It's amazing watching this years after it aired and thinking those kids auditioning for Oliver are so adorable and small, when in reality I was even younger than they were when this was filmed and they're all grown now!
i wished she could have been a judge, if georgia brown (the first ever stage nancy) was still around, i’m sure that they both would have, they’re the original nancys
This show brings back so many memories! I’ve only realised now that Samantha Barks who I’ve just seen as Elsa in Frozen and Rachel Tucker in Wicked (one of my favourite Elphies and in Come From Away!) had starred in this Sat night show I was hooked
My sister and I were in the audience for somewhere over the rainbow. It was amazing. Also I managed to touch A L-W's arm as he walked past and was ridiculously star struck by it 🤩🤩
Katie Hall at about 23:00 and 34:00. Not a "Nancy" but what talent! 2 years later she would be Cosette to Samantha's Eponine at the 25th anniversary concert, both 19 years old then (17 here).
coming back to try and finish this series (Got distracted first time around) . Me around the 23 minute mark: Oh... it's the Cosette from Les Mis 25th anniversary! I'd seen that video before watching this and was wondering why she had looked so familiar. She's now in the promo's for the National Tour in clips where she was Fantine at some point as well. Even though I know she didn't make it past the boot camp this worked out great for her. Even though I know the results (and hope my brain will forget who the winners for Joseph and Maria are by the time I eventually get to those videos), still awesome to watch the journey of the winner (whom I will not name for the top spoiler) and a runner up ... was also in that 25th anniversary concert and the movie itself.
I used to think when I was a teenager (not that long ago) why I liked theatre so much and I couldn't put my finger on it, then i realised I grew up with this show and the other one webber made.
Rachel Tucker went on to play Meat in We Will Rock You, her standout role of Elphaba in Wicked alongside Louise Dearman, eventually becoming the longest running performer to play the role both in the West End and Broadway and recently, she played Beverly Bass in Come From Away both once again in the West End and Broadway before COVID hit last year.
Yup. As was the case with the other shows in this format too; after all, if you're truly serious about wanting a career in musical theatre, you can't just throw in the towel after losing a competition like this when you can use the experience as a springboard. That's a big reason why I miss shows like this (besides just wanting more musical theatre content on TV), they were absolute goldmines in terms of exposure for performers (both established and aspiring) regardless of whether they ultimately won the role.
Anyone else watching all these ‘finding ...’ series through 2021 lockdown? I’m really really hoping there’s every episode here for this because let me tell you, watching up til episode 10 of something only to find the last episodes are missing/blocked in this country/copyright struck etc etc is one massive pisser 😫
I've never known anything in my life with more certainty than when I watched this live and *knew* Jodie was gonna win... 100% knew and made sure to tell everyone
Such an iconic show. Rachel Tucker, Samantha Barks and Jessie Buckley have gone on to have spectacular careers.
Also Katie Hall, Niamh Perry, and Nancy Sullivan fellow ladies who auditioned also have good careers as well, think this show spawned the most talent
They werr better than jodie
These shows were gold
Yeah they were

Yeah same
Yeah they feel so homely.
@@af98 Yeah they do
I love love that they showed Shani Wallis and let her talk. She’s the BEST Nancy ever. If anyone is Nancy, Shani is. Always will be!

@@ghostoftheschiavona agreed even before Shani, Georgia created the role
"I don't know whether you should go through or not" - utter bullsh*t... he knew full well in that moment she was Nancy hahaha
I love how every time Andrew Lloyd Webber walks in they play the phantom's theme 😂😂😂
😆
Who here bow
This show brings back so many memories! I’ve only realised now that Samantha Barks who I’ve just seen as Elsa in Frozen and Rachel Tucker in Wicked (one of my favourite Elphies and in Come From Away!) had starred in this Sat night show I was hooked
Jodie stood out even in the auditions. Worthy winner.
Plus her laugh is contagious it make want to smile

47:16 is my brother who actually ended up being Oliver. Fun fact 😂
I can't help thinking these girls were lucky to have Denise instead of Kirsty, someone that builds people up with encouragement ❣️
Kirsty?
“Well I reckon Nancy was a bit of a sort” 🤣
Baby Katie Hall is the cutest thing ever
I love when you can hear a little bit of Scottish in John Barrowman’s accent.
Nancy: "My dad introduced me to singing. He wasn't an actor or something, he was..."
Me: "HAWT OMG"

56:49 practically NO samantha in this episodeee, producers had no idea how far she would go
They did. But they cant put everything in episode one, or it'll be boring for the viewer.
Let it go!
She was in a few bits when showing the nancy school segments and at the very end she's the one Andrew says could be nancy.
That mum running to her son hits differently now I'm an adult 😭😭
Omg the boy who plays Charlie in Charlie in the choc factory is in this!
Katie is my favourite Cosette, Christine AND Fantine! =D
Wish they could bring this back
Yeah I agree with that
‘I’m willing to take a punt’
Gets the part
I remember watching this when I was 6. I was so happy when Jodie Won!
Yeah I remember watching this when I was 11 and I was happy when Jodie won as well
I have no doubt many of those who didn't win this went on to other west end roles... samantha barks now stars as elsa
18 year old Jessie Buckley, now one of our leading film and TV actresses with a Bafta nomination and 50 other major award nominations under her belt.

They didn't know if they should put Jodie through- goes on to win the role.
@Abigail Carter Right? The 1st time that I saw her I immediately thought she was exactly what they were looking for.
From 41:03 on - And that's how Jodie won the role.
you could tell she'd got it from the way she said hi to the judges when she first walked on 😂😂
That's what I thought
Look at how far Jessie Buckley has gone since this!!
I was so excited to see her!

Is that Freddie High more in 48 minutes

No they are not

John B. has NO right judging anyone???
?? He’s played lead in numerous musicals on the west end and Broadway and has a successful TV career to boot...
I saw him on tour in Chicago and if he definitely was a good choice as judge
