It is very important to note: Enchant's bonus damage applies only to Mechon, outside of chain attacks. However, it is applied to each and every individual hit. At level 10, the bonus damage is 500, meaning if you use Sword Drones with Enchant up, you get 5000 extra damage OUTSIDE of the art itself. Still situational, but it can definitely make a difference against Daedala and the mechon story bosses.
@@espeonscottie I've seen sword drones get the bonus damage. You may have tried to observe it in a chain attack, which doesn't get the enchant bonus, probably because that'd be busted with the chain attack multipliers
Thomas Singer It’s at the end of a mid-game quest-line once Valak Mountain opens up. Lupa in Frontier Village gives it to you after reaching just 2 star area affinity and completing one other quest for her just beforehand, she’s in the Archeology centre about halfway up the tree

I love that Shulk is basically miming his Monado Arts when he has the Junk Sword. There are no fancy particle effects, but everyone gets the buffs anyway. Invisible Buster is my new favorite attack
Sharla is underrated but she have her use. The worst character in this game is probably Seven. She is highly overrated character. Not tanky, worst weapons, bad accuracy, terrible Arts, etc. It like all bad things combined in one package.

Have her fight monster that have 6 to 7 level higher than her or those superbosses and her attack will missed or blocked...a lot even with Night Vision and max Agility up eqipped. All of this is just one of her weakness and she still have more flaws that can be pointed out.
Keit Lowell that’s exactly why she’s not in FC, and dunban basically pressured Shulk to date seven which just throws Meliá under the bus, but this also means Shulk is loyal af and that explains why he doesn’t have any lines with malos when he is in the dlc for XC2, bc he knows his monado’s weak af
Another nice way increase Shulk's chain damage is to use Shadow Eye just before initiating a Chain Attack. During a Chain Attack all buff/debuff timers will be stalled temporarily, so in Shadow Eye's case you can have the 1.5x multiplier on your Physical Arts damage for the entire rest of the chain. Just a nice thing to keep in mind to help you deal even more damage in chains with Shulk. Note: Make sure you see the buff icon come up before starting the chain, since doing it to early during the Art animation will cancel it before it applies to you.
While this is still useful, don't mistake this as thinking you'll do 50% more damage; chain attack damage is an additive multiplier just like Shadow Eye, so if you Shadow Eye and land Back Slash from behind at x5 in a chain attack with his skills Ultimate Teamwork and Element of Surprise, Shadow Eye is just the difference between (Back Slash's base damage) * 1025% damage and (Back Slash's base damage) * 1075% damage.
Ah, Abyss versus Rudra. Thing with this is, you should factor in the Abyss having 10% higher critical hit rate compared to the Rudra. Yes, you have lower minimum damage, but you also get much higher maximum damage. It's like the Receding Rust of XC DE. Not original because of the damage glitch, though. Higher highs, lower lows. I do understand the love of the Rudra, it's undoubtedly the best replica in the original game, but I personally feel like the Abyss's higher crit rate and higher maximum damage makes it work better, especially since more crits with the critical damage skill means even more of a damage boost comparitively. I'd need to do full on calculations, but I do feel like it's worth a mention. And apologies for the broken out comments, I just want to get all these talking points put down as I see them come up. Still, great video, Enel, can't wait for the joke about Glorious Future on Sharla you have the potential to make.

It's probably down to preference, at the end of the day, big number or consistency, I just feel like Abyss has a very strong argument now, with the additional crit rate and such helping out. Best weapon in the game, but all your quest and colony 6 progress is reset, too.
I've said it once I'll say it a thousand times, between the fan shape AoE and the big DoT from bleed, Eater is way too slept on 😔✊ One mechanic that isn't talked about much is how activating a chain attack basically stops time. If you use Shadow Eye right before activating a chain attack, the 50%+ buff applies to every physical art Shulk uses in the CA without going away, because time technically doesn't progress enough for the buff to be removed. There's even enough of a grace period before Shadow Eye's buff runs out after using an art where you can Shadow Eye -> Back Slash, then as soon as Shulk connects the back slash start the CA and he'll still have shadow eye active for all of the CA
YES Eater actually beats out Buster in base damage because of the bleed if you arent vs mechon, so its amazing if you balance your stats on Shulk with 100 of each rather than 150 in one (Shulk has higher base Ether than Strength) PLUS the fan aoe is going hit more enemies than the line aoe 9 times out of 10, eater has lower cost than buster, and mechon arent actually all that common overall so the removal of buffs is needed about as often as the 2x damage to mechon from Buster
i just noticed a key difference between the xc1 guides and the xc2 blade guides the i’s in in aren’t capitalized in the xc1 guides, but they are in the xc2 ones

