      It's just honestly sad that the dead kids weren't doing it on purpose to scare Finn, they all just couldn't speak coherently because they've been dead for so long.
      Only Robin could cause he still died quite recently.

    I adore this movie and the plot behind it. The idea of the past victims helping Finney/being protagonists instead of the typical angry evil spirits harming innocent people was really nice for me. Seeing the kids do their best to make sure another kid doesn’t die is really emotional. The last phone call with Robin killed me.

    • @colinbaldwin313
      @colinbaldwin313 Рік тому +145

      Yeah. That's what really makes it "a scary movie with a heart of gold." It's an inversion of sinister supernatural "hauntings." The ghosts are haunting Finney in order to save him from their own fate.

    I saw this in theaters with two of my friends. I had read the story and they hadn’t. During the scene where the killer is sitting in the chair with his belt in his hand, and wearing a belt, one of my friends remarked “he’s dual wielding” and the mom in front of us started laughing. The energy from the audience when the end scene of the killer getting killed was absolutely impeccable. Someone in the front row was yelling “that’s my boy!”

    What I love about Black Phone is that, not only is it one of the few horror movies that has a happy ending, but it's also one of the few modern horror movies I can think of where kids play a major role in defeating the antagonistic and/or evil force. The closest others I can think of is the IT movie series and Kuntlilanak on Netflix (and probably the Afraid of the Dark remake, but I haven't seen it yet to judge it well).
    Having grown up with kid-friendly horror media like Goosebumps, Monster House, and some of the '90s Scooby-Doo movies, it warms my old heart to see horror movies with uplifting and empowering stories, especially for kids.
