    My biggest advice for young people out there (16-25yo), please don't waste your time. There is no big secret or formula, there are no concrete steps for success or "only if I knew this" process. If you want to achieve something you just have to go out there and DO IT. I wish there was a better more beautiful answer, but that is just how it works.
    At the end, everyone builds their own path. Usually through hard work and perseverance, just like Tai is doing by selling his content, which involves his actions, time, and effort.
    Truth is, you never actually "make it", you never actually arrive or finish because life always continues once we achieve our goals. Something important I realized is that: The journey is the destination.
    And believe me when I say...
    You only achieve by doing
    You learn by failing
    And you only grow by persevering.
    Anything else, are just words.

      crangel21 Thank you so much for this advice! 😊 I am about to turn 25 years old and I've been hesitating whether or not to go back to school. Well, your comment is one more statement that is making me take the decision to get an education and acquire more skills and abilities as my "secret formula". Take care.

    Thank you for this Tai. I pray that people humble themselves to this video and your advice. It takes humbleness to receive this advice but if received you will not walk through your days angry anymore. I live in New York where everyone is so flustered, where everyone is chasing money. But try telling someone to stop chasing money and chase what they are passion about, their true dream and visions and you will get scolded or laughed at. If someone gave you all of the money in the world...what would you do everyday? Chase that! & as Tai explained don't chase the YOLO. Chase your GIFT.

    I'm 19 and I have no idea what i'm "passionate" about in life. I'm NOT afraid to work hard. I'm afraid of regret; the regret of not doing what i truly enjoy and believe in. I'm so lost right now, i feel useless. Until i find out what i truly want to do, i'm going to have to just study hard in university...

    • @lilgrassjelly
      @lilgrassjelly 8 років тому

      I may not know you but I must thank you for your honest opinion. I've never thought about it in that perspective. Thanks again for giving me a place to start!

    • @tonynguyen8166
      @tonynguyen8166 8 років тому +2

      What you should be doing is understanding how the topics can be applicable in real life rather than studying hard. A person can have an A in math(from just memorizing formulas/theorems) but doesn't understand anything and another person can have a B+(they've made minor mistakes but they understand how these formulas/rules act in our daily lives). Point is universities give you stuff you can use to get to your goal, it's whether or not you paid enough attention to deeply understand it. Enjoyment can change over time, so don't rely on that. If you have a drive that is all you need in life.

      Good luck. First you have to do any kind of thing then you will more realise what you like, what you want and dont want. I started first with informatic-economics than 2 years later changed to corporate-economics, now i do my own shit with that knowledge and meanwhile i got more ideas than physical strength to work those out and im working 80-120h/week. It's easy, just start with aaanything then you'll see further =)

    Agreed. Current status on the good life scale is ZERO. I did have all 4 in balance at one point in my life and now it is completely out of whack. I was smoking a cigarette while I was listening to this video and as soon as I got to my destination I crushed the remainder of the pack and threw it in the garbage. • @123bathinapes
      @123bathinapes 7 років тому +34

      I agree with Tai more as well. As much as I love Gary, I like Tai's life more. He works, he teaches, he goes to the cinema, he goes to his homes in other countries, he does martial arts, learns to play a musical instrument.
      Gary V just works works works works. I respect his hustle tremendously, but it's just not a lifestyle/balance I'd want. I want to work hard, but then enjoy my time off as well.
      But then again, Gary also encourages people to find out what makes them happy, and do it. Don't buy into this notion that everybody should strive to be a super successful this that and the third. So if that's what makes him happy, more power to him.

      Actually Gary V says the same thing. He’s said multiple times that he wants “everyone at his funeral” because he genuinely cares for people and wants to change their lives. The caveat that he also mentions is that he’s wired differently and can literally grind forever. He’s doing what he loves like Tai mentions here which is grinding.

    I'm 18 years old Thank you so much for this video I don't really exactly know what I want to do with my life I want a good happy life thought, I have many interest, many of the people I know are at university which used to make me sad because I was only going to community college even tho I could possibly transfer I don't think I want rondo that I don't think university will help me find myself and what I want to do, but I do really like community college because it is affordable and I can learn different things and learn more about thinks I like. I'm glad I'm not stuck in the way of thinking that you should do what makes you unhappy now so you can be happy in the future. Thank you so much your so inspiring.

    Yes, so true. I thought this guy was just a BSer at first. But I'm open-minded and figured I could learn something from him and everyone - even ppl you don't agree with. Either way, this guy has surprised me. He seems like a genuine, real, down-to-earth human. He's very real. And zero BS. Unlike, like, everyone else. So many ppl BS. And just go with the flow and say what makes their families or communities feel better. I like that he says real shit that could upset ppl, not for the sake of upsetting ppl but for the sake of acknowledging reality and calling things out. Most ppl are unhappy but keep others and their ideas around them happy. It's a BS game. Break the game.

    Tai, but what about entrepreneur Elon Musk. His end is to reach Mars and improve society. However, he is neglecting his good life by working crazy hours and as a result diminishing his health and social quality time. Sure, if he'd have a balanced good life he could pursue his dream for a longer time (as he'd probably live longer). Still, what if his dream could be crushed any moment and he is just protecting his goal and fighting to keep it alive for the present moment. Would you call him a fool?

