I used fuji and sony for some years, I went all the way and got last year an A7 R4 plus a 100-400 gm lens plus some others. I finally decided to keep the fuji systems. The sony system is incredible and the 61mp was amazing, but honestly I was not getting what I was hoping for from Sony. I was using my fuji gear more often than sony, and I also was noticing I was having more keepers with the Fuji system. Its not always about the best camera but the one you feel more happy and conformable to use. cheers and cool video.
@@joao.s.cardoso even tho I'm not a photographer, I can relate. I have a big MP camera, but the software is not good, you know... 200€ phone with Android, you know what you get. Even tho the photos are almost like the iPhone, probably better, idk, but the experience you have using an iPhone to make photos and videos, is just good! It's the same with the gear, more than on a phone, cuz you also have the lenses and stuff, so...
I am stuck with my Fuji gear. I borrowed a7iv for a few weeks and Ohh My God! the video auto-focus took my breath away. In regional Australia, it's kinda hard to sell off used camera gear. Any suggestion where to sell please? My very last resort would be on eBay.
I did the opposite: Had (still have but am going to sell it in some days) the A7III and was always happy with the results and never happy with the experience of shooting. Now the A7iv shows me that I am not willing to pay that much for my next camera, especially when not satisfied with the shooting itself. Bought a fuji x-e4 two months ago and was thrilled about using it. Plus the results were very pleasing (the colors!). So since two weeks I have the x-t4 and am very happy about it, too. Had to sell almost all my fe-lenses but it was worth it.
@@supertal3 I switched completely after working with the X-T4 for some weeks. I have no regrets at all! The new kit is lighter, smaller, cheaper, has the amazing fuji-colors and the image quality is really good. Especially high-Iso is very well looking with the Fujis, way better then the full-frame Sony in my eyes. The AF is not on pair but good enough for my needs, the tracking - well, Sonys A7III has none 😉In my eyes, full frame is a trap unless you really need the full potential of full-frame. And by this I mean debth of field most. I bought the brilliant 18mm f1,4 from Fuji and I absolutely adore it although its equivalent is "only" 27mm f2. I have never had so much fun with my Sony as with the Fujis!
I started my photography with the XT4 and man there something in these cameras makes u loves them more and more now i have XT2 & XE3. Fuji image quality is great not the best yes i don't care for my photography its doing great and i am happy 😊
I'm actually thinking about doing the opposite. Thinking about selling my A7Rii setup to go Fujifilm, because I just love the film sim. Really resonates with my style.
I was a Fujifilm user for about 7 years, i changed all my Nikon stuff for Fuji for those great colors! Now after all that time i upgrade to Sony A7III with a Sigma C lenses 28.70 f 2.8 i'm a wedding photographer and after a couple of works i'm complete fall in love with Sony quality all around in a wedding day... best thing i could do, super happy!!!
I’m glad you like the Sony system. I currently have the Sony A7RIV and I feel like whenever I’m taking photos, I’m fighting against the camera to try to take them. Sure, the autofocus is good, but the lag when I change any setting is really annoying. The IBIS barely does anything, sometimes introducing a weird shake into the camera when it’s not in e-front curtain shutter (and this is at any shutter speed below 1/400!) The weather sealing works in heavy rain, but gives errors since the hot-shoe isn’t sealed well by the cover. None of my other cameras have ever done this. And to put the nail in the coffin, they discontinued my camera, with a grand total of two bug fix firmware updates, one of which was just a year after release. Autofocus, battery, and resolution are the only things good about the A7RIV. I’m thinking of switching to Fuji. I don’t shoot professional photos and doubt I ever will get a gig, so putting up with the many downsides of Sony isn’t worth it for me. 😞
Do you edit in LR? If so, Fuji Raws are really bad in LR. The worms and noise is annoying. There‘s even noise at Iso 640… I wouldn‘t switch from Sony to Fujifilm. I‘ve always been a Fuji shooter and the most annoying thing is editing in LR. I‘d use C1 but it‘s very different and hard to get used to. I‘m thinking of switching to a Sony a7Rii or iii which ever I’ll find for a good price. High resolution for cropping and low noise are the most attractive to me.
First thing I did was get rid of Lightroom and buy capture one! Made a huge difference. 🥳 I love the size of my XT4, although there’s a compromise in buying the new lenses as they have linear motors- they’re larger! I do a lot of street photography, so I don’t need the larger files, but I do wish I had Sony’s AF tech. I guess you can’t have it all. 🖖
When using Fuji, Capture One is superior over LRC. I use both. Do you really thin low light performance of A7 IV ist significant better thean on the X-T4?
I jumped ship from Fujifilm to Sony a few years ago. I began my journey with the A7SIII and then acquired an A7IV... but that came to an end after the X-T5 announcement. Since I need 2 camera bodies for my use case I decided to pick up a X-H2S... I'M BACK!!! I have no major complaints with Sony. I just feel more comfortable with my Fujifilm workflow. We are spoiled for choice.
@@DustAdventures It's been fantastic... so much so, I cancelled my X-T5 pre-order and acquired a X-H2 instead. I really like and will miss the unique feeling of working with a X-T camera, but acquiring both these two X-H cameras was a no-brainer for my wants and needs. It's a versatile set-up. I am still arranging my settings, but I figured out that I may want to tweak each body individually for their intended purposes.
I have two legendary lenses for Fuji, the 56 1.2 and 35 1.4. But for video they're almost impossible to use unfortunately. Buttons and looks and color science is better on Fuji but AF depends a lot on lens used.
@@terryjohnson5747 id say because the difference between “full-frame” and “crop-sensor” are becoming less obvious. Yes, there are some noticeable differences between DOF and ISO performance when comparing images side by side, but not by a huge amount. Fuji is doing an amazing job at keeping up with its competitors and even doing better in some areas with the fully capable APSC sensors.
Hi there, I’m my opinion there aren’t right or wrong… Take the one you enjoy most shooting… I had xt4 but was never happy with the picture quality especially in low light compared with my Nikon Z line up that I use professionally… got the Nikon zfc to replace my Fujifilm xt4 for my casual free time shooting and very happy now …
Thanks Dan for this nice video.I have a Sony a1 and a7R5 for mainly wildlife .I have been a fuji shooter for all the other items (street , family)I am not biased to one or the other.I must admit that sony has the edge if talking AF peformance , this is another world really! The sony files look sharper , more digital , while the fuji are more organic filmic.I don't know the reason , but in the end , the fuji photos are more attractive looking with nicer colours , especially in Jpeg film. The newest Fuji camera , I don't know you tested these , but after thoroughly testing the XH2S , I can assure you that the AF is on par with the sony a1!!
