Okyuji = "Serving". That's what the Maids call their concerts because, well, they are Maids!
This was the second of the "Smile" trilogy - love letters to their fans.
First was "Smile" about their view from the stage watching the fans smile "I have a special view"
Second was "About Us" about the band and fans being apart during covid. A modern take on "We will meet again"
Third was "Memorable" about the band feeling loved by their fans. Written on the tour bus while actually touring the US.

🐦 In a concert held on Feb. 14th, 2020 *BAND-MAID* announced that they were going to play at *Budokan* on Feb 11th, 2021 but due to Covid the concert was canceled. In the live streaming concert *Saiki* address the fans and said how much *BAND-MAID* missed performing live to their *Masters and Princesses* and was followed up with this song that *BAND-MAID* has _maid_ for their fans. 🐦
In the beginning there was a small pigeon 🐦 who met a guitarist 🎸 who played with a drummer 🥁 who went to school with the bassist 🎸 and then tricked the singer 🎤 to join the band then the small pigeon 🐦 asks the guitarist 🎸 please teach me how to play the guitar 🎸.

CRG an "Okyuji" means a BAND-MAID "Serving" or concert, just cos you asked me nicely. The song is a love letter to the Maidiacs describing how much B-M miss not being able to play live for us with an audience :)

    About "About Us"
    NiijimaD7
    10 months ago (edited)
Just before playing this song Saiki gave a heartfelt speech to the fans. Here is what she said:
“We were supposed to meet you today. For the first time in a year, we thought we could meet you all, those of you who could come to see us, but we can’t meet you in the end. I’m sorry. Even though it’s not my fault.
We have been having days of turmoil for about a year. In the beginning, we were very surprised because we hadn’t experienced it before, and we had no experience of not being able to meet others in person. We were sad, but we found we shouldn’t be sad in this situation. When I saw you masters and princesses on social media, you were more depressed than us, and we thought that’s terrible.
We Band-Maid have been thinking about how to cheer up all of you in the last one year. We truly wanted to meet you at Nippon Budokan, but it’s impossible because of COVID, so let’s wait for the day when we can meet.
And in the last one year… or in the COVID pandemic, we have become more eager to cheer you up, and we Band-Maid realized again it’s important to give our songs to you.
That’s why we wrote this song for Budokan.
We made the album also in the pandemic, so it might have a little similar feel, but this song is planned for Nippon Budokan, and we really want to give it to you masters and princesses now.
Budokan is not our goal but just a stepping stone. We will perform at bigger venues, and we promise we will bring you there and give you even better songs, so let’s keep it up a little more.
This is our present for you masters and princesses. Please listen to it.”

BAND-MAID's love letter to their fans. They had to cancel their Budokan gig due to Covid. They had that wonderful opportunity stolen from them...but, someday, they won't just play Budokan, but every major venue in Japan.

Unless you watched this live during one of the worse times in world history when governments tested their control over us (Covid-19 Lockdowns) and watched Band-Maid throw the middle finger to all of that by never stopping and moving forward attitude and performing for their Masters and Princesses. This song has a very special place in my heart for that time and for this band. It's just nice to be told I love you......and they do.

"About Us", in the vein of other great mid-tempo Band-Maid songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage, At the Drop of a Hat and Smile, is an amazing song and personal message to their fans - a direction I'm glad to see them add to their journey toward world domination. And we get to hear MISA play the vibe she so enjoys. Their beautiful DVD/BD/CD set with 100 page picture book of this incredible concert is unbelievable! Thanks Kazz, for bringing "About Us" to your viewers!

This a “low energy” song because of the subject matter. It is a love song for the fans in the pandemic, really needed this at the time. Btw they have fans all around the world, not just in US. I am hoping they will give us the pleasure of seeing them in a tour of Europe.

