It was very interesting to be able to see a game I have enjoyed for a long time organized from a foreigner's perspective. So happy someone decided to document this series. Ez2dj is actually an amazing series and it’s a shame not many people got to play it outside of Korea. It definitely was limping ever since its initial release, but you can see the passion and love poured in from the developers over the years. Sad to see the game die the way it did, but it still lives on as ez2on.
Just a tidbit of knowledge: Long notes in beatmania were specifically introduced in beatmania IIDX 17: SIRIUS. So not only did it take them until IIDX to do it, it also took them 17 versions of it (18 if you count substream).
iirc there were those weird long turntable notes in beatmania 7th mix, but even then those were never ported over to iidx until charge notes came along in sirius
That's funny. Imagine making a mode in your game which just pulls up the first version of said game which is literally sitting inside the directory with game files (and could be probably launched separately) for the sake of preservation (and for lols)

Kind of surprised the original EZ2ON was not talked about here. Though, one thing I heard was that Reboot:R had a scary early development... along with the horrible early access launch which I was there. We knew it was early access but it was wild how they delayed the launch for a couple more hours along with the game somewhat being playable. Seeing ez2on as the continuation for the series, I don't mind it, of course a lot of the AC stuff will be missed.
I remember the early access. In Korea it was released almost at midnight of the next day from the date it was supposed to be released, in my time it was almost noon. But I wanted to give it a second chance since I never got to play the AC version before.

My only experience with EZ2DJ was in a small theme park in East Java province in Indonesia. I was craving to play a rhythm arcade game and it was the only machine there. After inserting some coins and browsing the music list, I noticed the composers are familiar to me. "Holy shit... is this an arcade DJMAX with actual key notes!?" And I then proceed to enjoy the hell out of playing it.
This brings back so many memories since 1999, myself, I had on occasions played EZ2DJ series from 1st SE up until 7th Trax, (I liked 6th Trax the most btw) the series has strange hype and appeal back then and is imo so much visually different (in style and charts) than Beatmania IIDX
There's something you forgot to mention: The 2021 RZ2ON version (Reboot:R), as its name suggests, it's a reboot of the original EZ2ON, that ran from December 2008 to October 2009.
The moment IIDX removed the 5-key assist mod as of Rootage, the EZ2AC series was about to release its final versions, putting an end to 5-key DJ simulation games. I just hope Konami revives beatmania III with new arcade (and possibly home) versions while taking a different approach at releases. IIDX is known for its yearly releases, but if beatmania III gets revived, making a game every two or three years would be more beneficial, allowing its player base to keep growing and give them far more time to play these arcade versions before a new one comes out. This was the problem with yearly releases of IIDX, and I remember a time when my chauffeurs simply refused to take me to Round1 to play more of that one IIDX version before it got replaced weeks after. (That was when Epolis replaced Resident.)
Fun video, thanks. I've been enjoying rhythm games from Korea since finding DJMAX Fever on a very short timed UK PSN licenced deal. The genre distribution of the songs in this work strangely overlaps with Beatmania Complete Mix. The genre distribution of the songs is similar, as well as the difficulty distribution of the genres. Especially Do You Remember? It can be seen that the influence of e-motion is strong for Rave as a genre . Otherwise, there is no reason to present rave as a genre rather than a music genre. Comparing the genres of the songs in Beatmania Complete Mix and the songs in EZ2DJ 1st is as follows. Although it is not related to the recorded songs, the system that allows you to play a specific song on the next song only when you pass a certain score on a specific stage is also influenced by Beatmania. ||genre||Beatmania||EZ2DJ|| ||Hiphop||[[u gotta groove]]||[[Get the beat]]|| ||Dance pop||Believe again(English in Korea)||[[Look out ~Here comes my love~]]|| ||Reggae|[[Jam Jam Reggae]]||[[You love the life you live]]|| ||Break-bts||2 gorgeous 4U||[[Mystic Dream 9903]]|| ||TECHNO||OVERDOSER||[[Minus 1]]|| ||Ballad||[[Do you love me?]]||[[Yes Yes]]|| ||Funky Jazz||Stop Violence!||[[Funny Funky]]|| ||House|[[20,november]]||[[Stay]]|| ||House||wild I/O||[[I've Fallen]]|| ||Rave||[[e-motion]]||[[Do You Remember?|Do You Remember]]|| ||DnB||[[Super Highway]]||[[Quake in Kyoto]]|| ||Bossa/Samba||La Bossanova de Fabienne||[[Confete]]||
I know ez2dj got imported by people. I know it’s a lot harder than Japanese arcade cabinets. I would love to play it since it’s a unicorn rhythm game here in the US.
They had no choice but to do that because they couldn't modify the I/O board hardware and the driver for it in any way. And making something new entirely was out of question because it would've taken too much money and resources, and this whole team barely managed to update the game itself to keep it alive.
Woooooooow, what an involved history for EZ2DJ! It was interesting to hear that some familiar artists from DJMax (ND Lee, xxdbxx, and Forte Escape) had done stuff for EZ2DJ, and speaking of DJMax, it was also interesting that some peeps on the EZ2DJ dev team broke off to start that very series! ;u; Also holy heck, the development cycles *were* wild, but I agree that it's cool (or dare I say, kool) that the series lasted as long as it did! Nice retrospective, the cinematic opening was neat and overall this felt like a pretty extensive dive! :D
I've seen one of the machines when I was in Korea. Pretty bizarre to see a relatively new game still running on a CRT monitor despite all of the new arcade games these days use LCD TVs. Was the hardware update didn't include monitor upgrades?
i dont have any nostalgia for this game but i do enjoy ez2on reboot, so this was a fun watch. it is so surprising that the game persisted for as long as it did with all the hurdles
This game is fun. It's like IIDX but much more approachable, not unlike DJMax. I played it on my China trip almost 20 years ago ^^ (I'm a terrible IIDX player, heheh)

