  • This exercise is designed to be used with the Schaman Medical Harmonica. The Harmonica Exercise for Lung Program (H.E.L.P.) started in 2007 and in 2011 led to the invention of the first Medical Harmonica, called a Diatonic Chord Harmonica, an instrument designed for the musically hopeless.
The methodology behind this instrument and the program developed to support it, have a number of components. These are designed to provide physiological pulmonary challenges to provide unique exercise, and ultimately benefit, to the lungs and the pulmonary system.
The three general areas of focus are: 1) exercise the lungs above and below the "breathing comfort zone," 2) strengthen the muscles of breathing and 3) re-recruite lung dormant areas, which develop with aging and lack of appropriately vigorous breathing and lung activity.
Pulsed Metronome Breathing provides a vehicle to achieve #1 and #3. It is an adjunct and an addition (introducing rhythmic playing and enhancing musicality) to the "Long Tones" exercises that have been used in the H.E.L.P. program since it's inception.
Two videos are available. This one, which provides verbal and visual instructions (only needed a few times when first starting), and "The Exercise Only" version which bypasses the instructions and gets right into the exercises.
