Well a TON of folks actually do both. There is nothing WRONG with folks seeking better tools. Plus nobody knows how much better a given piece of gear can make one concerning photography until they actually have that New Gear to Try. Ytube is full of far too many folks thinking they know what others are about.
@natureredux1957 So many things wrong with this statement, but I'll bite. A "TON" is exaggeration at best. Most people who seriously do photography and/ or make a living at this are not sitting in UA-cam complaining about frame rates, etc. They're not sitting in UA-cam talking about holding out for the latest tech. This is because they know the gear is secondary. They're using what they have and creating stunning work. Unless you're shooting the Olympics or professional sports, for example, how many more frames per second do you need? How much more dynamic range do you need? I could do on. But really, don't confuse "want" with "need." That's why we have a world filled with debt and people struggling. These cameras have more than what 90% of the population actually "needs." That's not what's going on here. It's just people who want the latest tech so they can be able to say they have the latest tech. And that's exactly why the manufacturers keep trying to up the ante. It's not that it's what people need... they know it's what people want. There are plenty of photographers who are well paid taking images with a D850. I know a wedding photographer who is making six figures with two D750's. Don't talk to me about need because that's not what all the online complaining is about.
I love what you’re saying about the value that Z8 brings to the table. I believe that there are people out there who like me need a low light performer around 2k. Z8 offers improved auto focus but the sensor resolution is too high for the best lowlight performance. I bought my Z8 because I sell wall portraits. I have a pair of Z6ii I use for edc, travel, events, weddings and live stage performances. I hope Nikon make the Z6iii to be a lowlight beast. If they don’t I will tolerate the pair of Z6ii’s I have. Although the Z8 is a good value, I think ZF is a better alternative for the Z6ii user that wants a modern feature upgrade. The retro-styling is just a bonus in my humble opinion.
@@FramesTM True. Cant understand the lack of grip. But I was using it with the smallrig grip and I had the 135mm Plena attached. After a while I realized I was carrying the camera just with the 2-3 finger only grip on the body and I was surprised it was so easy to carry with that `so called' too big a lens for the ZF. Still I don't use any super zooms.
I just purchased the Zf. I don't expect the Z6III to be on the shelves until at least late summer. I am very impressed with the beautiful 24 megapixel jpegs from the camera with its Expeed 7 processor. I loved my Z6II, but I sold it.I needed a 24 megapixel camera with the new processor. I simply don't need the 45 megapixel Z8 and Z9 half of the time. I ordered the Small Rig battery grip when I got home from the camera store. Both the Zf and the new 28-400mm lens are selling like hotcakes. Having this combo for travel is obviously on many Nikon shooters' minds.
Interesting video. I have my Z6ii what is it missing? 1. Expeed 7 autofocus. 2. Better flash sync speeds. 1/400 or high would be nice for portraits and wedding photography! 3. A bump to 30ish MP for 6K video opengate shooting. 4. One more customizable function button. 5. (Dream feature) Shutterless like my Z8 Canon has 30-33 megapixel cameras in EOS mount. Nikon had a 36mp Dslr. I hope the Z6iii is a 30-33mp camera. I would be disappointed if the Z6iii is only 24 mp. Hopefully the sensor is faster than the ZF or higher MP count.
I was waiting over a year for a z63. I wanted the z63 to be like a smaller z8. Zero blackout, and super fast low light beast. my z61 lcd stopped working(had it for 4 years) so I had to get a new camera. a z62 wasn't worth it. and a Zf is awesome, but the ergonomics isn't good for weddings, etc. And the lack of CF express cards isn't for me. That's more of a hobby camera. I ended up getting a z8 and LOVE it. my z6 will be my back up. If a z63 came out before My purchase, I would have gotten a z63. But I love the features in the z8, so no regrets at all!!
I am running out of patience for the Z6III. I could really use this camera, especially if it has a 33 megapixel sensor, but I can't wait forever. This would make a great general purpose backup camera for me. If this goes on much longer, I may just pick up the Zf, which looks like a fun camera.
I have a Z6ii and I really want a Z6iii because I think it will have the Z8 auto focus system. But can I really afford it. I am now retired so money is a great consideration.
I think they should make a Z6X or Pro type camera that has the Z8 body but is at 6k resolution. Honestly I’m not excited about the z6 body but I am excited about 6k 60fps and the same video focused features that the Z8 got.
Waiting for a z6iii, i think as many users, i dont´find the mark ii to worth the update, but now it makes sense to update if the product bring all the features we need. I´m on the spot that i want to upgrade from my beloved Z6 but can´t spend ( and don´t need ) for aquire a Z8.
