Although the graphics aren't the best on PS2 it has that orangey/pinky tint which makes it feel much more like California in the early 90s. PS2 captured the atmosphere the best, imo.

The atmosphere has since been modded into the PC release. One of the benefits to mods, I guess.
Strangely enough, that version is totally fucking *bugged* with incorrect damage models. Crash a car from behind and it takes damage in the front. I have no idea how that got past playtesting, but if you were to ask the community on the quality of the port, one can fathom the game got very little playtesting.
Somehow Rockstar, a company that can literally make whatever it wants, is also the same company where their definitive versions of games are very *rarely* on PC. Wrap your brain around that. Let's just look at the GTA franchise with PC releases.
GTA - Started out as a PC first game, probably the best version if you can run it today.
GTA II - Same as above
GTA III - Started out as a game for PS2, and the PC version is a 1:1 port with additional items in the game world. A trend of improvements that doesn't last. The PC version is also missing a few assets and a song.
GTA VC - The PC version is actually based on a build of the game older than the final PS2 release. Many assets and textures are missing in this version that were on consoles.
GTA SA - One of Rockstar's worst ports. It has some improvements like better textures and more ingame geometry but a bucketload of issues. There's the broken damage model as I cited earlier, a broken day/night cycle, incorrect car shading, missing assets, missing parked cars, and is *still* getting fixes in 2015. It's a testament to the devotion of fans of this franchise to put up with such a shit port.
GTA IV - Considered by many to be one of the worst ports ever released for the PC, and yet, conversely, is also the definitive edition of the game. The game can't keep a solid 60fps even on current hardware, but features improved textures, a slightly improved day/night cycle, texture improvements to some clothing, and a better recoil animation for the desert eagle. The Ballad of Gay Tony, GTA IV's second DLC pack, incorrectly loads console textures, despite the game having high quality PC textures to load instead, but this can be fixed by renaming and replacing the assets.
As you can sort of see, the trend of them getting iffier and iffier really continued as the series went on. There's almost always a catch with recommending the PC version of a GTA game, and I sincerely hope GTA V and GTA Online do not continue this unfortunate trend. It's odd to see such a major franchise, a franchise that *started* on PCs, fuck up so consistently after it went to consoles. One might be better off playing San Andreas on PS2 for consistency, if only because it's the only platform that has all of the 3D Universe games on it (the PC is lacking official versions of Liberty and Vice City Stories).

I still prefer the original PS2/Xbox version. Yes, the others are more polished and sharper, but I love the orange warm hues on the PS2 version. It really made you feel the hot heat of Los Santos and I think gave the game character.

Valentino Harpa i managed to get a good framerate once i disabled the dualpass alpha fix on skygfx settings, just left the World option enabled, and disabled the other ones. then i disabled hq shadows too. silentpatch mod also bumps framerate by removing the 14ms delay. anyway im playing on a core i3 intel hd graphics 3000 series so you should be okay lol

for better draw distance, use san andreas limit adjuster. for ps2 stuff, use skygfx and silentpatch. these all can work together and also silentpatch fixes most of the bugs.

Epicci HL2 blew my fucking mind back then, i stopped going to the cyber (place where your rent pc's by the hour in argentina) because my grandma bought a pc, i think it had something like a geforce 5500 im not sure, the graphics blew my mind but sadly i was too young to understand it's story, which later on many years after, i replayed and thought it was the best history period.
***** Oh I so know the feeling. First time I saw half-life 2 pics in gaming magazine I was like wtf. The graphics looked so good. Half-life 1 was my favourite game and I totally had to get half-life 2 and thank god I did. Made the steam account with the half-life 2 and still using the same account to this day.
I really didnt understand the story when I was young but later on I started to understand it, I have played all half-lifes so many times that it would be impossible to count them :D

The PS2 version is still the best. I have no idea why, but it makes the game more original. The color effects on PS2 are a bit better, you have that feeling of playing the original GTA San Andreas. PC, Xbox, 360 and Mobile versions are also pretty amazing, but, yet, again, PS2 version beats 'em all. My opinion.

I agree, bro. It's not about the graphics, or the mods. The PS2 was original. I remember playing SA when it first came out in 2004, and I was 14. I loved that game. I just bought it a couple of weeks ago for Xbox 360, and it's just not the same. I believe old games like GTA SA, GTA 3, Vice City, and all of the other old ones are way better than the new ones.

Dammmmmn...I remember buying this over a decade ago, and the graphics being mind blowing. Seeing the well-done comparison to my iPad's graphics, I'm thrown! Absolute beautiful. Hint: look at the anti-aliases and the background/detail in skyline/buildings.
Oh my Gosh, it almost look like a new game. What can I say... Rockstar did an amazing work with this game.. it's probably the best GTA so far. I mean it's so complete, 10 years and I still love to play it... I love you Rockstar, I really hope that the GTA V DLC will be with gangs and stuff just like in San Andreas... Oh, also... I miss San Fierro... I miss Las Venturas... I miss this map... I miss CJ... I hope Rockstar will make a GTA game similar to this one, the story sometime around 90's... and see CJ, in a HD Era, even if this is impossible, as Rockstar claimed. #LoveRockstar

In some strange way, I prefer the PS2 graphics. Probably because it had more stylized colour scheme, bloom etc, seems a bit more style / art direction than the other bland version. Additionally the character models are horrible across the board so blurring them out a little... almost works for the better. You can see less the strange transitions between hand to arm etc on the character models. It's the OG Version after all.
Differently from the other versions,it had a bit of atmosphere that actually made the three city's look different.
Odin's Playground PS2 version actually has better features over-all compared to the PC, believe it or not. I'm assuming Rockstar were just lazy or didn't give a fuck but you can easily mod the game on PC, so it'll resemble the PS2.

