I had a friend recently who did a charity challenge to raise awareness of the refugee crisis by eating only what refugees eat in a week…he was given a pack of rations which included lentils…what he did “not do” is wash and soak them overnight….he ended up with pains in the stomach and they were so bad he went to the doctor…who advised him the lentils had swollen with his stomach juices…and was causing the pain…it is always advisable to read the instructions on labels regardless of the cooks suggestion of just adding them to a dish….the same can happens if rice is not cooked properly. ….some legumes can also be poisonous if not soaked properly…sorry… I don’t trust this cook because bottom line… Indian cooking is so diverse and they all have their own ideas depending on the region of India they live…just like other countries cuisine. 🇦🇺🇦🇺
If you can crush the lentil between your thumb and finger easily it is cooked. Your friend must not have cooked the lentils for long enough.