Can I set up custom shoot modes such as, landscape ,action or portrait in the xt4 like we can with a Sony or another camera with custom modes on the dial? Thank you.
I sold my Sony A7II after trying the xt4 for 30 min. I was so f-in sick of having to do EVERYTHING in menues, having to edit every single raw file if you want to use a photo, garbage battery life and hard to grade footage and c-log. So what if the xt4 is aps-c? The damn Arri Alexa is "Super 35mm" (aka same size), and saying that is "not as cinematic" as a full frame A7 is just... UA-cam vloggers are somehow so concerned with everything 'cinematic', yet everything they film is half framed garbage. The hatred that the second generation Sonys left in me still burns strong.
7:20 can't you just set VLC as default? I don't know how you do it in MacOS. I used mediaplayer classic as it works well with 4k HEVC gopro files on my previous pc, but I see VLC works on windows 11, but I could not edit HEVC on win 8 on my old pc. it has win 10 now, so maybe it can now. but the pc is not made for that. my new is. I've not tried Sony files, so don't know. I don't know if you can install a codec so all software will support the files. but in my case with the HEVC I needed to upgrade the OS. but I might have fixed it by buying hte codec from Microsoft. but not tried it, I upgraded os on old pc, and use an old pc. so not an concern I've looked into further. But maybe this will give you some ideas.
Stil have my Canon 5D III and six L series lenses including the 50mm f1.2. Several years ago I bought a Fujifilm X100T: fun to shoot, intuitive, great film simulations and, most importantly, light enough that it went everywhere with me. From there I bought the XT2 and later upgraded to the XT4. I now have range of Fuji glass, the f/2.0s for a light kit and secondly a slightly heavier fast prime selection when needed. The image quality is superb. I believe your criticism of artefacts in Fuji files should really be levelled at Lightroom’s raw processor and not the Fuji sensor. I run Adobe Lightroom and Capture One with the lattter providing stellar results with Fuji files. That said, a great image is so much more than peeping at pixels. For me personally, it’s not the gear but the skill of photographer that matters and any camera that makes me want to shoot is paramount in my decision making. If Sony does that for you, then you’ve made a great choice and I wish you al the best.
Get the Sigma MC11 adapter and you can use all the glorious Canon ef lenses. Canon lenses plus mc11 on A7R IV works flawlessly. I don't need 61 mp so Ill likely switch to the A7 IV. I also have the Fuji X T4 and LOVE shooting with that camera.
Great video, The Biggest problem with Fuji Raw files is Adobe processing. When u switch to Capture one its a totally different world the images are sharper, cleaner and the colors are also better even my canon raw files are better. I still use photoshop shop once i export but i never use lightroom or Adobe camera raw to handle Fuji files. Hopefully they fix that one day cause its a huge issue. I shoot full frame canon as well Canon R6 but to be honest the Fuji files from my XT4 are equally as good and with the newer lenses especially the 33f1.4 and 50mm f1.0 they are just too sharp and I end applying a bit of smoothening.
Yeah, I don‘t understand why Adobe can‘t fix this. we‘ve been waiting for a long time. I always knew Capture One was better but I just couldn‘t see it working with my workflow which heavily relies on Lightroom. Thank for watching, Elias 🙌
Some say it's goo to have the x100v and an a7s3/a7iV one for photo and one for video - is that redundant? Considering using a7s3 for both photo/video and selling x100v - can the Sony be stealthy enough with a small lens?
Funny. Sold my a7s3 for an xt4 but the autofocus is making me consider going back. My problem is I shoot SOOC and won’t color grade and love the Fuji recipes and emulations. Can you get similar looks on Sony Straight out of camera without the need to color grade ?
How do you compare rolling shutter in Fuji and Sony A7IV? I heard that it has some problems with that especially in fast panning. And I would like to share some thoughts about lens selection for you new Sony camera. Sony 16-35 is a good lens but too expensive for my taste, you can bay Tamron 17-28 2.8 + new Tamron 35-150 2.0-2.8 almost for the same price, or you can bay Tamron 17-28 2.8 + Tamron 28 - 75 2.8 G2 + Tamron 70-300 for the price of your 16-35 and all three lens will be much leighter. If you really ready to spend $ I would go for Sony 14mm 1.8 gm + Sony 24mm 1.4 gm + new Tamron 35-150 2.0-2.8 + Tamron 150-500 if you like telephoto lens. Sony 35mm 1.8 very good lens as well so it could replace 24mm 1.4 gm. Maybe for portreits I would go for Veltrox 1.8 85 mm very nice and affortable options. I also reccomend to get m42 and m39 adapters for vintage lens, you can have really nice and sometimes unique look from old manual lens for very reasonable price, try Helios 58mm 44-2 for the start.
You shouldn't judge lense pricing by the G Master series of Sony. These are top tier luxury lenses that are supposed to be super expensive. The Sony G lenses are a good balance on the other hand. But keep an eye on Tamron and Sigma, too. Especially the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 (first or second gen doesn't matter too much) gives you so much bang for the buck!
Thanks a lot for you tip. So may options to choose from which I'm not used to coming from Fuji. But I have already the Tamron 35-150 f1-2.8 on my radar which is not really a cheap lens though 🤔
Welcome to the #sonyfan I bought 2 a7iv’s and waiting on the a7siii to be back in stock! I went from Sony APS-C so the swap hasn’t been a complete reboot but getting all new glass is a pain! Have fun with the camera. I am very happy with the menu update and the new focus mapping feature!!
I tried switching from Fuji to Canon this year. I bought the Eos RP and hated it. The build quality was good, but the colors weren't pleasing, the evf was tinted green, and the AA filter made everything look less sharp than my Fuji cameras.
funny... i did the opposite switch, from Sony A7-3 to Fuji 3 years ago, today with the X-H2 which can do 8k in ProRes or even BRAW and besides the (at least today) slightly faster AF there is nothing i really miss...