Always had trouble with Shulk because he would often draw aggro due to he's high damage art's and then get quickly taken down by the enemy. I think this video will help a lot with getting the most damage out of his art's so thanks!
Wow Enel Thanck for making these I acidentally deleted my save file and so far they´ve been really usefull to get my characters back, I´ll still have to do side quests and stuff again (luckily I had´nt done that many)
Something I wish you'd talk about is how good (or bad) the AI is with the characters. Of course, it's not so important when you're relying on Chain Attacks, but I'd still be interested in things like viability of non-Shulk-led parties, or how much benefit you get by playing Reyn instead of having him be a party member when compared to the benefit of playing Melia versus having her be AI. Other than that, great video, and I love the build section.
Great video man! Would like to hear about a few more things in future videos maybe like how the AI behaves with certain characters and maybe some good locations to find some of the gems. Safe 👏👏
Explosion of Energy is broken in the fact that after you reach the highest level of tension, you can't be knocked out of it unless you get inflicted with toppled/dazed/blowdown. Considering how fast haste and double attack gems can regen talent gauge, you can force tension to stay at the highest level for Shulk without investing in any other tension based skill for most fights.
Personally I really like haste on Shulk because you can get your Monado art super quick while also increasing your dps! It would also be good on Fiora too because she does a lot of auto attack damage.
Nice vid as always, great guide. I'm totally with you on Monado Armour being the best art in the game. It (along with Shield) makes Shulk by far the best support character, which is really saying something because we also have Riki, a party gauge battery and DOT spammer and Sharla, whose healing can make you last for basically an eternity. Armour alone trivializes Avalanche Abaasy imo, or any superboss for that matter, as long as you can take care of spikes.
Fun fact. If you use battle soul on shulk before an enemy spot you then run, then go to arts again, you can always get a monado art ready when a battle starts. Sorry if that was confusing.
@Enel do you know of the Sharla build where you use her cooldown reduction aura + Riki’s skills cooldown skills and electric plus to make a thunder bullet machine gun build. It actually makes Sharla pretty decent, since thunder bullet will recharge before the attack animation is even finished

