    This worked GREAT!!! It was like magic. The trick was finding a tub to soak the oven racks in. Home Depot sells a 36" x 24" x 8" black plastic one for $18 and it works really well. We let the racks soak for an hour and they cleaned up extremely well and they look like new. Thanks so much for this tip, Don!

    I've watched several oven cleaning videos and this is the best one yet. I have a portable steamer that I'm going to try on them.

    6:33 why do they have to be dry to put back in the oven?
    Can I use a bathtub or will it stain the tub?

      You could definitely do this with just the dish soap and hot water. Make sure you aren't using any abrasive scrubbers like the sponges we showed. You'll just want to use the soft side of a sponge or a washcloth to wipe them down so you don't scratch them. A tip for cast iron too is you can use vinegar and baking soda to get tough grime off!

    Hi there, Are your racks Chrome? I have Chrome Electrolux Glide Racks. I soaked in tub overnight and there seem to be rust stains where the grids attached to each other (solder areas). Also, should the glide part be submersed? Will it lessen the effectiveness of easy glide?

    I 'inherited' my oven and while the oven racks are clean, they are not bright silver. A lot of the racks have a dull bronze sheen colour to them. Can these ever get back to bright silver?

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  Рік тому +1

      They can definitely be cleaned, but with age and use they will never fully be 100% bright silver again.

    A better paste is 1 c Dawn plus 1/4 ammonia and 1/2 baking soda
    Any tough spot with rotor brush - take outdoors and rinse with hose and dry

  • @Sheryl777
    @Sheryl777 Рік тому +3

    Maybe take the racks outside to hose them off with the sprayer. ..unless it's the middle of winter with lots of ice or snow outside of course lol.

    I’m trying the ammonia in the garbage bag. Then if it doesn’t work I’ll try this. It’s been a 3 day process with Brillo pads dishwashing pods, the blue dish soap they use for grease on animals. Nothing working. I scrubbed for 2 hours also. It must be the dryer sheets!

  • @landonhutchison

    After a quick towel-dry, why not put the racks back in the oven on 250 to evaporate the remaining water rather than letting them air dry on the counter or in the sink?

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  Рік тому

      You could do that! That's a good suggestion.

      Question… I left my racks inside oven when I used the self cleaning process… twice!! Now my racks are burned.. scorch looking… dark .. they are stainless… will this work to restore my racks??

    • @Bionicbabyy
      @Bionicbabyy 11 місяців тому

      @@loupennebaker2038sorry to hear that. In my booklet It says not to leave your racks in the oven during the self cleaning process because it may cause discoloring. I say try it and see what happens.

    What's the idea behind the dryer sheets? What are dryer sheets normally used for? Never seen this concept before.

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  11 місяців тому +2

      The coating on dryer sheets can help break down tough grease spots. The compound helps work against tough grime.

    Would it be safe to empty the dirty cleaning water down the drain or toilet, or should it be tossed outside? Would the dirty (greasy?) solution maybe lead to clogging a sink/toilet? Thanks!!
