I’m guessing when your proficient at making tongs....its second nature to make 2 pieces identical 😂. But seriously, this video just gave me a simple solution to a problem I’ve been overthinking. Thanks Glen. You da man
Nice job. Think I might have countersunk the top side area of the rivet so a pot would set flat better and the rivet would be really stronger. Just my opinion. Good job thou, take care and God bless.
It's a good idea - I can understand your logic. But the feet are actually higher than the rivet on both sides (hard to see). But a countersunk rivet would look better... Thanks.
that came out really nice! I wasn't sure how it was going to work, but either that pot is huge, or the trivet is smaller than I was imagining. fun to see the bending jig at work again. the overhead view at 1:30 was a great angle, too.
Some have criticized the overhead view but I also like it, sometimes... I think the trivet seems larger than it really is - my anvil and fire being small... Thanks.
Glen: Two questions: 1) Why did you use a flatter or other tool when setting the central rivet rather than just the hammer? 2) Wouldn't it have made sense to counter sink the legs and the central rivet so that the legs and the rivet heads would be in a single plane? It seems to me that the trivet would be more useful with a uniform surface. Having the legs and rivet proud makes it more probable that something set on it would tip. Good video and good, pleasing design.
Nicely done! Just a second before your "mistake" I had thought to myself "I wonder if it can be backwards....?". lol The reason that thought occurred to me is I've done the same type thing so many times. You did a nice recovery and kudos for not editing it out. Thanks for posting.
It is certainly possible but it would have been difficult for me and probably distorted the center of the piece too much. But definitely something worth trying. If I ever get back to using coal, I will do more forge welding. Thanks.

That's a really neat design. You pallet and dies worked really nice in bending the scrolls. What a wonderful artistic mind you have Glen.

That bending jig is so awesome. Makes work easy. Well made trivet. 👍👍👍
I'm really liking my bending jig. Keep thinking of new uses... Thanks.
thanks for all the videos! I really enjoy your approach to the art of blacksmithing.

well for my part, it gave me a much clearer idea of what you were doing this time.

I also like this set of tongs you have in this vid.. Aptly made and looks good to precisely handle the material well.

Very nice design. I like the bending jig too. How about making the four feet and rivet from brass or copper instead? Might be an interesting contrast.
That's an excellent idea. The feet and rivet would have looked great if made from copper or brass. Next time... Thanks.

while its still hot if you rub a brick of bees wax on the steel it'll protect it from oxidation
Yes, I used to use beeswax on pieces. A good traditional finish. Thanks for the reminder.
