause the guy of Frank was propped up at the bar with a beer lol.
I stopped watching eastenders about 5 years ago and i have never watched an episode since...This was the golden period of eastenders with all the big families and great characters...I had watched it since day one but it seemed to go astray somehow and there was nothing gripping about the soap anymore....
This might sound clichéd but this was when Eastenders was worth watching. It started to lose it's way in 2002. I started to stop watching in 2004 apart from a few episodes here and there but stopped for good in mid 2006. Ironically, I used to get laughed at for Watching It back ASAP teenager and in my early 20s (maybe because people that age were out an about) but people think I'm harsh that I can't be bothered and haven't watched a full episode for over 18 years. I remember watching this IN November 2000 and remember thinking it was the end of an era. Frank never returned again to the Square aside from a few spin off episodes in 2002 - 04. RIP Mike Reid.
How did Frank miss seeing Pat come out of the square. Not an object you would miss especially blond hair and coat aswell.Be harder to miss a solar eclipse
"Shut up, Barry, I'm trying to watch telly." Another classic quip from Roy.
As Frank would say 'Roy, Bleedin turn in it will ya'
Despite everything Frank Butcher always had the viewers hearts and never came across unlikable
I stopped watching Eastenders several years ago but this was Eastenders at its best! Frank was one of the best characters!
You ever see Scrubbers ' the actress who played Pat was a screw in a womans prison.
How she runs round the square is hilarious!
Frank & Pat both legends

I couldn't agree more. These days most people are just standard blueprints. I can't see where the next Frank Butcher is going to come from.
Everything woke turns to s**t

Frank Butcher was/is the greatest soap character of all time; genuinely good acting!
That dummy of Frank always had me dying, especially when he punched it. Really wish i could find a clip of that 😂😂😂😂
Frank looks like he's doing his impression of the iconic kneeling death from platoon in the preview image.
The man was a snake ' espc after what he done.
Nice punch from Roy considering he was such a softie. Even Barry was surprised.
He threw better punches than you, and he was like, four times your age.
@@STEJTHEGREATEST I ment you was a genuinely nice guy who you would expect to hit no one. Nothing wrong with my punches and I doubt he is 160!!😂
After seeing Roy punch Frank, Barry should have said to him, "I didn't know you had it in you!".
@Phil Peebles But sadly Frank is one of those people who is never happy with what he has.

The guy who played Roy was a really good actor
Yes definitely
He was one of the best actors he looked serious. Shit actors were artur Fowler and a few others
Tony Caunter! He was a decent actor ' Z cars the Sweeney eg ' has dark hair then and more of it.
Should not have killed him off he was a good character
@@TextBookPuncher1 Bill Treacher who played Arthur Fowler was not a shit actor, he played his role brilliantly.

Hands down, best tv soap character ever to grace a tv screen, legend, Mike Reid you were the Don!!
Eastenders at its best ,brilliant acting in that episode
i like that it’s been upscaled to 1080p.
My gracious. It's like a scene from Walking With Dinosaurs, but I loved it regardless.
The frank butcher guy 😄😄
A classic era
Great acting by the late Mike Reid, it was a shame he left the show as he was excellent in his final stint in EE from 98 - 00 acting-wise.

Frank lamenting the fact he didn't go to university and therefore couldn't get a decent job and had to resort to being a car salesman