Amazing video, now i really want to know what happened to the two previous ez2on attemps, other that their failed due to unrealistic revenue plans… who develop them if amuse world/square pixels were busy with the arcade releases… also, wasn’t s3 china exclusive?
Space Mix is basically the 14 Key mode. 14 keys, two turntables, no foot pedals because that would be a bit TOO Insane (although that didn't stop them adding andromeda mix into Codename Violet 2 later on which is all 14 keys AND both food pedals as a literal joke mode)

Ez2Dj, my beloved~
i did not expect the ez2 monolith of a video this is hype
Congrats on the 5.73K subscribers!
It was very interesting video and your analysis was great too.
I hope to known EZ2 Series to other people in the another country.
When I travel overseas, I have never seen EZ2 Series, however I hope that it will be widely known so that many people can see EZ2 Series many other countires in the future.
Thank you for making excellent video.
This video is amazing to watch! EZ2DJ doesn't seem as easy as we expected...
You should check out Rhythm Nation. It’s a Pop’n clone by ICE that’s pretty fun. It’s also the only rhythm game within a 70 mile radius of me so I’ve played it a lot.
Absolutely stellar video. You really did justice to the series. Amazing stuff
Man these games did not care about epileptics
I hope the arcades were well lit
Rhythm games arent for people with epilepsy wtf
Early games and songs hate epileptic sensitive people.
CRT screen
@@porlock_the_lock Oh yeah, I forgot that CRT screens make flash effects look way better
Amazing documentary as always!
Waiting for the RockFever one 👀
Yes, I would love to see a Rock Fever one someday too!!
So far, we have 2 IIDX clones from two competing countries outside Japan.
dropping this video just in time for kamui in respect v? #nooticing
Although it is not related to the recorded songs, the system that allows you to play a specific song on the next song only when you pass a certain score on a specific stage is also influenced by Beatmania.
||genre||Beatmania||EZ2DJ||
||Hiphop||[[u gotta groove]]||[[Get the beat]]||
||Dance pop||Believe again(English in Korea)||[[Look out ~Here comes my love~]]||
||Reggae|[[Jam Jam Reggae]]||[[You love the life you live]]||
||Break-bts||2 gorgeous 4U||[[Mystic Dream 9903]]||
||TECHNO||OVERDOSER||[[Minus 1]]||
||Ballad||[[Do you love me?]]||[[Yes Yes]]||
||Funky Jazz||Stop Violence!||[[Funny Funky]]||
||House|[[20,november]]||[[Stay]]||
||House||wild I/O||[[I've Fallen]]||
||Rave||[[e-motion]]||[[Do You Remember?|Do You Remember]]||
||DnB||[[Super Highway]]||[[Quake in Kyoto]]||
||Bossa/Samba||La Bossanova de Fabienne||[[Confete]]||
God bless Fox-b
I know ez2dj got imported by people. I know it’s a lot harder than Japanese arcade cabinets. I would love to play it since it’s a unicorn rhythm game here in the US.
I enjoyed that video clip of the dancemaniax dancer lmao
bro was KILLING IT
Imagine using Windows 98 and XP and ISA cards in 2020.
They had no choice but to do that because they couldn't modify the I/O board hardware and the driver for it in any way. And making something new entirely was out of question because it would've taken too much money and resources, and this whole team barely managed to update the game itself to keep it alive.
@@Refon94ngl, the fact they managed to make it work is astounding and really impressive.
@@Refon94"""team""" you mean 1 person
@@Refon94 Thanks for the lore.
And by the way, would it be possible to run it on a modern PC or at least a shitbox? Just wondering

