It's true, Islamic law is not the main basis of Indonesian law. But Indonesia is Moslem majority, Halal law is mandatory for foods here to serve the Moslem population. So it is safe and easy for them which also Moslem to find halal food everywhere in place like Jakarta. As far as they not going to non Moslem region like Chinatown or Bali, there's sould be no problem.
In this case, I suppose it’s not valid to argue that certain things occur simply due to a large population. Keep in mind, these guys are from China, a country with a population more than five times larger. They live in Beijing, a city with double the population of Jakarta. I guess the differences lie in mindset, culture, and rule of law.
