Gigged with the Zoom G3 this past weekend. I only used it for trem, phase, chorus, slapback, acoustic emulator, and a envelop Filter (no dirt or amp simulation effects). I loved the layout of the peddle and the quality of the sounds. Even my die hard "no effects" buddies think this thing makes sense and sounds great.
Great detailed review!! Very much appreciated BECAUSE I bought this NEW 3 years ago on clearance for cheap BUT never had a chance to use it. Just getting to explore it now and your demo makes me feel more confident in understanding this unit.... THANKS !!
I have got to say - this is one of the BEST demo videos I have seen... Right mix of info and great playing demonstrations. I am very curious about this pedal - even if it had a quite decent reverb (seems too) and a useable delay it would be worth it to augment my live setup. DSP is really getting up to speed these days. I always look for simplicity, flexibility, and musicality, and this seems to have all three!
This is really the info I needed. Easy to understand and in a real-life setting. You just saved me a lot BS at the music store. I'm SOLD on it. Thanks.....
actually you can get all of that . there are some "pedals" that combine two effects eg. chorus/reverb, chorus/flanger etc. the amp simulators all have choice of cabinets. but you can always use the g3 in a chain with other foot pedals for more combos of effects.
I am amazed at the things that these stomp boxes can do. When I used to play back in the mid 60's to the early 70's we were limited to a fuzz box, wah wah, maybe a treble booster, a phase shift, and voice tube. Being the proud owner of a Silvertone amplifier from Sears which had a negative tone and needed all the help it could get. Anyone remember the Fuzz Face?
I'm using my Zoom B3 for live performances and as such I've ditched my analog equipment. To each his own. The newer Zoom units for guitar and bass are serious pieces of equipment with serious tone.
I got mine and absolutely love it on a Marshall MGDFX50. Modulates Mesa's Mark 4, 5 and the Rectos with Dist or OD in front of amp model. Played for hours...
FYI, When switching to the tuner...if you hold the center down for 3 seconds, it will MUTE as you tune. This is not shown, and probably unknown by the demonstrator in the video. It is also not in the manual...I stumbled on it by accident. VERY USEFUL in a live setting.
It's a really good pedal, doesn't sound "digital" at all on my Marshall, sometimes you can get really good tube sounds, but you have to take time to figure out the order of the effects because you can get either awful or awesome sound from the same effects
One thing that I love about the Zoom G-series pedals is being able to connect an external pedal to control the drums (on-off). Lets you shut off the drums with your foot when the song ends. Would like to see 2 Control-in jacks so we could use one for the drums and the other for the controller values (wah).
This unit would be perfect for me if it had a MIDI out that would sent patch # changes to my PSA 2.0. Right now I use an MS-50G at the end of my board to handle noise gate, reverb and modulations, but I can only realistically use 3 different patches with the single-pedal switching on the MS-50G
yes it does! it has a USB out and it actually also comes with Cubase which is better than gargeband. But if you are used to garage band you can use ti for that as well.
Such haters all the time. If you arent happy then dont watch. Youre just putting people off buying this. For the price this is great, and most people will be happy with it
The firmware update to this allows now up to 6 pedals/plug ins. Be careful when getting an external expression pedal though as the internal calibration doesn`t work for it ( which is daft ! ) so many expression pedals will be useless, I expect the official Zoom one works though.
I want to use my G3 with an amp. What do I set it to to use with an amp and what do I set it to to go direct? And where do I find the place to set that? My amp is an Acoustic Image which is solid state More like a PA. Should I still set the G3 to amp? Or should it be set to direct since the amp is solid state? thanx for your help.
@AcousticBruce I'm placing my bet that if you pushed the "global" button it would have the all encompassing level/volume adjustment you're looking for.
Well. one price that I saw for the unit out here in Australia was listed at $379 AU, I don't know what overdrive pedal you are thinking of but that's definitely a little more than I am prepared to spend.
Es un muy buen pedal, totalmente recomendado. La única debilidad que le encuentro es que solo se pueden 3 efectos simultáneos, de resto es de lo mejorcito !
