Perfectly explained on how to use the forearm crutches. I had been using the traditional crutches after my calcaneal fracture, but after watching this video I have switched to forearm clutches, which give me a good balance and ease of movement. Thank you very much for this video and I am sure, its going to help a lot more people.
'The good goes up first and the bad go down first' so helpful. I often confuse n rethink in the stair situ despite having used crutches on n off for three years. Helpful, thank you!
These type of crutches have given me a lot of confidence back. I have severe balance issues from a vestibular condition and have previously been using a cane, canes, or a roller walker. These gave me the support I needed while being able to keep my head straight, as up and down motions trigger vertigo spells. Much easier to take with you and use than the roller walker which felt like having another human with you and I needed my husband to keep putting it in and out of the car. I recommend these to anyone with vestibular issues who is struggling with just one cane.
A different video made it sound like you had to be quite fit to use these. But you mentioned balance issues so I'm assuming anyone can use these. How are they on carpet?
I have a rollator, but my husband hates to manhandle it into the car, but I will use it when I need to walk a lot when we go out so that I can sit as needed, however, ordinarily I use two canes, as they are easier to manage getting in and out of the car. I also have vertigo that comes and goes and since my canes are wearing out, I wondered what the differences were between two canes and these type of crutches.
I'm a physically abled person designing a character with a below-the-knee amputation on their left leg and this is *incredibly* helpful to see, since the main person I watch for information [Footless Joe] doesn't know how to use these currently, and I think that the character would mainly use these to get around outside due to their cut-throat and snowy forest environment making the more commercial crutches too slow and heavy. The proportions of where to have the handlebars and arm-holders are especially useful in my case, since I'm not animating the character [it's still good to see how you move for fluidity reasons though, so it's all very useful]. Thank you for uploading this because it doesn't only assist those who use these; it's assisting artists and writers who want to use disability in their works more accurately.
It would be good to keep in mind that you shouldn't be using these crutches on wet, slippery surfaces. So you might want to make some in story adjustments to the crutches to make up for this if you want it to be true to real life physics haha.
I just received the exact same forearm crutches and your video was the perfect place to get started using these. I am a recent AK amputee and have had my prosthetic device for only a month. I was tired of using a walker on carpet at home. Stairs are impossible to climb or descend using regular crutches without substantial help. Your video is very well done. Thank you.
Thank you very much! I just recently tore my Achilles tendon and have been struggling with all the parts that have been mentioned in this video when using my forearm crutches. Much appreciated!
I have ehlers-danlos syndrome and falls are very dangerous to me due to a left knee that is messed up my left leg can give out on me randomly. Normally I have a cane during the Spring Summer and Fall alongside my kafo brace they work perfectly, however during the winter with the ice and snow my cane frequently has slipped out from underneath me and my doctor has recently prescribed forearm crutches and shown me a ice tip I can use with them for the winter to immediately stop Falls, this video is absolutely perfect for me as I've never used these type of crutches before thank you!
Great video, I have a pair of these crutches, and they are SO easy to use. I did not know about the 3 finger space between crutch and elbow. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏼😀
Very good video. I have Charcot foot on my right foot and diabetic left foot ulcers from a Ruptured Achilles’ tendon surgery that rubbed on my foot. I’m having it a below the knee amputation in two weeks. People look at me because I have a boot on my right foot and I have a bandaged left foot. I use the forearm crotches and it’s to keep my left foot up and I walk on the boot. I didn’t mean to write a book message to you so sorry. Good video 🙂 Cheers
We'll explained how to adjust to the correct height. I was experiencing third and fourth finger numbness with the pair I had been given. Seems like they were one notch too low in height. I've adjusted them now, let's see how things progress.
Thanks for the video. I plan on getting some because my cane puts a lot of pressure on my upper joints which i also have pain in. Theyd also keep my other leg from hurting due to being overworked. Im gonna do more research on them to make sure itd actually help more than my cane but so far i think they would. I never knew about the measurements for them.
Can i walk long distance with crutches i mean i can walk on my own but not too much lets say i can walk half kilometer a day after that my leg just give up because i have OI type 1 weak leg because my femur has been fractured 3 times in right leg and 1 time in left leg
I’ve been on crutches for several months now and I don’t know when I’ll be able to stop using them should I buy forarm crutches I feel like they will be much more comfortable and much less tireing
Lofstrand or Canadian metal crutches are stùrdy and heavy. Only work for patients about 5 foot 3 to 5 foot 9 inches. Always very expensive yet clamp and bushing eliminate clicks.
all these videos show the patient in short sleeves, easy to put your arms through the crutches loops... UA-cam is a global platform, and we don't all live in California or Florida with warm weathers... Many of us live on cold climates, wearing lots of clothes and very heavy coats... How can we use these crutches if we cannot get our arms through the loops?
To me, this type of crutches is a pain in the butt. It's great that other people find them useful but I find them somewhat difficult and extremely cumbersome.