Hey Ruben! Sony is definitely the sharper one! I used mainly the A74 for this video, especially for the sit down scenes but for the shots where I show the cameras, I used the Sony ZV-1. 🙌
I did the opposite, just returned the Sony A1, I really don’t get the hype around Sony, I wasn’t impressed at all. That’s the great thing about all of the systems out there, there is something for everybody. Happy shooting!
@@arsalanuljamil6840 The image quality, I don’t know if the 200-600 lens was a bad copy or what but it was awful. I did not like the back wheel on the A1, it was too stiff when trying to change my iso. The menu system was atrocious but I learned it pretty quick. I shoot with the D850 and Canon R5 and didn’t have the problems I had with that setup. For the amount of money that the setup cost me I just didn’t think it was worth it at all.
I was considering moving from xt4 to Sony, so I got myself an a73. I've had both for 2 years now. Won't sell all my fuji gear either, but was thinking about selling some + a73 to get the a74 and transition into making Sony the main system.
Fuji cameras shoot 4k 60p 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 only on a external recorder. Great points man. I'm close to getting rid of my XT3 and get me a Sony A7iv or just get a XT4 and make it my b cam to my XT3 rig as a professional video producer I love footage with character and the only thing holding me back is the heavy 60p crop of the Sony.
Hey Eddie, oh my god you're right. I'm just realising I had actually never shot in 4:2:2 then 🤦♂️ I see what you meant about the crop. The X-T4 had a crop as well in 4k and I don't mind the crop that much on 60p as I tend to like being a bit closer for slow motion shots anyway. Thanks for your feedback mate 🙌
I highly suggest making the extra investment into V90 SD cards and high speed reader that way you can shoot in All-I (XAVC S-I) which allows for ultimate image quality and proxy free workflow. The only downside is that having more hdds and or buying google's online storage solution becomes neccessary for file management.
Love my Fuji gear but also contemplating the jump to Sony. Looking at the 20mm f1.8 as a possible blogging lens! I might start with the a7c to test the waters.
Hey Justin, thanks for the tips. Bridge is currently not part of my workflow, always found it a bit redundant but maybe this is a use case where it would make sense. 👍
@@DanJacobs I understand that totally. It’s also nice if wanting to play with photos in Camera Raw, which is redundant to Lightroom but on a lighter scale haha.
Thanks for the great video! I have two XT-3 cameras and one XT-4. Im thinking of selling both XT-3s and getting the A7iv. We have a pretty big fuji lens collection so will probably sell most of them (keep only 2-3) and buy a lens for the Sony. Does anyone have any thoughts on what lenses to get for a wide variety of uses? I need to use it for photo and video and preferably something wide maybe 24mm and something with a bit of reach maybe 70-150mm
I would say that’s something not talked about! I had the same thing with Fuji…. Simply the way it is set up with its own dials really helped me fully grasp the exposure triangle even after years previously with canon :) . Great video Ty
Just did the same yesterday: X-T3 -> A7iV Breaks my heart to leave the Fuji System, because I loved the Diales. But when you need fast C-AF tracking the Fuji fails. Even the new T5 does not deliver, and I‘m not happy, that they now added way too much resolution in the X-Series! So let’s go FF, get used to the menu and that Sony logic… and see what happens…..
So the wormy problem you have is a artifact of the debayer of the xtrans sensor. Unfourtnatley lightroom does not properly support it so it just makes the image look like crap. If you open in in capture one or any software supported by fuji the images are perfectly fine
Fun fact, I originally had a comment about the colors in the video but then removed it so that the video doesn't end up too long. I heard people saying that Sony colors are so much worse than Fuji but I know Sony also made some adjustments recently so that skin tones and color representation in general are a lot more natural. For this video I just used the neutral color profile (no s-log, no cinetone) and did very minimal colour grading in post so I'm quite happy so far. 🙌
Great video you have a new subscriber! I just switch all my Nikon to Sony. So happy so far so mad I didn’t do it earlier! I second that previewing the files is annoying. I’m on a PC and I can’t even view them in VLC player
To play your sony clip with space bar. right click and go to get info. once the tab comes up go down to open with and switch it to VLC for all PM4. now you can just press space bar to review. the reason is the QuickTime player is at your default mode. QuickTime player do not start playing your footage even when you open with it, you have to press play to view. That is why most switch to VLC. hope this play
I'm in the same place right now, thinking about switching from Fuji xt3 to sony a7iv. But iam mainly prime shooter, having best fuji f1.4 lenses. And changing for Sony i will only affort 24-70 GM II wich has f2.8. It is tough decision. 🤔
If you want to simplify your kit and don't mind used, the selling price of a used X-T4 = the used price of a Sony A7c. Would make a great B cam/backup on the same lens and battery platform. You will of course miss out on the video bit depth and 4k 60 so maybe a deal breaker for you?
I did the opposite: have my A7R3 for five years, but got the X-T5 recently (and sold half of my FE lenses to cover the cost). After a decade of shooting Sony A7x, it's nice to have a lighter setup.
I cannot believe how similar our journeys are! I’ve been shooting way more video than stills over the past 2 years and am super frustrated with the poor AF performance in the Fuji (video mode). For stills, Fuji is great. But for video, they are falling way behind.
I just did it. Sold my Fuji gears and moved to Sony a7iv. My fist Sony camera. I had Fuji xt3 with Xf23 f1.4 and xf56 f1.2 both lenses were producing nice pictures but autofocus was not good. Both lenses were slow. I was blown away with the speed of a7iv. Currently I m stuck with Sony kit lens. I love prime lenses. I will buy soon sigma 35 and 85. Doesn’t matter how good the cameras are an apsc camera can never bit a full frame camera end of story.
Well actually an APS-C can beat a full frame easily. Fujifilm X-T4 for example has better image quality in RAW & JPEG than the Canon EOS RP. The **size** of the sensor isn't the only aspect for image quality, otherwise we would stuck in the same quality for years! Makes sense now, right? Edit: Let's not forget about video, Fujifilm X-T4 absolutely destroys Canon EOS RP and all Sony A7 series so far. APS-C is the standard format the Hollywood is using for the movies. Another prove that sensor size isn't about quality.
