  • I am a volunteer instructor at a fly fishing program for disabled veterans and wounded, injured or ill military members at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. The participants receive rod building kits and tools to complete their projects, and then fish the rods, along with the flies we’ve taught them to tie. We teach them to cast and fish rivers, lakes and oceans for trout, shad, salmon, steelhead and just about any sport fish in the salt.
I created this tutorial to support beginning rod building students our program supports across the nation. Today’s posted video coincides with the guide wrapping phase of their rod building projects and is intended to be a reference they can use at home after receiving one-on-one instruction at the regular meetings.

That looks like mono to me. To thick in my opinion. I use 30 to 50lb braid and never have a problem even on ultra light builds.
