      For 40 years I’ve made my mother’s mayonnaise based salad dressing. However since we are trying to eat as oil free as possible we have started using the ultra smooth silken tofu (comes in a tube) in place of the mayo. It works really well. We always add minced onion anyway so it disguises the slight beany taste the tofu imparts. We love it!

    This is a great video. Thanks. I grew up cooking with oil. I cooked with oil in my home (and even wrote cookbooks singing its praises). For the last 15 years, I've cooked without it. I get healthy fats from homemade soy milk and flax. It's pretty difficult to overeat those things, but avocados, nuts, and most seeds are just too yummy. I have difficulty self-limiting calorie-dense foods and, therefore, keep these calorie bombs out of my house and mouth. Instead, I use pureed cauliflower, white beans, or tofu for savory, creamy applications. Eating WFPB no O, I reduced my total cholesterol from 252 to 140-ish, lost 45 lbs, and reversed some yucky maladies. Plus, I've never felt better or enjoyed my food more. Again, thanks for a good video.

    Olive oil actually helps reduce one's risk of developing atherosclerosis (plaque within arteries). It is the LDL cholesterol from eating animal products that primarily leads to the diseases development.
    Fat in olive oil is quite healthy for you, but just be mindful of the quantities as, like you said, it contains a lot of calories.
    No need to fear fat, just educate ourselves on it.

      Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, Asherlah! My thoughts on this have evolved over the years. For me, while there are health benefits that may be associated with some oils, ultimately in the long haul the negative impacts can outweigh the good. Here’s a resource that takes a look at extra virgin olive oil and it’s negative impact on arterial function.

    The tips in this video were good--great even. However, the science backing them up was bad. Every single one of her alternatives has saturated fat in them, and quite a bit at that. Saturated fat cannot be avoided. However, you can LIMIT saturated fat.
    In addition, fat is not bad. Fat is just one of the four macronutrients (the other three being water, carbohydrate and protein). There are different kinds of fat, too, and saturated fat is just one type of fat.
    Now, that said, is it a good idea to load up on fat? No, it is not. It is not a good idea to load up on fat because quantities matter as well as qualities. Is it a good idea to avoid fat? Again, no, it is not. It is not a good idea to avoid fat because there are beneficial fats as well as deleterious fats, and even the beneficial fats can become deleterious fats past a certain amount. The dose makes the poison. Is it a good idea to avoid foods containing saturated fat? Here again, no, it is not. It is not a good idea to avoid foods that contain saturated fat, at least in their entirety, simply because these foods also come with things that are good for, even in the plant-based space (you are probably thinking about meat here when talking about saturated fat, which is a forgivable thought pattern).
    Once again, you can limit saturated fat by both limiting the amount and frequency of consumption of foods containing saturated fat. You can also, by association, limit the amount of added oil you use in cooking, regardless of its fat composition. And yes, you may want to dial back or even eliminate the deep frying that you do (deep frying leads to other things that are not very good for you; that's a topic for another discussion).
    Otherwise, great video as always. Please keep them coming!

    Good quality unrefined virgin olive oil is one of the healthiest foods on this planet. It’s an important part of the healthiest diet on this planet (Mediterranean). It’s just loaded with polyphenols, vitamins and enzymes. I’ll never understand all this “oil-free” hype. Unless we’re talking about oils used in US, which are much lesser quality then EU oils.

      There is an oil industry. They would spread all kinds of stories to sell their stuff. Olive oil is not the reason for healthy people in the mediterranian area. Those studies are questionable. It's more about plant based than olive oil.

    • @CassyExploring
      @CassyExploring 7 місяців тому

      @@Ishana_Intuitive olive oil is just a juice of an olive fruit. You pick an olive from a tree, you crush it and it makes olive oil. Nothing super transformed or industrial about it. People around South of Europe are doing it for centuries - without oil industrials telling stories. It really IS a huge part of their health and longevity. When you check channels of vegan pioneers like "The Healthy Life" - they're all about olive oil. Even this new weird Brian something guy who puts millions per year trying to crack secrets of longevity is all about olive oil - he drinks a shot of it every morning. Fat restrictive diets are unhealthy and dangerous. Good olive oil is one of the healthiest fats on the planet.

      Here is what I keep hearing.
      It is empty calories. The thinking is why eat the oil when you can just eat the whole olive. Why eat the avocado oil when you can just eat the whole avocado.
      Olive oil is only considered as healthy when compared to other unhealthy oils.

  • @peterpiper487
    @peterpiper487 Рік тому

    Veggie broth has oil in it. And so do nuts, seeds, and avocado. Get real... When you use the right oil... olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil are fine to use. The only oils you should avoid are so-called "vegetable" oil, which are really seed oils and very inflammatory.