Nope, indeed, focus on Sony is a big game changer BUT the price is really painfull...i was dreaming to Canon R5 or 6 but yeah, my Fuji xt4 still do it good for me, and not going to change it in years
My brother doing wedding photographer for many years with Nikon. When he import some Fuji X-T4 images from my camera in Lightroom and starting to move sliders everywhere as he used to do with Nikon and than press reset and tell you don`t need to do anything here. And Dan, watch out green faces in dark environment and yellow colors with your Sony ;) and also in LR Fuji raw have that worms in image while in other do not have and red colors are not accurate in LR.
So I'm thinking of trading my a7IV for x-t4, but now I'm not sure anymore!! 😬 I've never been a fan of sony and their colors etc to be honest, but switched from canon a while back because they had some functions I needed that canon didn't! But always been a fuji fanboy from the sidelines. Getting more and more into video though, is the autofocus on x-t4 really bad compared to a7iv?
The xt4 focus is ok in most situations but don’t have video tracking and not even near to the accuracy of a7iv af plus xt4 autofocus depends on the lenses as with some lenses it’s good and others not usable so if u care about autofocus better get the a7iv
Xt4 AF is excellent for stills. For video it sometimes hunts in talking head type shooting. There is always manual mode. If you shoot anything you can’t reshoot I think you need to use manual focus mode anyway on any camera
I preview Sony footage on my M1 Macbook Pro and Mac Studio without any issue just tap spacebar and done. If you are on an Intel mac that may be the issue
Xt4 is 420. 422 on external recorder. Many people seem to be really annoyed that the a74 4k 60 is crop. That doesn't bother you? Cause you're gonna certainly lose that full frame look you're talking about.
Thanks for sharing, Dan. I also recently sold my X-T4 and bought a Sony α7 IV - my first Sony camera. I've only had it for a couple of days and haven't been out with it yet but so far, I love it! The autofocus is incredible - I'd heard Sony are good at this and even with all the hype, I was shocked at how good it was. I know they've improved their colour science with the recent models and based on the limited photos I've taken, I think they look great. So far, I only have the FE 35mm 1.8, which I love, but I already have my eye on some other lenses. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Take care.
Awesome, thanks for sharing Darryl! I know what you mean, I knew how good the autofocus was but experiencing it for yourself is a whole different thing. So excited for us new Sony shooters and thanks for being here. 🙌
Is the Eye AF reliable? I rented the A7R4 and 35mm GM. 70-90% of my eye AF shots were out of focus. It's either on the eyelashes or glasses. Do you shoot any models with glasses? Has Sony fixed the AF? Because I ended up using the A7R4 like a DSLR, focus-recompose with single point AF.
@@Size10Soles I am a full time photographer and so far no client will care about your colors off the camera which you must edit during production anyway. That’s why we use the true color full size monitors.
I was in a similar position. I had an APS-C camera and knew I would be going to full frame. I decided on the Sony system for the autofocus and versatility of the E-mount system. If Sony releases an exciting crop sensor camera, all my full frame lenses would work. I thought about keeping my old camera for a while but figured the resell value would only decrease with time. So sold it all a few months ago and waited on the A7IV. So far it has been awesome. The Tamron 28-70 G2 is a great match. I haven’t used it for any meaningful video yet so that’s what I am looking forward to. Enjoy, Dan!
Thanks so much, Brian! Definitely glad that I won't need to ask myself anymore "would this look better in full frame?" 😌I'm really excited to test it out more and I'm keen to try the new Tamron 35-150mm which I hear people rave about.
I started on a Nikon D5500, as I was starting my journey and learning about photography but as I was already very creative and have an artistic mind, it took me only a few months to pick up on everything I have read, heard or watched about photography. I then upgraded to a used 6Dll and went up from there up until I started shooting and handling my camera smoothly and without second thought, like a professional. I then spent a couple of months researching on what I should invest in next, as my talent and ability was held back by a non-pro camera body, so then I chose and bought a used 1DXll with a 50mm 1.8 and a 70-200mm 2.8 which I had up until a year ago when I decided to jump to mirrorless... Then I overwhelmed myself and tried like 7-8 different cameras from different manufacturers and since I don't do video whatsoever, the Nikons Z6ll was just better than everything else on the market at that price point, in every aspect, minus the Eye/Face AF of course... Which is why I am now considering Canon or Sony. One thing I don't like about Sony however, is the fact that their cameras are made almost entirely in China and Taiwan (or Thailand), to be specific, I believe I read somewhere that over 95% of camera parts for Sony are made in China and Taiwan or Thailand. As someone who shoots WRC and FIA events in extreme weather and temperature conditions, I don't like the fact that I would have to think ''Oh, look, it's pouring rain and thunder outside, I wonder if I can take my camera outside to do my job'' or ''Oh look, it's extremely foggy and there's 88% air humidity, I wonder if it's safe for me to take my camera out'' - I just don't even want to think about that, I want to be able to take my camera out, regardless of weather and temperature and being able to do my job without even remotely thinking about whether or not my camera can handle being out in that type of weather or temperature. I've looked everywhere on the internet and nowhere did I find any Sony photographer, who shot his A1, A9ll or A7RIV in heavy rain, snow, extreme humidity or whatever, without a rain cover, a warmer and whatnot. My Z6ll can handle everything from thunderstorms, heavy snow, extreme heat and cold, I've even shot in 89% humidity and thick fog for 4 hours and nothing happened! The only downside, as I said, was the Eye AF when the races are over and when we start shooting people, the Eye AF on the Z system is not that reliable - it's super fast, faster than Sony but it's not accurate and tends to hunt a lot... So now I'm thinking either of waiting to see if Nikon releases firmware update for the Z6ll to copy-paste the Eye AF scripts from the Z9 or to switch to R6 or a7IV... Hard decision...
@@nogerboher5266 That’s a pretty interesting use case. If you don’t do video, that is one less thing that you need to factor in - a bonus for you. The A7IV has amazing autofocus (I’m sure you know the R6 is really good too). I can’t speak to the weather resistance at this point, but my concern is actually heat (it can get to 115-120 degrees where I live). That was one of the reasons I went with Sony. But I wasn’t too invested in Canon, so it was an easy move. If I had a lot of glass in another system, not sure I would have done that. I don’t worry too much about where things are manufactured anymore. In the 80’s and 90’s, that would be something I thought of. Don’t get me wrong, it would be great to have everything made with German engineering and manufacturing. But places like Taiwan are very advanced now (big part of their GDP). The supply chains in today’s market are very complex. To me, the lines of where something is mostly made is pretty blurry. That’s the way I look at it, but your mileage may vary. Before making a decision, maybe you can rent each one. Or maybe wait and see what people report on using them in weather conditions. But it sounds like you might be more at home with Nikon. Especially for somebody using it for professional purposes. Big decision!