I was going to get the Zf after selling my Z6II as the backup to my Z8, but I decided to wait on the Z6III for the better ergonomics. I picked up a Zfc for my street photography for the time being. I just need a great low light addition to my Z8 (which is great, but Z6II and Zf like performance would be better). The Zfc has impressed me for what it is, minus the low light APSC disadvantage. Hoping around $2500 for the Z6III and amazing AF.
@jamesjackson4264 I'm loving it for what it is. I shot Fuji for 2 years (XH2s, XH2 and XT5) and the IQ coming out of the Zfc is on par during daylight hours. Colors are fantastic. It lacks a few features but for the price it's a no brainer. The 24 1.7 is tack sharp. Perfect street combo for me.
Great video, thanks. I've been waiting for some official word about the Z6 iii for a little while as well. Saw a rumour tonight that there may be an anouncement Nikon Professional Services Roadshow 2024 at end of May/June. So fingers crossed for that. I have been going back and forward on whether to just get a Z6 ii with the price discount, or go for the Lumix S5 ii or Fujifilm XT-5 as they would save me money as well, potentially for another lense or lenses. Z8 is just too expensive for me, so will hold out for an official announcement from Nikon soon on the Z6 iii, but if nothing is said soon, then I'll probably opt for the Lumix/XT-5.
I think Nikon should have refreshed the Z6 sooner however they forced a lot of mid range users like myself to throw in the towel and buy a Z8 or Z9. I am really close to giving up and re-purchasing a Z50. I miss that little camera.
I can wait, have been waiting since the EXpeed 7 on the Z9 came out. Waiting for a processor that can provide the horsepower necessary to make a mirrorless camera perform without limitations on features and performance. I own a D7500 & a Z50 (for it’s form factor), plus 12 lenses. Never felt that the Z6ii, or shall I say the Z6 i.5 was worth moving up to despite having IBIS. The Z9, way too heavy &$!, the Z8 was better but still too big. The Zf, a fantastic camera but retro was not for me. The Z6iii is my “Goldilocks” camera. Maybe Nikon is manufacturing an inventory of Z6iii to meet the demand. Nikon does not want a repeat of a long wait of a year or more after announcing the Z6iii, nor issues like the lug nuts on the Z8.
If you like your Z50, Buy a used Z6ii and try it. I has better low light than the Z50, better battery. Yes the Z8 is not much bigger than your D7500. Not really a noticable difference. I still have my D500 which is about the same size as the Z8. I think if you were blind folded and someone handed you a D7500 and a Z8 You would not be able to tell the difference by weight.
I'm sure the Z6iii is imminent now. My Z6, which I love (and certainly find just as well made as the Z8) is my travel/street/low light camera while my Z8 is my everything else camera. My Z6 will turn 5 next year so I may replace it then with the new model if there's a good deal to be had at the photography show.
Currently I use D500 for bird photography. Also heard that Z90 may be launched, which should be next gen of D500. So I am waiting for either Z6iii or the Z90, whichever suits me better in terms of price and features. Thanks for this video.
I think a used z8 if you don’t mind used will be that sweet spot. I am a z9 guy but a big camera is not for everybody. That z8 is in a very well priced zone.