    • @franciscovaldez2061

      Styla durt you are only a fool if u chase after money and hate what you do, Elon musk loves what he does, he spends time with his kids, and actually gets some work outs in... He's fairly happy even though he could definitely be happier

    • @jonahnawabi
      @jonahnawabi 8 років тому

      This is tricky. Tai is saying, for the average person, to purse "the good life." On the other hand, some people choose to pursue "the meaningful life" - mother teresa, Elon must, etc. These people are optimizing their life for something other than their own well being. You are right - Elon Musk probably is diminishing his health and social quality time. BUT, he chose to optimize for something greater than himself.

    • @brandonweis7375
      @brandonweis7375 8 років тому

      Some people's good life is characterized by different things. The good life to Musk may be to drastically change the lives of those around him and that probably makes him genuinely happy. Shit, if it didn't make him happy, he wouldn't be going as hard as he still is. That man is the single greatest innovator of the century and quite possibly in the history of all time.

    • @anau5853

      Styla durt another example could be the guy from imitation game, he was working extremely hard by often sacrificing his health and social like and if he had not done so we would not have computers now, yes your name might be forgotten but not your achievements.

    TAI I HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YOU HEAR ME OUT :D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    You should sacrifice a lot during your early years 16-24 (I'm 25) because that's when your habits take shape and the kind of life you'll live is largely defined. Like WB says, "The chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken." It is better to optimize for the long haul during this time. My possibly controversial advice is that it's okay to give up some hobbies, not exercise as much as you'd like, and not eat as healthy as you want to in exchange for building a better future. My thinking is that you can have the luxury of doing these things once you've worked hard for many years and you've earned it.
    One crucial decision for young people is what kind of work you will go into because it will shape your entire life. At this age you make small decisions that branch out into probability streams. I have a good analogy for this, think of it as climbing up the branches of a tree, at every split there are different paths you can take, by choosing a path you are in effect narrowing the possibilities of what can be. The paths you take in the beginning are much more crucial than ones you take toward the end. Once you get to the end you are a mature fruit you have now determined what group, sub-group, and sub-sub-group you are in. Are you a doctor, are you among the top 10% best doctors? This has been determined. Also if you are a dentist with a couple years of hard work you can transition to oral surgeon but it would be nearly impossible to transition to corporate lawyer at this point.
    One thing that I did is switch from Finance to Math and CS one year before graduating so it took me 6 years to finish Bachelors. My reasoning is that I'd rather give up an extra 2 years in school than spend a lifetime in the wrong career. You give this advice in the beginning, but by advocating not optimizing too much for the long term you are contradicting yourself. I am all about the long term. That's my master plan and I'm sticking to it is a phrase I'm known for saying. My advice for those that don't know what to study is pick something that adds economic value and is highly valued by the market. Be good at it, be excellent at it, and then find ways to start a business out of it. That way if your business fails you have a career to fall back on. I see a lot of entrepreneurs wanting to start a company with no technical skills and with no work experience and thus no understanding of what the needs are of companies across a particular industry. If you can address these needs cost effectively then you have a business. A business is the ultimate goal, for me at least.
    SIDE NOTE: I'm extremely skeptical about your talks sometimes but I really admired this one and the outlook you presented. I see you're at the point in your life where you try to optimize for happiness and that's something I like to think about. Much of us are not there yet though and that's why we look up to you for insight. I feel like I'm at a point where I can start enjoying myself a little bit but I think I'm still too young and I don't want to settle. I'm gonna be honest I don't enjoy the majority of your content but sometimes you have to sift through all the stuff to find the gold. Just like in investing ;)

What if steve jobs are all these great people like elon musk slowed down their business and worried more about relationships then their goals and dreams. Would tesla and apple ever of gotten created in time before these greats die/died? what if you go too slow before you actaully change the world? Could there be a debate here? What if ur only happy until ur SUCCESSFUL at your MISSION?

    ok, give me opinions
    youre 17, no licence, no car, minimum wage job, and school
    youre unhappy at home but youll survive
    you want a car for freedom but you have no financial aid
    optimize for happiness currently(spend more of your skimp checks)
    optimize for greater happiness in the future(get car and freedom by saving the majority)
    which you pickin?

      first off you have to encounter a lot of adversity so that it fuels you before you really take off and make a commitment to the future successful you. Now at 17 first do some "inner work" unlearn all the middle class bs. and learn from the certain percentile of Successful people. Emulate their habits and digest their advice. Adopting this knowledge is going to be difficult but its worth it.You have to remove any negative people because they are a threat to your prosperity and it may include the closest people to you but its vital for your future. Read Self Development books and get Inspired by Mentors. (Remember the difference is that poor people have Big Tv's and the Rich have Big libraries.) After surround yourself with other ambitious, positive people. Develop the mindset of the successful. At this point become fearless because once you become fearless life becomes limitless. Practice Self discipline and keep your minimum wage job until you have a car, then once you have the car, get license. save some money learn about how money works then invest wisely in a business like e-commerce. Accumulate income generating assets or Income replacing assets so you don't have to work a minimum wage job. Now you've got 2 income streams. Remember at a job you are an asset to the company and they determine your income. You are the Ceo of your life you determine how much you are worth. Grow capital and build a business. Learn investing. Then you're on the road to financial freedom. Reinforce the Vision daily. Eat Healthy, Exercise, meditate, Live Life on your own terms. Get better every day. Never forget that Investing in Yourself pays the best interest. Grow and Prosper. Have fun and Enjoy life. Make the commitment now the future successful you is calling on you. Keep pushing forward.
      "Winners never quit and quitters never win."