@@Brian-ss2dp I don't even know anymore... I feel like I'm not being smart anymore... I've researched for too long and too much about the build quality and weather sealings, I just feel exhausted from this entire thing, all I want is a proper, functioning camera at this point... I'm about to just rent 100 cameras and then go from there... That's how exhausted I am from this whole thing.
If I could only pick 1 camera it would be XT4. Sony is great but the color science is better with Fuji. Sony is my 2nd system because it is cheaper than Nikon and Canon and does good video with no record limit.
@@armandoferreira1346 I do not use the word organic, however the skin has a healthy orange glow. The Sony makes the same skin Brown. In post I can correct by adding a little golden hour.
I have a Fujifilm X-T20 and just bought a Sony A7 IV for vlogging my move from Canada to Mexico. So far I'm loving those 33 mps and super fast autofucus. Sony's rocking the hybrid world!..♥️
just my opinion but to avoid color matching and try to keep the same ecosystem within one brand, why not sell xt-4 + lens for sony a6400, 6600, or even zv-10? cheers
That's a good idea, for sure! I'm now just learning that the full frame lenses fit those as well which is great. I didn't want to buy a Sony APC camera if I'd need additional lenses for it.
@@DanJacobs ff lenses fit apc sensor, you are right, but you can always get apc sigma lenses like 16mm or 30mm f 1.4. best for sony apc! last year had a6500 + 30mm f1.4 sigma. one of the best combos. prices wise, sigmas are comparably cheap, even u can get second hand on ebay
Great video Dan! +1 Subscriber. I'm in the same boat right now debating upgrading the xt3 to a7iv. The big reasons are similar to your I love the full frame look, and honestly the autofocus (for video). I do a mix of landscape, action, and adventure photgraphy and I'm finding the autofocusing to bit anoying when it comes to video. I own a bunch of fuji primes and zooms so I'm a bit hesitant to jump until I see what the XH2 has in store. And I agree no matter what people say Full Frame has a look that APSC can sometimes match, but it's still not the same. Look forward to seeing more of your Sony content!
Hey Saul, thanks so much. Oh yes, the XH2. They could do some great things with that, I'm interested to see when it comes out. I can imagine that especially for action you probably get quite a few misses when it comes to autofocus. I have a feeling Fuji will catch up a bit more when it comes to video and autofocus, especially now that they've started releasing mark II of some lenses that have a different autofocus motor.
I’m thinking the same thing… I don’t shoot tons of action but I even feel like the XT3 just lacks AF tech that the Sony blows it away. I do love the Fuji files and edited in capture one Fuji you don’t get the worm effect like Lightroom. I only have the 15-55mm 2.8 and 50-140mm 2.8 and they produce great images. With a small rig cage and some warp stable I can archive pretty good footage and easily toss it on my gimbal. I’m expecting my first child in AUG and want something that has fast lock on AF and I’ve been also itching for a bit more resolution. If I sold xt3 and both lenses for fair price on KEH or MPB I’d break even with buying the A74 and 24-105mm F4 to get me started. Idk that I’d miss the tele zoom that much off the bat and if I wanted a bit more reach for photo I can shoot in apsc mode. If I wanted or needed longer zooms for a trip or project I’d prob just rent them for a long weekend. I’m pretty torn. I’m also anxious to see what the XH2 has to offer but would need it to be sub 3k I think for me to even consider plus I don’t really need 8k or even Raw for what I’m doing.
@@jdpst20 from what I’ve been hearing from Dee Rosa on UA-cam the new sensor being a *stacked* backside illuminated would mean that the autofocus should theoretically improve as that’s what happened with the new Nikon cameras. Once they add the stacked bsi sensor it apparently helps autofocus but hey who know I’m just a casual shooter and don’t know this stuff well haha
@@saulsigalov True True I hear ya and I'm in the same sorta boat... I don't MAKE $$ off of photo or video "that" much where I NEED the latest and greatest gear but I'm just wondering if It's time to off load the XT3 while prices for used ones are still decent. I mean it is still a great camera the XT3 but maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to buy some new stuff or switch it up a little. I don't mind the 24mp of the Fuji but idk I feel like just a bit more resolution would be great... and the AF improvement would be well worth the upgrade.
@@jdpst20 lmao yeah brotha join the club. GAS is a real thing and youtube doesn't help by providing information on the latest and greatest! My only hesitation switching system is all the x-mount lenses I have. Rokinon 12mmf2, Fuji 10-24, 23+35+50mm F2, TT artisan50mm1.2, Fuji 50-140, Fuji 70-300...I may as well just get a second body instead of try and sell it all. But sometimes I do wonder what sony life would be like....
I do weddings and shoot mainly with A7iii’s along with fast glass like the 24mm gm and 55mm and they work perfect. I do also have the xt4 with the 56 1.2 and 35 1.4. I don’t do video but here is my 2 cent on this. For my weddings I use both. The fuji colours and the Depth you get to the image is insane. It’s like art it just has this unique look to it that blows my mind. Now when I need to use fast movement and dancing shots my Sonys are in but during the day and with people standing around I lean towards the fuji and fuji jpegs at that. In edit I just brighten it up or darken it and I might adjust white balance but for the most part I’m barely adjusting. It’s less time in front of the screen editing so it pays to have both systems for the look in after. I found with sony Putting so much in after to get the look I need that it counteracts the fact it’s perfect in every other way. I also enjoy using the fuji more. The files blow my mind. It has that something that I can only call Depth, like looking into someone sole.
while you have the sony and fuji body, would you mind doing a video about how to best color match the two systems IF you ever had to film with both cameras at the same time? if its ok, i would love to also see the video differences hearing that the xt4 has 2nd native ISO at 2000 or so, and would love to see how it compares to sony. thank you. I personally am fine shooting with fuji as a solo person, but to join my friends in larger works they all use sony. So its a personal dilemma for which way to go for.