I know this is a 2 year old comment, but the way I always remember is "good leg to heaven, bad leg to hell" lol

Krystale Powers very happy to hear that you’ve noticed great improvement using these! Hope this video serves you well and is helpful!

I also use them when I get vertigo flare ups and they are great. Now I’m using it for both vertigo and a stress fracture of my foot. Double whammy 😅
Same I used a cane but it wasn't working. So I bought firearm crutches

Solved the back pain I was getting from the crutches how they were set at the hospital, thank you.

I want to get forearm crutches so bad instead of regular crutches

I never knew about the measurements for them.
just found this video. I have LARGE forearms, how so I adjust the cuff diameter?
Very well explained 🙏🏻
facing a lower leg amputation so have been wondering about that
Do you have any tips for using these to go up and down steps when you have active psoriatic arthritis in both knees?
I was trying to do non weight bearing with these damn crutches and fell and almost crack my pelvis and mess up my good foot !! 🤬😡😡🤬😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬
food4444lyfe ᑫueen βɪtch sorry to hear that! Make sure you consult with your healthcare provider!
Ouch!. Use normal crutches. Take care.
These are crappy for non-weight bearing. Do not recommend
How would you use them if you have weakness in both legs while standing/walking?
Can i walk long distance with crutches i mean i can walk on my own but not too much lets say i can walk half kilometer a day after that my leg just give up because i have OI type 1 weak leg because my femur has been fractured 3 times in right leg and 1 time in left leg
Should i put all of my weight on my ‘weight bearing’ leg and push down to lift it up?
Adam McWilliam clarify your weight bearing status with your healthcare provider before proceeding just to be on the safe side
Physical Therapy 101 okay thanks, your so helpful 🙏🏾
You are welcome hope it is helpful!

I’m none weight bearing. I ruptured my quad tendon. I’m struggling going up steps but ok coming down 🤪

How to stand up from a chair without armrests?
How i'll rcv this stick?
Bipedal walking with these type crutches?

@@Ishaan2122 AHAHA NOO my ankle is very much better now loollll I can’t believe this!! It was actually so painful!
@@somalisafro good to hear it man, I got a stress reaction in my tibia so I started using crutches but they hurting my palms Soo bad 😂
@@Ishaan2122 omg same thing happened to me! Try wrapping a soft material around the handle of the crutch
@@somalisafro oh ok thanks a bunch! I'll give that a try for sure!!
That's easy with a naked arm... But what if you are wearing a jacket or a coat, and it doesn't fit through the loop??
Thank you
Make sure to ignore any pesky banisters on stairs.
Thanks
You are very welcome hope this video helps!
Physical Therapy 101 yup it should be , I’m about to begin the practice, thanks a lot

All praise be to God because God gave me perfect nature.
Wow I'm so immature lol
You don’t need to use crutches to get in and out of a chair.
Thank you for the view, some patients require them for assistance