Great video as always. Only thing I wanted to point out was at roughly 9:10 the chance of the Agility up skills proccing is actually 100% for a combined 35% increase, as the percentage next to [Active] is the chance to activate and the effective boost when activated is the percent beneath that
So, a very good tip that I saw elsewhere that I think would be great for your community is changing the button mapping when playing this game. You can set left and right on the d-pad to shoulder buttons and move with analog stick while selecting arts with the shoulder buttons. You typically use the shoulder buttons less and at times that it is not as important to move, so having them on the d-pad works out just fine. Love your guides and look forward to seeing you speedrun this game, too.
I saw that tip but I hate using it. The dpad works just fine for me since you can buffer inputs anyway, I can usually use my right hand to move over if i need to move at the same time. Plus it remaps them for parts of the game that aren't combat which is just annoying
I am kinda of curious how buffed Sharla is in this game by the simple fact that Drive boost now goes to 75% cooldown reduction instead of 65%, which is actually insane. I haven't gotten to this point yet myself, but between that, Riki's 15% CDR at night, and her own 25% CDR on healing arts, that puts Heal Round (you know, the one that basically fully heals your party) on about a 7.5 second cooldown, assuming that cooldown reduction stacks like (.25 * .85 * .75) = healing arts have 15.9% of their displayed cooldown time during Drive Boost at night. Heal Bullet would be at 2.7 seconds, Heal Blast at 3.2 seconds (thanks to the massive decrease in cooldown with the two additional levels). Drive Boost itself hits 70% uptime (without relying on Sharla to Aura Bullet herself or refreshing during chain attacks) with Dunban's +10 second aura skill linked thanks to the -6 seconds of cooldown and +2.4 seconds uptime. Makes me wonder if you can just throw up 3x Earth elements (with a Phys Protect gem to get going since you can't start with all three) and basically just facetank endgame red tag phys only users at an extremely low level.
I know I’m probably late to this, but can anyone tell me what the C letter is next to the gems? I’ve been looking but haven’t ever figured out what it is and how to get them
I do think you massively underrate Monado Eater. It has extraordinarily high damage potential: with 100% Bleed Plus it has an effective multiplier of 1510% at rank X without dipping into additive multipliers at all, so it can do eight times that or more in a chain attack, while Shadow Eye, Back Slash/Buster's bonus effects, Back Attack Plus gems, etc. are all massively reduced in importance during chain attacks. It being ether based is only really hurt by the fact that it doesn't get Slit Edge/Phys def down multipliers (though some enemies are immune to these); Shulk's ether stat is naturally higher than his strength stat so it's not like being ether based gimps its base damage. This all makes Eater (with Bleed Plus) incredibly powerful to land in chain attacks, for the same reasons Poison Earth is, but to a much lesser extent.
I can't thank you enough for these guides on XC1 and XC2! They really help me understand the combat of the games and just make them a ton more fun to play. Could you do a guide on how to get the bonus skill trees for the party members? It would be great to see that!
Fandom is a bit annoying but the Xeno wiki is an excellent resource for stuff like this. If you look at the party member pages for each character there's a skill tree section with all five and unlock requirements listed.
Nice video. Definitely Monado III and Glory Gauntlets for Shulk. Must have gear for my XC1 characters would include Titan Plate and Comet Biter for Riki, Ledios and Sunset Staff for Melia, Ledios and Endless Rifle for Sharla, Speed V Frame and Conviction Blades for Seven, Atomic Driver and Glory Gauntlets for Reyn, and Wyvern Cutlass and Glory Gauntlets for Dunban. Pushes me into ng+, but I think worth the effort with the new expert mode.
I run this exact same setup, but instead of two strength up VIs I have a strength up VI and a quick step VI. Combined with the movement links I feel like I'm sprinting.

I would like to see guides for the rest of the characters, but I would also like if you would show the character both if you're playing as them and if their controlled by the ai.
Why not use the Talent boost weapon gem on shulk? While I'm not sure if there's a higher rank then 3, even just rank 3 on it fills your talent gauge by 1/4th every auto attack. Combine this with haste and double attack and you can spam manado arts as much as you want.

max damage doesn't matter at level 99 since they both cap at 999 anyway. This makes Rudra better IMO

Generally the AI is great at using Dunban, pretty good with Riki, Reyn, and Seven, okay with Shulk, and bad with Sharla and Melia.

I just found out that he Glory Armor has Debuff Resist VI and it's better than the lancelot armor, so I would suggest using that instead!

Explosion of Energy is broken in the fact that after you reach the highest level of tension, you can't be knocked out of it unless you get inflicted with toppled/dazed/blowdown. Considering how fast haste and double attack gems can regen talent gauge, you can force tension to stay at the highest level for Shulk without investing in any other tension based skill for most fights.
Personally I really like haste on Shulk because you can get your Monado art super quick while also increasing your dps! It would also be good on Fiora too because she does a lot of auto attack damage.

I'm totally with you on Monado Armour being the best art in the game. It (along with Shield) makes Shulk by far the best support character, which is really saying something because we also have Riki, a party gauge battery and DOT spammer and Sharla, whose healing can make you last for basically an eternity.
Armour alone trivializes Avalanche Abaasy imo, or any superboss for that matter, as long as you can take care of spikes.
Fun fact. If you use battle soul on shulk before an enemy spot you then run, then go to arts again, you can always get a monado art ready when a battle starts. Sorry if that was confusing.
@Enel do you know of the Sharla build where you use her cooldown reduction aura + Riki’s skills cooldown skills and electric plus to make a thunder bullet machine gun build. It actually makes Sharla pretty decent, since thunder bullet will recharge before the attack animation is even finished

Great video as always. Only thing I wanted to point out was at roughly 9:10 the chance of the Agility up skills proccing is actually 100% for a combined 35% increase, as the percentage next to [Active] is the chance to activate and the effective boost when activated is the percent beneath that