When I migrated from the F-mount D camera to the Z camera, I also said goodbye to digital cameras with an OLPF. In the case of Nikon, at full frame, this meant 45MP. In this light, the Z 6iii is not interesting to me. Also not as a backup. Recently having migrated from the Z 7ii to the Z 8, the improvement caused by the EXPEED 7 and much better firmware is huge. But if you will benefit from that depends on your photographic use cases. I would use another Z 8 as backup camera, when I need one. For several kinds of photography, I would recommend a Z 7(ii), to people who cannot afford the Z 8 or don't need one. The quality of the images will be equally good. Note that a Z 7(ii) is a few mm smaller in its gross dimensions than a D500 APS-C camera. Imagine running the Z 7(ii) in APS-C mode and you have your Z500 - I feel that Nikon's firmware should be able to run many things at higher speeds in this case, because there are many less data in the APS-C frame. But the firmware may be coded in an inflexible way around "real time" and that would mean they have to code from the ground up again. Note that e.g. the above mentioned D500 does not have an OLPF. Between the Z f and the Z 8, the positioning of a Z 7iii is not very easy, and this applies to a Z 6iii a well. In both cases, I would expect a similar sensor, new motherboards with EXPEED 7, still the same CFexpress Type B combined with SD-UHS-II, and some functional improvements in the firmware between the Z f and Z 8. These Mk iii Z 6/7 cameras could move into Z 8 territory, but in that case, Nikon will have to come up with a Mk ii version of Z 8 and Z 9. As a Z 8 user, I would want 2x CFexpress Type B. SD-UHS-II is too flimsy, slow, expensive. Bottom line, it's a positioning problem. The acquisition of Red will probably impact the future development of a Mk ii Z 8 and Z 9, potentially the sensor. In that case, a Z 7iii and Z 6iii can shift into current Z 8 territory, but in a smaller, lighter, cheaper package (than Z 8). It's like the laundry-detergent manufacturers that have an A brand, a B, and a C. When they "innovate" A into a new version A2 and advertise this to the world, then shortly thereafter they release the improved version of B in B2 (which is the old A) and then some time after that the innovated C2 becomes a repackaged old B. In the case of Nikon, we have seen firmware differences in the Z 8 relative to the Z 9 and this suggests that two different teams have been working on each. That''s not efficient, unless you use internal (separated with Chinese Walls) competition as a model to get better results. With all the firmware updates, it also seems they work in an "Agile" (development methodology) way where the first release is an "MVP" (Minimum Viable Product) that then is the start of incremental improvements and bug fixes. The thumbnail picture advertising this video displays the Z 8 - my guess - about 7.5% too large relative to the Z 6/7/6ii/7ii in front of it - if we ignore it being behind the smaller cameras, so farther away and should be depicted even smaller.
Must have for the Z6iii- 1) A fast readout 24MP sensor to match R6ii or a slow High MP 33MP sensor to match the A7iv. I prefer the 24MP. Must be atleast 10fps with live view instead of 6fps on Sony A7iv. Stacked sensor must be avoided & instead they should focus on reducing the price below R6ii & A7iv or atleast same. Pricing must be aggressive. 2) The Bird Eye AF is a must for upcoming all Nikon cameras unlike the ZF (it was a big letdown). Just look at Canon R7/R8/ Sony A6700/ Sony A7iv all budget cameras have the best autofocus available at the time of release. The ZF didn't have the best autofocus features Nikon had available at time of release. They ditched the Bird Eye Af. 3) 4K/120 maybe cropped & 4K60p uncropped, not bothered about 8K currently or next 3-4yrs atleast for this range of cameras. 8K sounds nice on paper rather than sounding practical. 4) Light body like Z6ii with good VR 5) And Maybe a new battery similar to the Sony FZ100.
The Z8 at $3500 has made the Z6III (and Z7III) a lot less relevant in this shrinking high end camera market. In order to put in all the big boy features we would want in a Z6III, the body will have to be bigger than the Z6II. The price will also have to be higher than $2000. So, are you willing to buy a Z6III with less MP FX that is the same or nearly the same weight/size as the Z8 while costing only a little less? IMHO, being the cost of the Z8 has dropped so much, Nikon should instead focus on the Z500. A Z8-ish camera with less MP and DX.
I know what you are saying. But for many people an extra $1,000 is a big deal breaker. I'd love to have a Z8, but as I am retired it is out of the question money wise. I have a Z6ii and all I really want is a full frame camera with the Z8 auto focus Maybe a Z5ii
I personally believe a used z8 will be real close to a new z6iii when it drops. $3000 versus $2500. Gonna make it hard on a lot of people. Plus the wait as stated.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it is interesting discussion. I left Nikon when the poorly made Z6 came out and went for my main camera down the Fuji route.. still happy, but I could imagine going back to Nikon, if the Z6 III inherits the Z8 autofocus and speed. (Fujifilm does not get it really w autofocus :) More than 24 mp for a Z6 III would be nice, but not a must I‘d say.. the Z8 looks andsounds appealing, but hey.. the price is really a different league than the Z6 II or III.. at least for me the Z8 is not affordable even with 500 euros discount 😀
I didn’t buy the z8 because I sold my D850 ,fantastic as it was for the weight. The z6 iii is taking forever & I couldn’t resist the Zf any longer. I expect the Z6 iii specification rumours to be more or less true & still hope for a z7iii . That is to say some new features & agree differentiation to z8 etc. I don’t expect 33mp from the Sony ,unless Nikon gets another one from somewhere else, I also don’t see Canon opting for such resolution, so I feel there will be reduced pressure for such a sensor. I won’t complain if they do go 33mp.