Woooooooow, what an involved history for EZ2DJ! It was interesting to hear that some familiar artists from DJMax (ND Lee, xxdbxx, and Forte Escape) had done stuff for EZ2DJ, and speaking of DJMax, it was also interesting that some peeps on the EZ2DJ dev team broke off to start that very series! ;u;
Also holy heck, the development cycles *were* wild, but I agree that it's cool (or dare I say, kool) that the series lasted as long as it did!
Now do Crackin' DJ, I dare you
They could've just spelled the title differently to get around copyright
bro is preserving video game history for posterity
hope we see a vid on EZ2Golf one day
So this wa the KoF of rhythm games… an in, it just refused to die.
as a fan of ez2on this was a really fun and informative watch
thank you i've been obsessed with this game for years
A history full of "Why won't you die?!", indeed.
Thank you for your dedication!
This video should be translated and seen by people all over the world, not just in English.
is there a Subtitles offered?
This game is fun. It's like IIDX but much more approachable, not unlike DJMax. I played it on my China trip almost 20 years ago ^^
(I'm a terrible IIDX player, heheh)
i remember 1 branch of timezone philippines has this but sadly later removed in 2015-16 all i know

wow, you covered this topic reall in-depth! Great job! I would love to see a similar video about jubeat. I used to play Jubeat plus on my mom's phone when I was younger, but I know there used to exist a physical, arcade version aswell, and I think it's a really interesting topic
AC Jubeat still exists.
For now.
Losermanwin's Magnum opus. Mind blown.
I didn't know about this game but this video made me appreciate it more and I hope I can at least try it in the near future
I think you say According to namuwiki like 50 times
While potentially annoying, it is also very important for him to note this because namuwiki is a... weird source as stated at the start of the video.
I love your videos man keep up the good work you deserve more

Sooo EZ2DJ is basically korean beatmania III?
bmIII released almost a year later than EZ2DJ 1st. It would be more accurate to call EZ2DJ an attempt to make beatmania but better. Of course, Konami didn't like that at all.
@@Refon94Isn't there a borderline confirmed theory that beatmania III was made specifically so Konami could sue AmuseWorld?
@@Jono997 yeah, in the same vain that popn stage was made to sue andamiro/pump it up iirc
But as for PIU Konami didn't succeed.
More like Ez2Dj is Korean adaptation of beatmania + foot pedal.
Just started playing this game love it so far
I, for once, visited a defunct arcade branch that has EZ2DJ in it.
If only there was someone who preserve it...
the games for sure are preserved if you know where to look, not all of them tho

Now do, dead rhythm games - O2jam
It still has a long way to being dead
@@dealerofmelonsIMO, its dead, I mean its has been revived into a horrible thing only to be killed again.
@@thenistthedev It’s being revived again into something close to the original game, O2Jam Remix, it’s not dead until VALOFE stops development for it

Will you do a video on DJMax Technika?
My memorial game, Easy 2 DJ Box
I just wish that EZ2ON would Include the higher keymodes. I want to play something other than just DP BMS/IIDX DP. The andromeda mode looks really fun, but there's not a US cab available to even try it. Here's what I learned... Fuck Konami!
Scunammy you might mean.
@@marsoff9898 i think the correct one the fans used is "konmai"
@@windowsxpnt2347 I came up with Scunnamy as in Konami + Scummy.
Amazing video, now i really want to know what happened to the two previous ez2on attemps, other that their failed due to unrealistic revenue plans… who develop them if amuse world/square pixels were busy with the arcade releases… also, wasn’t s3 china exclusive?
CAN YOU REMEMBER EZ2DJ?

dead rhythm games - pop'n music
what is space mix?
Space Mix is basically the 14 Key mode. 14 keys, two turntables, no foot pedals because that would be a bit TOO Insane (although that didn't stop them adding andromeda mix into Codename Violet 2 later on which is all 14 keys AND both food pedals as a literal joke mode)
Two turntables, 10 keys, 4 effect keys.
All of them are used to play Space Mix(14K Maniac).