So, a very good tip that I saw elsewhere that I think would be great for your community is changing the button mapping when playing this game. You can set left and right on the d-pad to shoulder buttons and move with analog stick while selecting arts with the shoulder buttons. You typically use the shoulder buttons less and at times that it is not as important to move, so having them on the d-pad works out just fine. Love your guides and look forward to seeing you speedrun this game, too.
I saw that tip but I hate using it. The dpad works just fine for me since you can buffer inputs anyway, I can usually use my right hand to move over if i need to move at the same time. Plus it remaps them for parts of the game that aren't combat which is just annoying

I am kinda of curious how buffed Sharla is in this game by the simple fact that Drive boost now goes to 75% cooldown reduction instead of 65%, which is actually insane. I haven't gotten to this point yet myself, but between that, Riki's 15% CDR at night, and her own 25% CDR on healing arts, that puts Heal Round (you know, the one that basically fully heals your party) on about a 7.5 second cooldown, assuming that cooldown reduction stacks like (.25 * .85 * .75) = healing arts have 15.9% of their displayed cooldown time during Drive Boost at night. Heal Bullet would be at 2.7 seconds, Heal Blast at 3.2 seconds (thanks to the massive decrease in cooldown with the two additional levels). Drive Boost itself hits 70% uptime (without relying on Sharla to Aura Bullet herself or refreshing during chain attacks) with Dunban's +10 second aura skill linked thanks to the -6 seconds of cooldown and +2.4 seconds uptime.
Makes me wonder if you can just throw up 3x Earth elements (with a Phys Protect gem to get going since you can't start with all three) and basically just facetank endgame red tag phys only users at an extremely low level.

I know I’m probably late to this, but can anyone tell me what the C letter is next to the gems? I’ve been looking but haven’t ever figured out what it is and how to get them

I do think you massively underrate Monado Eater. It has extraordinarily high damage potential: with 100% Bleed Plus it has an effective multiplier of 1510% at rank X without dipping into additive multipliers at all, so it can do eight times that or more in a chain attack, while Shadow Eye, Back Slash/Buster's bonus effects, Back Attack Plus gems, etc. are all massively reduced in importance during chain attacks. It being ether based is only really hurt by the fact that it doesn't get Slit Edge/Phys def down multipliers (though some enemies are immune to these); Shulk's ether stat is naturally higher than his strength stat so it's not like being ether based gimps its base damage. This all makes Eater (with Bleed Plus) incredibly powerful to land in chain attacks, for the same reasons Poison Earth is, but to a much lesser extent.
I can't thank you enough for these guides on XC1 and XC2! They really help me understand the combat of the games and just make them a ton more fun to play. Could you do a guide on how to get the bonus skill trees for the party members? It would be great to see that!
those are more quest related, would be hard to get footage for that now but you can look it up online pretty easily
Fandom is a bit annoying but the Xeno wiki is an excellent resource for stuff like this. If you look at the party member pages for each character there's a skill tree section with all five and unlock requirements listed.
Nice video. Definitely Monado III and Glory Gauntlets for Shulk. Must have gear for my XC1 characters would include Titan Plate and Comet Biter for Riki, Ledios and Sunset Staff for Melia, Ledios and Endless Rifle for Sharla, Speed V Frame and Conviction Blades for Seven, Atomic Driver and Glory Gauntlets for Reyn, and Wyvern Cutlass and Glory Gauntlets for Dunban. Pushes me into ng+, but I think worth the effort with the new expert mode.

Eater is better than purge at the job of removing auras because auras are counted as a type of buff. Also, additional DOT effect is nice.
I run this exact same setup, but instead of two strength up VIs I have a strength up VI and a quick step VI. Combined with the movement links I feel like I'm sprinting.

When you say enemies don't actually have a defense stat, I'm assuming added defense only applies if an enemy is more resilient on one side?

I would like to see guides for the rest of the characters, but I would also like if you would show the character both if you're playing as them and if their controlled by the ai.
Why not use the Talent boost weapon gem on shulk? While I'm not sure if there's a higher rank then 3, even just rank 3 on it fills your talent gauge by 1/4th every auto attack. Combine this with haste and double attack and you can spam manado arts as much as you want.