2:12 On the XBOX 360/ Mobile Version the picture is in the ground.
This is actually a really interesting comparison, each version has its pros and cons.
From a technical standpoint, the 360 has the sharpest look due to higher resolution and some updated textures. However, I personally don't like the extreme contrast that they added to some objects. It feels really odd. This version is probably the easiest to play, simply because it's so clean looking and based on a much stronger system than PS2 or PCs (at the PS2 era!!).
The PC looks alright, it's closer to the PS2 original but with a higher resolution. Sadly, it looks really desaturated in comparison, which makes the game lose some of its atmosphere.
Now the PS2 version, it's obviously the weakest version if you look at it from a technical standpoint. However, I like it the most, probably because of the nice color filter that they used, it just feels more convincing. Just look at the cop scene at 1:07, doesn't the PS2 have a really nice yellow-orange color tone to it? Feels just you remember those really hot summer evenings. The sun effect also really helps here, they use that a lot to create a specific atmosphere. With the other 2 versions, this atmopshere is almost completely lost.
Another great example at 2:52. Do you see how in the PS2 version, the background is all wobbly (I forgot how this effect is called) due to excessive heat of the high standing middaysun? You also can hardly see the guys faces because of the bright lightsource in the background, which makes sense. The PC version does that too, but without the great sun effect. Now the 360 version completely kills the atmosphere with its generic colors.
When you notice and appreciate these effects, you can really tell that the PS2 was the lead console here. Too bad it also was by far the weakest. If a true remake ever happens with the GTA V engine, I hope that the team will stick to the atmosphere of the PS2 version.
***** Yeah, I'd definitely go for the pc version and then add the "SkyGfx" mod which was just released last year. That one recreates the PS2 atmosphere really well!

+Fak Yuh Googel man, that's so to the point, I mean just look at the 360/mobile version, it looks way too "plasticy" and I would dare to say visually inconsistent due to the no contrast at all, or way too much of it, but in the wrong place and in the wrong time. It's like, random things are pasted on some random background with no logic behind it, there's no depth, no warmth, that specific atmosphere just cannot be experienced, it's like dozen of filters had been removed. The only real advantage, from the technical point of view, that 360/mobile version has over PS2 is draw distance. But I guess, that's how the business is run, just say it's "HD" and everyone starts losing their minds over it. Throw some shiny and sharp textures and there you go. I like every platform, with PC being my favorite (just because of KB and MS, not because of the "moar coars - master race bullshit"), but regarding San Andreas, everything after PS2 is a downgrade. I just hope, that if Sony brings PS2 backwards compatibility to PS4 and Rockstar decide to release GTA SA once again for it, we'll have the chance to see something very, very similar to PS2 graphics, only with extended draw distance.

Xbox/mobile keeps some of the ps2 atmospheres and colors and improves the PC graphic and combines them but it fails when it comes to the characters' models that look like plastic like you said, which makes that version the worst instead of the best like it was supposed to be.

GTA: SA is one of the best games of all time. Literally. Had countless hours of fun with this. Sam Jackson as Officer Tenpenny is amazing.
Everything is more HD but I miss that Orange tiny to everything like the original game and the new UI threw the entire nostalgia feel out the window which is the main selling point

ApexApocalypse The thing is, the 360 is a re-mastered version made years after the PC version came out. So take that into account. San Andreas was a PS2/PC game, and the PS2 was a gen earlier than the 360, so the PC will look like the PS2 due to console holdback. If SA was made when the 360 and PS3 was out it would look better than those consoles, etc. Like how PC looks better than PS4/XB1 on GTA V.

I liked the Xbox 360 version a lot better in my opinion. At first when I played it on Xbox and nothing else it didn't look too shiny and that stuff. It just looked perfect to me. But that's just my opinion. On another note, ps2 is 2nd on the list because of the orange faze. Now not a lot of people know this but it actually helped hide poor draw distance and other poor things such as graphics, and etc. But It's my opinion. I would like to hear everyone else's opinions too about the game if you want to.

I mean it looks fake in technical graphic in Android/XBOX version. It doesn't feel cinematic and atmospheric like PS2 and PC, limitation of the models got depths than Android/XBOX version, Android/XBOX version too real and too HD, making the models and surroundings look like tight bondage to me. Android/XBOX version you like it, not my problem, but I only prefer good old PS2/PC.

Thanks for making this video. I played this game years ago on PS2 and just decided today to buy it again on 360 because it was on sale. I'm glad to see they made some nice improvements to it. I'm definitely in for a fun time. I just hope they actually make it backwards compatible for the One soon.

Somehow, the game looks better in a lower definition because of the low poly models.
Also, it seems that PS2 had better lightings that disappered after the porting on the PC (along with some not-important details, I've seen a list a pair of months ago)
Also, the PC version doesn't look that great, maybe because it's a direct port, I don't know... sure, the mods are crazy awesome for that version.
The Mobile version has better lightings and just the idea of playing GTA SA on a cellphone is honestly crazy awesome (even if I doesn't have an Android/IOS cellphone) and it looks better than the 2004 PC version... but honestly, not having the good old mods for that version is sad.
The Xbox version looks too polished/shiny. Characters look like LEGO pieces. PC still wins considering that he didn't even max out the game's resolution/quality, yet it still looked good enough.