Did I miss something?…the Zoom G3 has up to 6 pedals!…not just 3!!! which can be scrolled back and forwards and even change direction of pedal flow from right to left etc…the marshall'59 is the only amp sim i've come across that actually has the correct attack and sound of a real Plexi amp!…I've got all the Zoom G series, I keep the G3 in my gig bag as a back up!…to the G5 and a Zoom MS50G to put in my pocket when I go to jam sessions using other peoples amps etc…all my Boss and Digitec stuff has been sold on! d;-)
Yes, actually you can. However, the amp and cabinet sims are quite nice and realistic, especially if played through headphones, monitor speakers, direct to the Front of House board via XLR and/or into your power amp and neutral 1x12 cabinet.
Actually, I've owned the Zoom 505, G1 and G2 and this Zoom B3 is more than just an upgraded... it is a whole 'nother unit. Zoom has come a long way, you should reconsider your opinion.
Great vid. Kind of leaning this way but I didn't get how the T scream & FD amp was all the DSP it could handle. Pretty new to this stuff so I hope I have the terms down right.
I have a pod hd500 and have owned a zoom g2nu and I like the zoom sound wise at high volumes. You can adjust the pods effects more and do more with the pod. But zooms interface is easier and its true bypass. The pod hd500 muffles your tone and cuts your volume slightly.
@abadmancheno Una vez lo apagas se pierde el loop. En cuanto a capacidad de grabar loops, es uno y sobre eso vas grabando las otras pistas. La memoria es de 40 segundos máximo y si le das la opción UNDO, se reduce a 20.
wow that is twice the price it is here in the US (I bought mine online for $170). There are many single effects that cost more money than that. But FYI they updated the firmware so you can have 6 effects running, which makes the maxed out DSP issue pretty much irrelevant now
I am looking to put a multi-effects pedal in my pedal chain for live performance. I am focused on the Zoom G3 ($200) versus the Line 6 M9 ($400). How do you think they compare?
Nikko G. I just bought one a couple weeks ago. The firmware update has ENGL amp simulation that totally djents. I put a boost at 1.4kHz that really brings out that djent
@jccauseway I have the G3 and the M13, sound wise, the M13 (same as M9) is much better but the line6 has no amp simulation, if that's what you need. The G3 has some problems though --- the distortion/overdrive modules and the amp simulation (OD/Distortion mode) are really noisy; while its DSP power runs out with the HD reverb and amp sim combined. That said, the G3 is a real bang for the buck, so much feature for that price. However, if you can afford the M9, it is better.
@MAXhell91 Hi max, how about soundwise between g2.1nu and g2.1, i know g2.1nu has more amp and effect models, but i need to know they sounds at same amp, same effects and parameters
Anyone know what he's playing at around 15:00 ? And I have an old shitty zoom 606 and it's not too bad but the stompboxs sound cheap as fuck. I Just bought the G3X waiting for it. Thanks for the review, Definitely the best one I've seen. You covered everything precisely and I def enjoyed your playing but you didn't use the review as some lame way to show off. Awesome Vid!
I have a question, can you store your preferences in order? Rather than having to bend over to scroll through each time you want to go to another setting?
1. is this better than the G2.1nu? the prices are about the same. 2. How great is the direct USB? Does the amp sims sound good even directly in? would i have to rely on my own impulses? My G2 sounds bad when recording but if i mic it through an amp it sounds great. 3. Just overall Im upgrading from the G2 so should I go for the G2.1Nu or go for the G3?
@THEGUYD0WNTHESTREET if the m9 sounds better shouldn't he get the line 6? i would rather have a better sounding range of effects any day. and the m9 has more than you'll ever need anyway
Does anyone know if you can run the G3's looper through its own internal effects, or have effects + looper ,especially since it now can have six effects chained together ?
Plug it in ( USB ). Install drivers, Open FL Studio and make a track. it should take over as your main sound card. If not just go into your prefs and select it for recording.
So its still good for 2024… i saw 1 in mint for $60
I love the interface on this. The physical buttons give the analogue experience that I love.
Great detailed review!! Very much appreciated BECAUSE I bought this NEW 3 years ago on clearance for cheap BUT never had a chance to use it. Just getting to explore it now and your demo makes me feel more confident in understanding this unit.... THANKS !!

