Perhaps because they dont want to sacrifice half of the usable space of their new building. Also its pretty bad form to have a church inside your courthouse... if you dont keep church & state separate sometimes you end up burning witches. I understand theyre a little sensitive about that in Salem.
I caught that one too. They could NEVER pick that up with air, just not strong enough. That's why brakes on cars are still hydraulic. Wonder what this move cost? Five million dollars??
Why not build an identical one? Because it's not allowed under modern building code. Why not build a new one that looks the same but meets modern building code? Because the permitting process will take forever.
The relentless pessimism is a real downer. The consequences of even the slightest most trivial task are inevitably fatal. Thankfully, no witches were harmed during the making of the film.
Just a couple of questions... 1. Why didn't they leave the church where it was and build the new court building in a mirror image so the old church was the right wing instead of the left wing? 2. Wouldn't it have been a good idea to check the condition of the foundations on the lower and final resting place BEFORE they lifted the 1000 ton building off its foundations? I mean I don't know... I've never moved a 200 year old, 1000 ton church in my life but if anyone ever ask me to, I think those would be the first questions I would ask? Just saying!
The job itself is very interesting. The pessimistic and patently staged dramas are an unfortunate way of talking down to the viewers. At one point the hydraulic lifting hoses are referred to as airlines. They can't even get their basic facts right. Amazing feat to have moved this building without damage, but could the new courthouse design not be altered to include the church on its original foundations?
In the beginning, you showed the Witch and made it sound like she was "Cursing" the move, and that wasnt the case. You then showed her exercising demons. Why be so deceptive?
Why didn't they just change the new building plan as the way that it will include the church, so, they don't have to move and it will cost less..?
That was my first thought.

Because architects have big egos.
YOUNG old man jerry.very good work jerry,
What a great Documentary about moving heavy building well done to all doing the job also very very very well done to Jerry the head BOSS
Lifting a building with air pressure is so dangerous The reason the jacks are leaking OIL is because they are using hydraulics.

@@detroitbob58 Cost way tooo much taxpayer money. I bet. 🤦♂️👍👍

Nobody asked.
And those modern buildings are from inferior quality compared to historic buildings!
Great job ☺
Wonderful work! Bravo !!

They harmed enough of them back then to last forever.
Excellent💯👍👏 job👍
Hmm, trapped in a library by thousands of books- I can imagine worse things to be trapped by...
@Jalen Korbin no it didn't. You fake troll
I’d love to know the cost of the move relative to the cost of the new construction.
The witch should have blessed the taxpayers!!
Love these old doco's when they talk about the leaning tower in pisa and realise its fixing itself ....construction science and magic lol

There is a lot of if's and could's on these video's and a lot of maybe drama but not much happens luckily.
Some drywaller/plaster guys made a fortune fixing all the patches and cracks inside.

Nice job men...
anyone else thought that brake fluid was a massive puddle of blood at first?
9:45 ...Hahaha! 😂...had to laugh at that one. She is a bit much isn't she?
Just imagine the extent of the evil that was propagated in that building across time. Wowwww
All that for a new family probate court......
Next time put a gyro sensor inside the church so u can auto level the hydrolics!
Advice from a guy who can't spell hydraulics... I am sure you know more than a guy moving a 1000-ton structure.

Much hyperbole.

What a total waist of money. There are people living on the streets and they spend millions on this.
Plenty of money in the country to do both, if some people did not hog it all.
