I’ve only had one do it in 19 years of chasing them. He also had a crazy gobble I’ve never heard before also and 5 bearded. It was late season in river bottom where the grass and weeds were 2-3’ tall.

Yeah. Wife and I had a bird once that continually hopped tree to tree looking for the hen(us). Now I won't shoot a roost bird morning or night, but if he starts limb hopping like that then he's not playing right. We took that gene out of the pool that morning. 2 hours after dawn. Perfectly legal to shoot a bird from a tree in WA. And how he was hopping just as this one was. Game on!

My First Bird did the same exact thing, flew to the tree I was under. He heard a hen and flew off. Second day I say heck I’m getting aggressive today. So I crossed a thigh deep bottom to get closer to him. I rounded a tree and there he was, maybe 30 yards from me sitting on a low limb of a tree. He just looked at me for a long minute. I don’t shoot Birds on the Roost. So I made a noise and he flew off. It was allot of fun though, but ain’t they all! That’s why we do what we do…

Shane it's time you and Moonshine Tyler part ways. This is your channel if he knows so much let him start his own. I've always set my ass still if a turkey gobbled at me. I was taught if he answers you on the roost he want forgot where you are and he will show up eventually. I watched Michael Wadell call a turkey for a lady one morning that never touched the ground. He flew from tree to tree. Michael told the lady shoot him and she did. That was a great hunt.

    • @Wookie1122

They won’t always come in , sometimes you gotta run and go to kill them steep mnt birds , there’s a time and place for it . They done the right thing running and gunning but they got in to much of a hurry and got to close to a bird knowing they was a chance he could here them walking but choose to keep cutting the distance , they got to close and the bird was coming to them walking and busted them

Coming way too close to a roosted gobbler. No blind, no decoys and very open terrain. Then, calling to a bird that can see to the exact spot you are calling from. This points out all the ways a super aggressive approach can fail miserably. On top of that, you educated this bird and that will make him much harder to call in. I have watched plenty of videos where you take a much more cautious approach and use patience to kill a bird. Not sure why you switched tactics and got so aggressive. Two guys and a camera make it VERY hard to get away with an aggressive approach like this, especially in such open terrain with a bird in a tree after it gets light. What a shame. This bird was very hot and probably could have been killed with a more patient approach. Too bad for you and your friend.
