- The remains of 'White O'Morn' cottage, the center piece of John Ford's classic 1952 movie The Quiet Man. The movie stared John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Barry Fitzgerald, Ward Bond and Victor McLaglen.
A really terrible shame for this Movie Landmark to end up like this. I’ve watched “The Quiet Man” dozens of times during my life and never finish without a tear in me eye for the absolute top notch acting and scenery, both of which, for me, haven’t been equaled since. Marvelous cast, including the extras of the village and the now legendary other great actors of the day. Sadly missed , all. The Golden Time of Hollywood.
One of my favorite movies of all time, sad that it is gone it would have been nice to see it still standing as it was in the movie.
The Cottage is still standing ( Intact) just Google it for yourself
@@lorrettacrowley5922 replica at Ma'am Cross... Replica at Ashford Castle. Replica bridge at Ashford also
I have always loved the movie. The first time I flew into Dublin over the stone walls I felt I was home.
I'm heartbroken. It's an absolute shame it's been allowed to crumble into such a state of disrepair.
I agree for many reasons.
Ah well. Wasn't the set of Ryan's Daughter levelled also.
we made it part of a Christmas tradition here in the states (kentucky) when I'm gone I hope my family carries it on.great video thank you very much
They should reconstruct the house x in memory of the film and John Wayne
I Absolutely love this part ! I love this movie and I love the people who made it
My aunt in Canada who's 83 can remember being in her grandmother's house in Kerry in 1944 and my mother was a baby at the time. The house is a ruin now.
How cool! I was lucky enough to visit ROI about 10 years ago. What a beautiful country. One of my favorite movies.
Thanks ever so much for filming and sharing this; bittersweet and yet heartwarming.
Found your video, well done! Love the movie! I went myself and took some videos & uploaded on UA-cam! There is nothing left from the cottage now! Just one wall! Very sad to see that!
Drone Girl there is a movie coming soon 'Connemara Days' about the making of the quiet man
@@longmemory1620 Has it been produced yet?
@@browningbelgium1705 not yet
They're missing a golden opportunity by renovating this cottage. It's a no-brainer and will bring in fans of the film and others. Such a shame it's been to go as bad as it is
Thank you so much for that. I weep.
Time goes on, with or without us
So sad to see this. Yes it was only used for a movie...but the spirit of the film and the cottage struck the heart in marvelous spiritual ways. To bad the man that owns it has neglected this national treasure. 😢
Great touching video, we all thank you very much!
1:01..I love seeing Wayan and O'Hara standing there on the rocks next to the stream. her just behind him, so much looking like a married couple. awesome..
Whatever about the state of the cottage, its when people come and steal parts of it that can't be replaced...
So sad that it is gone just like the house from " Giant".
such a shame its gone. I was there last year
Very nice. Thank you.
I was there in '96 and it was almost exactly in the same condition.
Such a good movie
I don’t get it.
The entire town is dedicated to the film. A statue, the pub, hotel... everything except the heart and soul of the film. No one kept up with it
the house is no where near the town of cong where the movie was filmed
Thank you.
??? The Cottage still stands, as I visited with my father ( even sat at the table) there is a local woman who acts as a guide, and allows you to take photos. It is very well kept and looks exactly inside as it did in the film.
The White-o-morn cottage is in ruins, it has been for some years, I've been there on a few occasions, what you visited is a replica, built especially for tourists, it's not the cottage that was in the film also it's nowhere near where the original cottage stood.
The importance of this cottage was over looked and forgotten
When I was in Cong, I asked about this cottage. The locals said a Canadian bought it, got sick, and never came back to keep it up and subsequently collapsed. They were trying to get him to sell it. Not sure what happened after that.
I to am heartbroken it was allowed get this bad typical of our government and country to allow this to happen visited few months ago with hubby who is big john wayne fan and always wanted to see he had tears in his eyes my heart broke for him he is really passionate about stuf like this I hope they restore it but don't be same
Just heartbreaking
Have a repro photo of the garden scene with John Wayne and Maureen O Hara
Definitely called stealing Pamela. It's the English language you know. We invented it. And only a yank would think of changing our own beautiful language. Homeric, a fine sentiment indeed. Bloody shame though, what a piece of history so badly neglected. Great and touching video. Thanks x
Not even a sign in memory to tell visitors. I don’t get it
It is on private land.... Owned by a Yank or Canadian. No proper carparking etc
How sad.
Do you know if the cottage was renovated? I watched a news story here on youtube about a renovation project that was supposed to start around 2014 or so.
No, ir has not. At least not in june 2017. Also its forbiden to waki in the plot.
I doubt it too 😊😊😊
made you proud and embarrassed to be Irish at the same time
It happens in everyplace. Greetins from Spain. (nice video )
To see it like this makes so sad it should be made to be rebuilt from john😂
Th3 blame goes on the Irish people for not looking after it
No Patty Fingers if you please!!!
It's an absolute scandal that it's left to go in to this state .. I suppose in 1 sense we're lucky that there's not a block of flats built on top of it seems to be the way things are done in Ireland these days 😢
Not only there
Just thinking the same thing. I like that it's become part of Ireland's history in this way. It doesn't need to be a tourist spot with a garish gift shop and massive asphalt parking lot loaded with buses.
A Canadian guy owns it and wouldn't sell it what I heard heard.
😤😤

how did the cottage get in to that state, its a shame and people taking parts of it ,its called steeling
sight seers stealing a piece of history apprently
The Irish love their English conquerors names in their street names in their cities but don't give a fig for their own Irish Irish history and culture.
I dont know about that. I was Imin ireland in 02, and most people spoke Gaelic, not english. Of course businesses did for tourists, ect.
@@johnjohnon8767 agree - I talked to people in the republic that seemed anything but good with current situation and stayed in the Europa in Belfast and saw on a notepad “get England out of Ireland” leading me to believe that this is far from over
