Denethor gives the Monarch to Target Player, not Target Opponent, so you can give yourself the monarchy. This doesn't make the card amazing by any means.
I won a commander draft tourney using Marchessa and picking the worst deck at the table and making the deal that they could hit me and i wouldnt block but ill hit them back every turn. I had so many aristocrat cards in my deck that making tokens were very scary eventually. Nothing fast, a slow steady win that never looked like the biggest threat. And i made it into real commander deck. Ah memories.
I'm running Aragorn as a commander and I really have no trouble keeping the monarch even if he doesn't have haste you juste need to stack the deck with some enter the battlefield gives you the monarch swing and hit big plus he has vigilance and lifelink so you always have a blocker even if you swing
The deck seems powerful because of the heavy hitter cards. Meanwhile, there seems to be no coherent strategy and it’s going in a lot of different places. Too many “good stuff” cards and not sticking to a single strategy. It can probably get by alright due to these heavy hit cards, but then again that’s why they are what they are. Stay away from the shiny cards and keep the deck actually focused.
Forth eorlingas gives the monarchy for two mana if x=0
I will not stand for this denigration of Denithor son of Ecthelion, I believe I'll sit
I run Kenrith as my commander. Access to all 5 colors and it fits the theme
I think this would be a good commander if you new that you could get the monarch back every turn. It also introduces the monarch. So at very least, you can sack and then attack. It's also red and blue. 4 mana monarch doesn't sound so bad. You can also combo with alot of cards.
FOR DENETHOR, STONE SEER. Just realized I didn't say the commander, lol.
I really love the commander variant, where you just start with a neutral monarchy in play. It really encourages people to attack more so the game will actually end
28:40 "If Palace Jailer dies, it just does not come back." This is incorrect. Since the condition of the exiled creature returning is part of the trigger that exiles it ("(...) until an opponent becomes the monarch") and not a separate trigger like: "When an opponent becomes the monarch return it to the battlefield under it's owners control." the exiled creature will return when an opponent becomes the monarch, even if palace Jailer has already left the battlefield.
Yup, you can think of the condition as written on the card exiled 😀 as opposed to on the jailer
Fun walkthrough. Likely not for me but I'm not opposed to someone else wanting to play Monarch at the table.
farewell is indeed a bit expensive, yep thats why i dont run it in my marchesa lol but thats me a budget player. Farewell is indeed lot better tho
Lowkey obeka is the best monarch commander😂
I have a Nekusar Wheels deck, and I hadn't actually considered bringing in monarchy. I don't know if it really needs it, but I do often spend a bit of time politicking the table before I cast Nekusar - so I'm definitely going to consider if there's a spot for Starscream in the deck.
Honestly, if I built Marchesa, I'd probably go for a bunch of token stuff, tbh.
“Everyone’s favorite Lord of the Rings character Denethor” 😂
Love Marchesa. Sad to see Aragorn missing from this list, but Monarch matters just isn’t a big theme of most decks.
It was a tough topic for us to cover. Not a lot of options in general.
Surprised to see no The Council of Four in commander's that care about monarch.
I love this