Thank so much for watching. I‘ll definitely look into it. I don‘t feel I‘m qualified to comment on it just yet but as I get more used to the Sony and the differences to Fuji, I‘ll make a follow up 🙌
You probably made the right call. Fuji are getting greedy. The price of the XT5 is ridiculous for what it is and I can tell from my XT1 that Fuji cameras aren't as well made as other brands. I no longer have a DSLR but still have Canon lenses. It seems like a no brainer now to only keep the bare minimum of Fuji gear for sentimental reasons because I used it during lockdowns and adapt my Canon lenses to whichever new Canon or Sony mirrorless I choose. I was looking at Nikon too but people have been using Canon lenses on Sony for so long now that I'm more confident of most adapters working well.
Cool vid, gave me what I needed to hear. I've been eyeing Full-frames as well and the Sony cameras are my go for video, used to shoot with Sony HDR-HC7 series back in the 00s. Now I've been investing in the Fujifilm line rocking a broke-ass XT200. I think I'll be up grading to the Xt4 for now and skipping Sony. That file format part brought back memories of the pain I had with photos on the HDRHC7 and also their proprietary cords, cables, and cards.
So glad I found your channel and so shocked you don't have more subscribers. Great job! I enjoyed your video despite the fact I just did the exact opposite, switching from Sony to Fujifilm hihi.
For me also from Fujifilm to sony just last week.. I sold my xt4,80mm macro and 16-80mm to get the sony A7Iv for me i getting to love the sony for its image quality, being a full frame i got the 20mm 1.8 and wow amazing. But to still for my personal opinion i missing the film simulation of fuji.
For sure looking at Tamron next. Having my eyes on the new 35-150mm which would make the perfect second lens, I think. I still have a lot to learn about lenses for Sony. I heard so many creators rave about the 16-35 as the perfect lens for UA-cam so I grabbed it in a Black Friday sale.
@@town3 facts? lol. That’s hilarious. There is no definition for the ‘FFL’, so something that’s subjective opinion can hardly be called fact. Each sensor brand and model, combined with different lenses is going to produce a slightly different ‘look’. If you mean a shallow dof, that’s pretty easy to replicate on other size sensors if you know what you’re doing. If you were shown 100 images on UA-cam I would wager that you couldn’t guess which were FF, APSC or MF, if they were taken in a way to make them look the same.
@@sammy_sam_leonardo The reason you have to modify or try and repeat a FF cameras look/characteristics is because a FF Camera has different assets and characteristics then an ACS-P camera. FF sensor will always offer a Wider view and putting a 14mm lens on a APS-C if thats your widest lens isn't going to be the same width, DOF or light transmission that comes from the wider FF sensor camera with the same focal length with the same F-stop on a 14mm lens (facts) as far as telling the difference, maybe blow Joe on the streets no but yes some experienced professional s people can tell the difference because there is one. Can you emulate the Look yes, maybe, no, but there's a look. Originally APS-C was considered FF but obviously the Film industry as a whole felt there's a difference as well. Thus a new size FF sensor has because the Norm for a reason. Have a good day Sam I have to go.
@@town3 yes there’s a difference between the field of view, compression and bokeh if you compare a like for like shot with the same focal length, aperture, distance from subject etc; but how often is that happening in reality beyond a geek test- and would someone be able to identify the sensor used if you were shown the photo on social media, not much more accurately than guessing imho. So, in my opinion a sensor size can’t have a specific ‘look’ that is really distinguishable- because the ‘look’ the image has will be not only specific to the sensor size but the lens, software in camera and post production and the environment the image was taken - the lens arguably having the most impact. Plus, as I said FF sensors from different manufacturers will render differently (mainly colour and resolution) and when paired with a different lens they will change character, bokeh and/or compression… so I just don’t see how that can be considered consistent sensor ’look’. Anyway, it really doesn’t matter much. It’s like the special colours argument all over again. Just shoot what your happy with.
Was looking for fuji apsc for many years. But finally upgraded from my a6000 to a6600. Main reason is AF. As I am going to start work as a photographer mainly wedding reliable AF is must have. Real time AF is a killer! I set eye AF as a back button and left Real time AF on shutter button. Concerning colours I understood that after editing there is now difference except you mark which brand or camera type was used. And most important is that client doesn't see colours of brands they want to see good photos). The only con is single card slot. Hope next year sony will come with dual card slot apsc. Lenses are primes. Sigma trio f 1.4 and viltrox 23 f1.4.
@@wl5609 don't think so. Apsc is not only about body size. Lenses size, weight and mainly price is most important. Just compare the lens setup price I have plus 2 a6600 with ff equivalent.
"Hope next year sony will come with dual card slot APS-C." I'm not so sure, since Sony treated their APS-C system as a "trial" version; Just like Canon and Nikon in the DSLR days. They might never give their APS-C cameras full "pro camera features." Sony wanted you to go Full Frame because that's where their biggest investment lies.

Hi Dan, great video. It’s uncanny, I’m in the exact same position as you! Love Fuji, but in my opinion the system doesn’t tick all boxes for professional work. I told myself too I will sell all my Fuji gear, can’t see it happening though, unless the Wife forces me to do so🤣
Thanks so much, Lee! Love to hear from people who are in the same boat and hey, Fuji is a bit more compact so much better for family adventures and everyday shooting when you're out and about with your wife. That's the angle you should use when she comes for your Fuji gear 😅
Keen to test out the X-H2s. Just posted a video about it and I've had several people saying the AF is close to Sony and Canon which is a game changer for Fuji, for sure.
As user of Fujifilm XF and GFX I tried Sony A7IV for about 4 weeks and returned back. The image quality in low light is marginally better then the latest Fujifilm XF sensors. As far as AF concern this one is better for video then Fujifilm. If you don't tweak the Fujifilm settings and when using "wrong" lenses you will end up with known AF problems when recording.Image quality and what you call "Full frame look" ,color and dynamic range is sub pair compared to GFX. In my case it was not worth investment especially knowing that Sony A7IV is entry level camera.
I always wanted a Sony.... I watched reviews for months and heard a lot of people talk about how the XT4 is amazing. I got the XT4 and I haven't even used it yet but I'm already regretting it because I want the a7IV now.... did I make a mistake should I also sell back right away and go for the Sony for extra $?