There is a reason I split this into two comments. If I posted both files together, YT's algorithm would block it. So this was from an on-line concert the Ladies did, to replace their canceled 2-11-2021 concert/Okyuji at Budokan. Now for the info file that discusses a bit about not just this song, but Smile and Memorable.
This is part of what I call the "Smile" trilogy. The first song being Smile, the "B-side" to their song Bubble. The music was written by Kentaro Akutsu who wrote their breakout song "Thrill" but with lyrics by Miku. The second song is "About US" a love song to their fans during the lockdowns written by the Ladies themselves. When it was performed live for the first time during their on-line concert to replace their canceled Budokan concert, Saiki gave a brief speech before the song started, that had many of us getting attacked by dust. Then the song itself brought out the onion ninjas and made many us have allergy attacks as well.
Then we have "Memorable". It was almost 3 years since the Ladies had last toured the US, and they were concerned they had lost their momentum. Even though being told they were selling out their shows, they didn't believe what they were being told, they thought their management was lying to them or playing a joke on them. They came over and performed at Aftershock, then they got on their tour bus, (A first for them, as they normally would either fly or rent a couple vans to tour in) and drove to their first show of their 2022 US Tour. Seattle.
It was at Seattle, that the Ladies got confirmation of just how much their fans love them and how much we missed them. As they walked out on stage, according to several people who were at the show, they were shocked. And Saiki as she came out, was said to have looked like someone had hit her with a bat, her eyes were so wide. The crowd response, and the emotions coming off them fed the Ladies energy as the performed their show. And as they went to their next concert, the response there was the same. And the next show, with the fans sending gifts for MISA's birthday, having several hundred custom printed towels handed out to the audience celebrating MISA's birthday. All these things hit the Ladies in their hearts.
And Kanami had an idea for a new song.
This next part is hearsay so I have no way of confirming it, but the sounds at the beginning before the guitar part starts was the sound that Kanami heard while back stage at the Los Angeles show. Hearing music and the audience talking. Supposedly, she actually recorded it on her phone before their introduction music started playing. Again that is hearsay and I have no way to confirm it.
But from the L.A. show Kanami started writing the vocal melody line. If you have a chance to watch the Behind the scenes documentary from their TGT Concert DVD-BD, Kanami discusses and sings the vocal melody. She later sang and played it to Saiki and Saiki told Kanami to finish the song, then Saiki and Miku wrote the lyrics together.
The lyrics are about looking out into the audience while being up on stage, and seeing the smiles of their "Masters and Princesses" And how much that means to them, the Ladies of Band-Maid, and how much they love us as their fans, and how much they feel our love of them as performers.
The Ladies finished the song after they returned home to Japan, and worked it up, and performed it live for the first time at their January 9th concert at the Tokyo Gardens Theater, which was later released as a DVD/BD with the BTS Documentary. But just a month after their concert at TGT, they were back in the US as the opening band for the "Last Rock Stars" a Japanese supergroup, for 3 shows. Two in New York and one in Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles, the outside desert portion of this video were recorded, just outside of Lancaster California, the performance portions were taken from the very first live performance at the TGT.
So know you know the story behind the song. It is a love song from the Ladies of the band, to their fans, telling us how we lift them up, and how they love being able to perform for us.
As I wrote at the very beginning, this is the 3 song of the trilogy, and all of them are about how much the Ladies love us their fans. And for that, we love them back.
I realize there is a lot of info about Memorable, but it should be another song you react to, as well as Smile, even though there is no current MV for it, there are a few live videos out there if you search for them. One is a semi-acoustic, one is a full acoustic, then there is a regular full electric version.
And the biggest issue with the Ladies lack of followers in the US is simple. Very few if any radio stations play them on a regular basis. I and others are trying to change that by constantly calling the request lines and requesting songs, but so far I at least have no returns.

I don't know the current situation, but when I discovered Band-Maid about 4 years ago, Miku said that about 40% of their YT channel subscribers were from overseas. Japan had the largest number of subscribers, and the US was the 2nd largest if I remember correctly.
Sadly, Band-Maid is still relatively unknown in Japan😥

Don’t let anything stop you from seeing the Maids live. It’s more than a concert. It’s an event. An experience. Family friendly, too!
Besides getting a one-off, unique setlist (they never play the same show twice), Miku’s “Magic Spell Time” gets everyone chanting, cheering, and part of the fun. Then Saiki and Kanami will interact with the audience, asking questions, teaching a Japanese word, and just being adorable.
As far as popularity goes, Band Maid is definitely more popular in the USA than their home country. Japanese metal and rock is extremely competitive, so they’re described as “little fish in a big pond” in Japan. And still they put 15,000 into Yokohama Arena.
The US shows were all sold out. Every venue. Both of their last two tours. They also did three rock festivals in 2023.
Band Maid’s shows in Mexico were sold out both times they went. Wonder how popular they are there? For fun, check out the fan cams from their Mexico City performance. Absolutely bonkers.
Another world tour should be announced this year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them head back to Europe as well as the US. From what I can gather, despite being able to sell out larger venues, the Maids still enjoy doing smaller clubs for the intimacy. (Side note: this is also a reason Akane doesn’t want a giant drum kit. She wants to feel closer to the other Maids and the fans)
In conclusion, do whatever you have to do to see them live. And try to see them in the smallest venue possible. I saw them in a 700 seat club. Unforgettable.