Sold all my pedals for this thing. I play it through a blackstar ht 20 studio tube amp and it absolutely shreds.
actually you can get all of that . there are some "pedals" that combine two effects eg. chorus/reverb, chorus/flanger etc. the amp simulators all have choice of cabinets. but you can always use the g3 in a chain with other foot pedals for more combos of effects.
bought my zoom G3 a month ago and it's really worth it. a very good partner for a live gig! 2 thumbs up ^^
I am amazed at the things that these stomp boxes can do. When I used to play back in the mid 60's to the early 70's we were limited to a fuzz box, wah wah, maybe a treble booster, a phase shift, and voice tube. Wow silvertone really ? I used to have the silvertone 1432 model with original wooden plank tremolo footswitch,,,wow
Ive been searching for a while for a video like this, thanks!
The Zoom looks like a fun toy to mess around with. The Line 6 M will give you really usable tones for recording of gigging.
Gf got me this for Christmas, god i love her sometimes. This thing is pretty amazing for 200 bucks.
Thanks for the review... I will be picking this up now that I have seen it in action.
I'm using my Zoom B3 for live performances and as such I've ditched my analog equipment. To each his own. The newer Zoom units for guitar and bass are serious pieces of equipment with serious tone.

Awesome demo Owen. Great playing too!
Best Gearwire review I've seen...which isn't saying much, but I would give this an 8 compared to other companies.

The tuner does mute the output if you hold it down for 2 sec. It mutes the effects if you hold it down for 1 sec.
Such haters all the time. If you arent happy then dont watch. Youre just putting people off buying this. For the price this is great, and most people will be happy with it
@imamnalog The big improvement is the amp/cab sims. The amp/cab sims on the G3 are as good (or better IMO) than the new POD HD series.
The firmware update to this allows now up to 6 pedals/plug ins. Be careful when getting an external expression pedal though as the internal calibration doesn`t work for it ( which is daft ! ) so many expression pedals will be useless, I expect the official Zoom one works though.

I just got a G3X (with the expression pedal), wow, it's a lot of fun!
Thanks for the robust review/demo. Very useful.
@JackHarperTv it has an expression pedal
CAn U program 2 delays at a time with this pedal?
@AcousticBruce I'm placing my bet that if you pushed the "global" button it would have the all encompassing level/volume adjustment you're looking for.

Chirch made me laugh... :D
Thanks for the video man! I think that I will enjoy this thing!!! A lot.
i own one now (G3X). its an amazing pedal you can add a traditional stompbox like mine ROUTE 808 tubescreamer.
i believe you could set up them in a channel and turn the all on that way but im not really sure
Great vid. Kind of leaning this way but I didn't get how the T scream & FD amp was all the DSP it could handle. Pretty new to this stuff so I hope I have the terms down right.

Thanks !!! Great video and great pedal!!I order it today!!!
@abadmancheno Una vez lo apagas se pierde el loop. En cuanto a capacidad de grabar loops, es uno y sobre eso vas grabando las otras pistas. La memoria es de 40 segundos máximo y si le das la opción UNDO, se reduce a 20.
This pedal sounds awesome with my amp, but when I use usb recording, it sounds rather thin and brittle. Anyone has any idea what the issue might be?
Do you have EQ in the chain?
06:20 - love this laughter. :D And love the G3 too. I'm going to buy it as soon as possible. ;)
wow that is twice the price it is here in the US (I bought mine online for $170). There are many single effects that cost more money than that.