Hey mate, the X-T4 has been a great companion for me so it really depends on what you'll be using it for. Because of the slower autofocus I'd say it's less ideal for run and gun filming. It sounds like you're in a similar position that I was in so I think it's all about figuring out the right timing for the upgrade as the Sony system will drain your wallet 💸
Your right on track with what you saying. I too was all Fuji shooter, xt-3, xt30, and most of there lenses, I had came from Canon and loved fuji's system as good as it was and light years ahead of canon my last was the 5dmkiv it had trouble in focus tracking stills were absolutley killer but the tracking left a bad taste in my mouth. I sold it all and waited to see whom was gonna jump ahead, the canon r5 seemed like the right move untill i started hearing about the sony a7iv, i pre ordered it and recieved it in Jan 3rd or close to it. I went with Tamrons lenses the 28-75f2.8 G2, the 150-500, and used sony 70-200f4 and used 85-1.8 and a tamron 20 1.8, No need to tell you about the focus system, and the tracking so much better and flippy screen, and all the other improvements. yeah im a happy camper.... the a7iv just feels good in the hands, the menu system so much better than the previous sony's, I would go as far as to say my zv-1 is what what made me wait to see what the a7iv would do, the zv-1 is incredible for a point and shoot, its focus system is close to the a7iv's. in a bite sized format...
I had several cameras with crop matrices. When I bought the Sony A7 IV and compared the quality of photos and videos on my 32-inch 4K professional monitor, I was delighted with the quality of the full-frame camera. I do not need any chips, for me the main thing is the quality of the picture. The FF sensor is 2.34 times larger than the APS-C camera sensor, and that's a lot. Physics cannot be canceled and the picture quality of cameras of about the same generation depends heavily on the size of their matrices in the first place.
Disclaimer: I didn't sell ALL my Fujifilm gear 😇
I did.
I have been considering making the move but I will wait until XH2 arrival than I will know which direction to take.
Congratulation!!
Interesting! I'm very much considering switching to Fuji or Cannon from an A7III
@@supertal3 Get a small fuji on the side, like an X E4, but don't get rid of the a7iii, enjoy best of both worlds
And i am sure u will be more then happy fuji experience is amazing
Sony for pro work, fuji for fun for me. And in Lightroom my x100v files play nicely, no worms or anything
Couldn't agree more about the a7r IV. That's what I currently shoot, and just put it up for sale to switch to Fuji!
First thing I did was get rid of Lightroom and buy capture one! Made a huge difference. 🥳
I love the size of my XT4, although there’s a compromise in buying the new lenses as they have linear motors- they’re larger!
We are spoiled for choice.
how has the x-h2s been? im so close to ordering one!
Can someone tell me why is it we are not comparing full fame camera to other full fame camera's to be fair?
@@terryjohnson5747 id say because the difference between “full-frame” and “crop-sensor” are becoming less obvious. Yes, there are some noticeable differences between DOF and ISO performance when comparing images side by side, but not by a huge amount. Fuji is doing an amazing job at keeping up with its competitors and even doing better in some areas with the fully capable APSC sensors.
I been using Sony and Fuji for the last 4 years. Just upgraded to the A7IV but also kept my X-T4. Both cameras offer a different feel to the files.
If you were to only choose ONE between A7IV vs X-T4, which would you choose?
Hi there,
I’m my opinion there aren’t right or wrong…
Take the one you enjoy most shooting…
I had xt4 but was never happy with the picture quality especially in low light compared with my Nikon Z line up that I use professionally… got the Nikon zfc to replace my Fujifilm xt4 for my casual free time shooting and very happy now …
Thanks Dan for this nice video.I have a Sony a1 and a7R5 for mainly wildlife .I have been a fuji shooter for all the other items (street , family)I am not biased to one or the other.I must admit that sony has the edge if talking AF peformance , this is another world really!
I just bought mine not even unpacked yet and watching your video .. 😄
Want to swap for fujifilm set up for a Sony a7ii plus battery grip 50mm 1.8 and 85 1.8 Ziess
Thanks so much, Johannes. That's exactly what I did, someone told me to try VLC and that's now my default player to preview the Sony files 🙌
For the file preview, you just have to relaunch your Finder and it will reset back to the use of space bar!
That’s one of the reasons a binned my Adobe subscription. They don’t innovate or bother to fix issues.
Some say it's goo to have the x100v and an a7s3/a7iV one for photo and one for video - is that redundant? Considering using a7s3 for both photo/video and selling x100v - can the Sony be stealthy enough with a small lens?
Hi, I'm looking to make the change from Fuji to Sony too. Please can you describe what you mean by the 'full frame look'. Thanks
Nikon all the way for speed, Hasselblad for image quality . Truthfully keeping the value is a plus ! Thanks for sharing
Funny. Sold my a7s3 for an xt4 but the autofocus is making me consider going back. My problem is I shoot SOOC and won’t color grade and love the Fuji recipes and emulations. Can you get similar looks on Sony Straight out of camera without the need to color grade ?
Hi , there is one guy on UA-cam who started doing film recipes for Sony :) there is a lot of control in Sony cameras .
What a lineup you have there. 2 A7iv and an A7siii, that‘s impressive and must have burnt a hole in your wallet 😅 Love it
I tried switching from Fuji to Canon this year.
Hi. Which camera has a better sharpness? Which camera have you used to record this video?
What didn't you like about A1?
Such a helpful video. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!!
Thanks, Sara. Glad you found it helpful 🙌
Hey Dan! Have you tried previewing your clips in Adobe Bridge or are you not using Adobe suite at all?
Hey Justin, thanks for the tips. Bridge is currently not part of my workflow, always found it a bit redundant but maybe this is a use case where it would make sense. 👍
@@DanJacobs I understand that totally. It’s also nice if wanting to play with photos in Camera Raw, which is redundant to Lightroom but on a lighter scale haha.
Great video, Dan-I love your channel!
Thanks so much. Makes me so happy to read this!
Get tamron 35 150 f2 to f2.8
I would say that’s something not talked about! I had the same thing with Fuji…. Simply the way it is set up with its own dials really helped me fully grasp the exposure triangle even after years previously with canon :) . Great video Ty
Just did the same yesterday: X-T3 -> A7iV
Breaks my heart to leave the Fuji System, because I loved the Diales.
