Jean-Michel's bass playing is killer on this album. The bass sounds so good and his bass lines at the end of grind are just perfect. What an underrated bass player.
Dude seriously. He's a huge part of what makes Gojira sound absolutely massive. He's always had sick ass bass lines when he's not mirroring the guitars, so he's clearly as creative as the rest of the band. Bass players don't get enough credit in metal man.
Favorite unknown player. Sometimes I think he is a little low in the mix (especially on Magma or live), but on Fortitude the mix let’s you hear how great his playing is.
The end of grind goes so well as the ending to the album. Sounds like another world which was the first song released, then grind as then end. I love it SO much
@@jericoejones7376 Yeah I've noticed that for a couple years (mainly since Magma released) that when Joe does his signature scream/yell style of singing it can sound strained. But I agree, he sounds pretty great here.
Okay... to be honest... I'm fairly certain that Joe isn't singing live here. These vocals are TOO close to the album sound. They're at the exact same tempo. The nuances of all the album takes are ALL the same and happen at the same time. There are no ad libs that differ it from the album. It doesn't sound exactly like the album... all the vocal effects are more or less gone as is any doubling, so it sounds like it could be something sung live except... it's way too spot on. Their recent spot on french TV did not sound remotely this good either. That all kinda points to Joe either not trying there, or him kiiind of umm... how do I put it... going the Hetfield-post-black-album way, whether due to damage or age (for a timeline: Gojira's members (44ish) are as old now as when Metallica's were when Death Magnetic released (Het is 57, so 54 in 2018 and 44 in 2008) and Megadeth's were for United Abominations. Yeah, Gojira are old). Seems most singers have a mid to late 30s vocal change after being on tour for 15-20 years. Maybe this is just a really on the dot performance, but I'm worried.
@@davismiller3769 I mean, just in Amazonia you can clearly hear some differences in the song. Like when he sings burn the second time in the bridge/breakdown at 3:04 it's like a low growl unlike the studio recording where it's more like a scream. And just after that he also doesn't sing the word learn at all and instead continues just holding the clean note of the word sorrow. So based on just those two instances I would be quite confident in saying that the vocals are sung live.
I’ve listened to “new found” 186 times. I was listening to it pumping gas yesterday and a little girl asked me who that was. Hah!!! Mission accomplished.

@@ihavewaited90daystochangem51 Yes. Best thing about about Fortitute is he is going low lotes. I know he did growls in FMTS, but in this album i feel like he is lower (and more sinister because of his age and production)
@@natesilvamusic I think he uses back up vocals in the cell's chorus, it sounds too much like the studio version (I don't blame him for that, if he actually sang it live his voice would have totally disappeared by now, so hard to sing)

Enjoy!
god damn... read lots of comments on the new songs that Fortitude isn't heavy and that Gojira went soft since Magma.. how wrong they are. Amazonia's insane boing-boing groove will be legendary to witness live in a huge crowd. and Grind is a straight up face melter imo.
To be fair, they did become much softer compared to the pre-Magma days. What you call a face melter would not stick out on an older record. It's perfectly listenable, don't get me wrong, it's just not the same band. If i treat it like that, it's still good