I will prefer the low light sensitivity of 24 MP over more crop in a 33 MP any day. If the Z6iii is like my Zf, but without the damned flippy screen that may be enough for me to give up the retro styling and switch.
Everyone is talking about how Much better one autofocus system is than another. Meanwhile I'm using a Canon 7D haha. Honestly the autofocus is so much better on all these cameras that I'm just picking one based on how much I enjoy editing the Raw files since that's where I spend most of my time.
Nikon basically has had two lines of cameras, high megapixels or high lowlight performance. Nikon should keep it that way. Increasing to 30-33 mp compromises a Z6iii’s low light capability. Further to this, I anticipate that Nikon will strive to have a Z6iii sensor read out to approach 10ms or less! More mp prevents that. It won’t be a stacked sensor that can do 4ms, thus we will still have a mechanical shutter. The long and short of it is, expect the Z6iii to be a Zf on steroids with a Z8 like body and improved EVF.
Putting a new video everyday on Z6 III just does not make any sence. You are just doing a guess work by juggling the specs of the Nikon old cameras. Infact the long guess work videos are too boring
I think it will not be released until 2025, because Nikon has no new sensor or processor at this point. To be honest, there is no more you can do with Nikon’s sensors and expeed7.

The thumbnail picture advertising this video displays the Z 8 - my guess - about 7.5% too large relative to the Z 6/7/6ii/7ii in front of it - if we ignore it being behind the smaller cameras, so farther away and should be depicted even smaller.
Haha yes that’s a Z8 in the background
I'm in no rush, so seeing that it's imminent, I'll can wait a bit longer. Z8 is too expensive. Zf is nice, but I'll see what the Z6III brings.
Must have for the Z6iii-
1) A fast readout 24MP sensor to match R6ii or a slow High MP 33MP sensor to match the A7iv.
4) Light body like Z6ii with good VR
5) And Maybe a new battery similar to the Sony FZ100.
I just wrote this. The price narrows even more if you get a used z8.
I know what you are saying.
But for many people an extra $1,000 is a big deal breaker.
I'd love to have a Z8, but as I am retired it is out of the question money wise.
I have a Z6ii and all I really want is a full frame camera with the Z8 auto focus
Maybe a Z5ii
@@Digmen1 As others have motioned, consider a used/refurbished Z8.
I personally believe a used z8 will be real close to a new z6iii when it drops. $3000 versus $2500. Gonna make it hard on a lot of people. Plus the wait as stated.
Wow great video .. I went with the ZF and I love it .. I will buy the Z6iii but only after probably a year from ship date or buy a used Z8 😊
Always smart to do that because you get a more precisely manufactured product…
If Z6iii has n-raw internal at 33MP or atleast 30MP.
I feel you might come back to Nikon lol
@@FramesTM 😀
😆
Always waiting for your videos💟
Thanks bro! I absolutely appreciate your support
Everyone is talking about how Much better one autofocus system is than another. Meanwhile I'm using a Canon 7D haha. Honestly the autofocus is so much better on all these cameras that I'm just picking one based on how much I enjoy editing the Raw files since that's where I spend most of my time.
Always waiting for your video about Z6 iii
Nikon basically has had two lines of cameras, high megapixels or high lowlight performance. Nikon should keep it that way. Increasing to 30-33 mp compromises a Z6iii’s low light capability. Further to this, I anticipate that Nikon will strive to have a Z6iii sensor read out to approach 10ms or less! More mp prevents that. It won’t be a stacked sensor that can do 4ms, thus we will still have a mechanical shutter.
The long and short of it is, expect the Z6iii to be a Zf on steroids with a Z8 like body and improved EVF.
Could be true
I got the z9 so I am waiting to see what comes out in 2033.
🤣🤣🤣
Putting a new video everyday on Z6 III just does not make any sence. You are just doing a guess work by juggling the specs of the Nikon old cameras. Infact the long guess work videos are too boring
Exactly
Superb
Just ordered the Z8. $500 off? 0% financing? Heck yeah.
Wow…
I think it will not be released until 2025, because Nikon has no new sensor or processor at this point. To be honest, there is no more you can do with Nikon’s sensors and expeed7.
Huh? Are you a Nikon engineer? Look at what they added to the Z8/9 this year alone.
@@csc-photo @vanlee0831 must be Canon Or Sony user
@@csc-photo I mean hardware , I know Nikon does great job on software. BTW, Z8/Z9 is 2021 technology and now it is 2024.
@@8Rames I use Nikon and SONY and I just speak of my thoughts about Nikon.