Great video Dan. Super interesting to hear about the Fuji to Sony switch.
Thanks, Nick! Looks like both of us have been converted to Sony users recently :)
Isn't the "worminess" in the raw files because of the fuji x-trans sensor? I thought that was why they push Capture One for the fuji owners...
What about the colors vs. Fuji?
Thanks so much! That would be so annoying that you can‘t even preview the files in VLC. Hope something can be done about that at some stage.
Oh wow, thank you. I gotta try this 👍
I'm in the same place right now, thinking about switching from Fuji xt3 to sony a7iv. But iam mainly prime shooter, having best fuji f1.4 lenses. And changing for Sony i will only affort 24-70 GM II wich has f2.8. It is tough decision. 🤔
I switched from fujifilm xe4 to a7iv a few weeks ago. The auto focus of fujifilm is my major issue.
If you want to simplify your kit and don't mind used, the selling price of a used X-T4 = the used price of a Sony A7c. Would make a great B cam/backup on the same lens and battery platform. You will of course miss out on the video bit depth and 4k 60 so maybe a deal breaker for you?
Very good thinking, thank you mate. I'll definitely look into it!
For the preview options just set VLC Player or another player as your default to allow you to quickly preview them.
I made the upgrade to a7iv and am loving it!
What did you upgrade form?
I want a nikon z6 ideally. Will even sell my XT2 when that day comes
I preview Sony footage on my M1 Macbook Pro and Mac Studio without any issue just tap spacebar and done. If you are on an Intel mac that may be the issue
I am a Sony apsc shooter, and I am actually considering the Fujifilm system. I can’t stand the Sony colors.
Same, wasn’t impressed at all.
I was you, 4 years ago.
Same as u , but I’m go to sony full frame its better, and try buying prime lens its good
I am glad that I am not the only one complaining about the Sony apsc color, is their FF got better color science? Maybe A7IV ?
Depends on which apsc you have each model has different color science
And you can cook eggs on the heat of the A7iv
Xt4 is 420. 422 on external recorder.
Many people seem to be really annoyed that the a74 4k 60 is crop. That doesn't bother you? Cause you're gonna certainly lose that full frame look you're talking about.
Great video Dan, I just discovered your channel + 1 sub 😃
Thanks so much, I appreciate it! 🙌
@@Size10Soles the a7iv FL creative look is very close to classic chrome
@@DanJacobs I was looking at that one too. That is a pricey one! I am subscribed and hope to see some more content down the line :)
So I see everybody talking about the Fuji color signs and I just wantna know what is actually that means, What do they mean about organic
@@armandoferreira1346 I do not use the word organic, however the skin has a healthy orange glow. The Sony makes the same skin Brown.

Canada to Mexico, that‘s exciting. Would love to check out the video when they are live! 🙌
just my opinion but to avoid color matching and try to keep the same ecosystem within one brand, why not sell xt-4 + lens for sony a6400, 6600, or even zv-10?
I mean it is still a great camera the XT3 but maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to buy some new stuff or switch it up a little.
VS X-H2? 😁
Tried the Sony; but … i dont know… Image quality is great but i just like to take photos with my old fuji camera much more.
Mr. Fiennes I really enjoyed your performance in the Schindler's List
If I could afford it, I would switch to Sony as well, it was interesting to see your take on this. Subbed as well.
Thanks so much, Adrian! Appeciate it. 🙌

Why not buy the Tamron lens? Almost the same quality for far less money.
@@DanJacobs I've heard the same. I use the Tamron 17-28 f2.8 for UA-cam and the Tamron 28-75 for general purpose use.

I don’t believe that there is such a thing as the ‘full frame look’. But, good luck with your new gear… hope you’re happy with it. 👍🏼
Thats like saying I don't believe in facts 😂🤣🤣 😳
FF sensor will always offer a Wider view and putting a 14mm lens on a APS-C if thats your widest lens isn't going to be the same width, DOF or light transmission that comes from the wider FF sensor camera with the same focal length with the same F-stop on a 14mm lens (facts) as far as telling the difference, maybe blow Joe on the streets no but yes some experienced professional
s people can tell the difference because there is one.
@@sammy_sam_leonardo Nice talking with you :) All good Sam. Hope you have a great week.
I wonder if these newer Full frame Sony cameras will hinder the APS-C cameras due to the amazingly compact design?..
@@wl5609 don't think so. Apsc is not only about body size. Lenses size, weight and mainly price is most important. Just compare the lens setup price I have plus 2 a6600 with ff equivalent.
Totally agree, using Fuji for a wedding would make me slightly incomfortable because of the AF but I know people do use it and it works for them. 🙌
@@Garbid Thanks, makes sense..

I'm not so sure, since Sony treated their APS-C system as a "trial" version; Just like Canon and Nikon in the DSLR days. They might never give their APS-C cameras full "pro camera features." Sony wanted you to go Full Frame because that's where their biggest investment lies.
Why didn’t you go over to Canon?
Hi Dan, great video. It’s uncanny, I’m in the exact same position as you! Love Fuji, but in my opinion the system doesn’t tick all boxes for professional work. I told myself too I will sell all my Fuji gear, can’t see it happening though, unless the Wife forces me to do so🤣
Thanks so much, Lee! Love to hear from people who are in the same boat and hey, Fuji is a bit more compact so much better for family adventures and everyday shooting when you're out and about with your wife. That's the angle you should use when she comes for your Fuji gear 😅
The Fuji X-H2s AF will closely equal the Sony's. (Or Canon's and Nikon's).
Keen to test out the X-H2s. Just posted a video about it and I've had several people saying the AF is close to Sony and Canon which is a game changer for Fuji, for sure.
I just sold my Xt4 and purchased Canon r5. Happy camper so far😀
there is no better camera than XH2S, period!
Yeah that makes sense. Never used the GFX, would love to though one day 😌
@@DanJacobs You should try, it is not for sport or anything what is moving rapidly but lanscape, product photography and portrait.
I am always open to use Sony, but I'll never give up my Fujifilm gear... cheers to your upgrade path!
Does any of you take photos or you all only watch UA-cam videos, buy and sell gear? Regretting buying a camera that hasn’t been used at all? Jeez…
Use it, you will see. I love my xt4, lots of people do
Your right on track with what you saying.