let say i have another multi effect amp modeler but i dont like its effect, so can i use 3 simultaneous effect without select amp on the zoom?
Hi. I have noticed that on the back of the pedal board there are two buttons that say Balanced out. Someone knows what they are for. ??
That was a great tutorial brother. Thanks so much!
The manual says you can mute the output with the tuner if you hold it for 2 seconds.
Between the zoom g3x an the mooer ge200, which is the easiest to handle.??
Can u use it with no amp simulator on at all? Just using effects such as chorus, delay, reverb etc and plug it into the fx loop of your real amp?
Very good demo. Will this work through efects loop of an amp?
Thanks
Can we add expression pedal to it .. For stuffs like wah wah? Btw does it have a wah wah?
@jbealsmusic G3 is not yet available in Serbia so I can't test it . . .
Seems pretty capable. Is it possible to disregard the presets and put together your own patches - a user mode?
any similar demo for the ZOOM B3 (bass)?
thanks for your videos!
best wishes!
I am looking to put a multi-effects pedal in my pedal chain for live performance. I am focused on the Zoom G3 ($200) versus the Line 6 M9 ($400). How do you think they compare?
I bought one of these at GC for around $120.00 best deal I've gotten in awhile. Hands down better than my digiteck 355
@jccauseway i have the m9 but I'm very interested with this pedal
Best review, thanks.
Excellent demo. Im SOLD! Love it!
Amazing product, like the workflow a lot
The question is, does it djent?
Nikko G. I just bought one a couple weeks ago. The firmware update has ENGL amp simulation that totally djents. I put a boost at 1.4kHz that really brings out that djent
+A Catricala you r right
a pedal in the between of the guitar?
Hi can I add this stuff to my pedaltrain combining it with my analog pedals? THANKS
@jccauseway I have the G3 and the M13, sound wise, the M13 (same as M9) is much better but the line6 has no amp simulation, if that's what you need. hey, Can you show me how to make the "precount" apears on your screen with ZOom G3?
Plz help me! is this good for recording and does it work for garageband? wanna buy one!
@bookgui Cuantos loops se pueden almacenar? funciona como un loop station? o una vez que lo apagas pierdes el loop?
Does it have an EQ-pedal for solo boost?
07:38 yess! i can hear each tile deflecting the sound ;)
Can the same effect like T Scream be used two times at once ??
Anyone know what he's playing at around 15:00 ? And I have an old shitty zoom 606 and it's not too bad but the stompboxs sound cheap as fuck. I Just bought the G3X waiting for it. Thanks for the review, Definitely the best one I've seen. You covered everything precisely and I def enjoyed your playing but you didn't use the review as some lame way to show off. Awesome Vid!
I have a question, can you store your preferences in order? Rather than having to bend over to scroll through each time you want to go to another setting?
Yes, but you would be better served with the Zoom B3, designed for bass and has more bass specific effects, amp and cabinet simulations.
1. is this better than the G2.1nu? the prices are about the same.
Do a review on the B3 too please :)
@THEGUYD0WNTHESTREET if the m9 sounds better shouldn't he get the line 6? i would rather have a better sounding range of effects any day. and the m9 has more than you'll ever need anyway
can i program clean and lead/dist freelancers? a button for each one?
Can someone suggest a Patch of effects that sounds like John Petrucci's sound, please?
Yeah, but does it have a looper?
Does anyone know if you can run the G3's looper through its own internal effects, or have effects + looper ,especially since it now can have six effects chained together ?
great demo!
how much more would it cost you think?
Yeah -- you can plug in an expression pedal (he talks about it at about 8:45) or just buy the Zoom G3X which has the pedal built in for an extra $30.
Can you loop odd time signatures?
Can you slow the Tempo of the playback(half speed?)
So simple yet so amazing!!!
Porra... já tem no Brasil?
how many pre sets?
Any have this and find that it is TOO LOUD?!? Seriously is there a universal way to turn down the gain.. i am not going to edit each patch.
Plug it in ( USB ). Install drivers, Open FL Studio and make a track. it should take over as your main sound card. If not just go into your prefs and select it for recording.
Hi can you send a setting for any Shadows Hank Marvin sound which includes echo delay reverb please. Thankyou
is it true bypass when all three buttons are off?
is there a compressor in this unit? the video is too long and im too lazy to watch it
Is this good for recording, you know does it do like HD recording to USB into the computer?
can u add a traditional stompbox through G3? i mean link to HT-Dual-G3?
