Thanks, Timmy. This version was a surprise to me this month -- I fully recommend the whole album. I previously had Red down as 'that Blue Note house pianist guy', but he holds his own against Coltrane on They Can't Take That Away From Me.
@@jazzlover06 You must mean "Prestige house pianist guy". Red never recorded for Blue Note, to the best of my knowledge. Glad you've discovered Red, one of the true piano greats.
This is great!! So you see the hands, hear the music and see the translation. Looks more complex than it sounds. Red is quite brilliant here. Amazing piano player.
This is so good Jacob! I'm a long time classical reader trying to move to jazz and it's not easy. It's not the chops but you have to think and feel this in a new way for me at least. Thank You so much! This will help. Best.
Well theres so much going on th righthand I see why u did this, it's a lot to absorb, I'm glad u did this, besides all th chords r there on top of th melody, great stuff, love it😍🎵🎹
Absolutely astounding! Thank you so much for the memorizing performance! Is there a name for that sort of free-formed style? I'd love to know if that is a direct style. You played it perfectly, thank you again!
These are incredible!! Could you please upload more? They are so helpful for me! Maybe ‘Please Send Me Someone to Love’ or another ballad by Red? Just a suggestion - love your work!
Damn I'd love a fingering guide for this, I've transcribed almost the entire solo on my own but there's a few spots that are kinda tough for me to play at full speed
One of my favourite pianists and what a solo!!! Your perform is great man! Bravo! Can I please ask you which program do you use for the real-time score? I’m looking for something like this for my students! Thank you :)
Thanks a lot! I'm hoping to release a new video next weekend. They take me quite a while to learn, record, edit, but I'm glad it's helpful to some people. I use Transcribe! for slowing down the audio and looping, DaVinci Resolve for the video editing, and Noteflight for the notation. I'll publish the charts on github next week along with links to the software sourcecode.
I am having a little trouble discerning whether the left hand comping is on the first and third beat or the first beat and upbeat of the second beat. Any thoughts?
@@jazzwest1 Thanks, I believe you are correct. Every now and then he hits it on the downbeat of one to anchor it, but not all that much. I have to tell you trying to play this solo with timing that left-hand comping on those offbeats is no easy task.
I usually do learn from notation first, but this was an intentional effort to avoid writing anything down until I had the whole thing memorised. Generally I'd recommend being able to sing each phrase, then play each phrase, then only notate once your fingers know what they're doing!
@@sydneylittle9399 playing the exact rhythm that they play in the left hand, and voicing, shows you the inner conversation the pianist is having, and lets you internalize his rhyhthm, guarantee you most of the spaces in the right hand are filled with some voicings.
Seeing hands playing the music I happily listen to every day made me happier. thank you🥰
My favorite red garland solo. Such clear and expressive lines, so simple but powerful!
Couldn’t agree more!
It's as good a tutorial in bop piano as one will find. Doing a few of those 2/5/1/s or 2/5/1/6s in all keys pays dividends.
Fantastic musicians. Thanks for thw upload.
Please never delete this, you are my only hope of learning this song LMAO
I like this song but haven't ever heard this version. The way you play it here is amazing.

Gee to watch such a gifted player is a privilege. And too, such a great song ... thank you.
Brilliant solo = Garland is such wonderful underrated talent - great transcription too
Thank you for your transcription work. Much appreciated.
J'ai toujours apprécié l'élégance dans le phrasé de Red Garland et ce solo n'y déroge pas. Excellent choix.

you are awesome. please keep on being awesome
I've watched this three times and it's still fun. Especially the triplets. 👍🏼🎶

Great transcription and better performance, already download it to study so I had to come back here and say: thanks a lot from Argentina!

Such a clean cover and amazing transcriptions! Keep going man
Awesome Jacob! Effortless chops.
Indeed effortless chops wow😍
Nice work on this fantastically tasty Red solo! Thanks for posting this!!
Just wanted to say Thank You for putting this together. It is opening up a whole new way of playing for me.
Thank you very much, Samuel. That means a lot; I hope it encourages you to give it a go!
awesome!!! thanks for making the score available and free, it helps a lot, thank you Jacob!!
I love love love this tune. This was 'outta sight' man
OMG. There is so much finesse and nuance in his phrasing.
Love Red Garland, nice work!
Good to see this transcribed, thank you. Using this to study, every bar is great!
please continue in this format👌👏👍
Such a nice solo. Loved this transcription!
Seriously great stuff mate. Nice!
Thanks dude!

Muchas gracias Jacob good work!!
Thank you for the transcription! I've been wanting to transcribe the solo, and you make it easier for me to learn
Beautiful
Great job!
01:06 you can see an E natural on a Cmin 7th chord. Other stuff around makes it work OK. He did it again too.
Thanks...nice

Thanks, Charlie. Great suggestion. Ballads can be a real challenge to transcribe, but I'll have to sharpen my teeth at some point!
👍 perfect
It's like Bud Powell but slowed down to a rational humanly achievable speed. Nice work.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Terrific soloing - and a great transcription, thanks for sharing! Can you post the transcription as a pdf? That would be great.

well played and great transcription Jacob, what are you using for piano sound, sounds great!
Thank you very much. May I make a request for the next one? It's in a style you should like: Sonny Clark's solo on Sonny's Crib.

Please Jacob, the left hand?👍🏿

Very Good, What i have to play to the left hand ?

what is the left hand here?!!? can you please make a video
Tutorial plss
Any chance we could get a transcription of the intro?
¿Where’s the comping? Remember, the pianist use always the two hands. Great Job :)
It's on ALL the off-beats as Garland always does 😁😁😁
I am having a little trouble discerning whether the left hand comping is on the first and third beat or the first beat and upbeat of the second beat. Any thoughts?
Most of the time it’s on the and of4. And the and of two

Did you learn it by ear first, or learn from the notation?

i hear more when you note C-7 ..G07 C7b9 instead
Sounds like pre-bebop, or "preBee" for short. 😆
What about the left hand, Jacob? Didn't think it was important? Big mistake!!
he gave chords so if you’re a jazz pianist you must know how to play the chords and the pattern you hear!

L.H. full chords and different voicings are hard to transcribe..
