To the gentleman with the black fiancé... don't be embarrassed to ask about black history. As an African American growing up in a predominately white area and attending almost all white schools I had never heard of Juneteenth either. Just growing up in that type of environment I was never really exposed to my own culture and history. When I left home at 17 and began to explore the world and started meeting people other than the standard black/white I learned so much from other ethnicities which made me want to learn more about my own history.

My family was incredibly rude and ignorant towards his culture and his family was very unwelcoming of a blonde, white baby into the family. It took years, but his family (besides his dad) has come around. My family, not so much. Recently had to cut them all off because of their reaction to my third pregnancy. It’s definitely been a huge struggle, both of us have felt super judged, but at the end of the day we love each other so much and I would die to protect his name.

I'm peruvian, my partner is chinese, we met here in Italy, where I moved in as a kid and he arrives here all grown up because of his passion for classical music, being an immigrant here, my parents were sure I could date a non peruvian guy, they were surprised they were all Asian guys but not shocked. I was lucky with my partner family, only child, nice parents, very humble, loving, caring, amazing people, I was pretty open minded since always and so into chinese language and culture so to me, it was fascinating to learn and confront our custom and culture, to find the similarities and the opposite aspects about both, I'm open minded with anyone actually, he was the one that have to push further his personality and to be ready to make a deal, for example, a simple thing, he didn't feel good when I offered him a meal or when I bought gifts for him as "he was the man" and he felt lost as he was use to the opposite back in china, with his exes.. or the fact that I took a cold bath after giving birth as, it's a period when u have rules to follow to heal ur body and regain ur strength, we just made deals and we confront each other, now he is pretty proud talking about our old dates when I was the one who paid the bills 😅 and he loves to talk about how strong I was after our two kids and stuff like that. We ha e two kids, half peruvian, half chinese, born in Italy and they are getting all I can offer them about both 3 cultures and more, our family, mine most of all, has a beautiful genes heritage, peruvian, Spanis, Italian, African, Mexican (about this one I was shocked), so kids are use to have this beautiful view of different shapes, shades and also my friends are from everywhere so they are getting use to feel at ease among them, we are different yet we are friends and family and that's beautiful.
Ps. I met mixed couples where relatives were against their relationship yet they were in a relationship with their boyfriend or girlfriend and not with the relatives, the point is, if he or she wants to be with u, u would know how much love there is even against the world, literally, we live once, we can choose to face anyone, even our family, to protect true love.

This video! Being a young black female and attending schools in a predominantly white neighborhood, naturally my first crush was white. And so began the phrase my father use to always say, “You better never bring a white man home”. I, of course, didn’t fully understand why at the time and therefore never took it seriously. As time went on, he kept saying it here and there especially when I went through my white boyband phase. Understandably, based on what everyone was seeing they assumed I only liked white men (friends and family) but I genuinely don’t have a type and don’t care about the color, ethnicity, etc. of someone. So that day I finally sat my father down and asked him, “would you really get mad if I started dating a white guy” and then to hear him say, “I don’t care who you date, just as long as he treats you right and you love him” made my heart smile. My father is definitely one of those old stubborn souls who can’t be wooed by the new avenues paved by this generation, but we have our talks and debates and not to say I’m ever going to change his views (not happening lol) but to come to a mutual understanding of both sides work for me.

Personally, I don't get pursuing a marriage with someone whose family feels even remotely this way. I wouldn't want to have children in an environment like that, or to have to explain family tension to my children, or to keep family secrets/cut people off. We can 100% control who we allow ourselves to fall in love with, especially as grown adults. All it takes is a question or two during the getting-to-know-you stage for this to come to light. Also, if I really respected someone and knew my family was like this, I just.... can't even imagine exposing someone to this. I don't want to be the reason why his family gets torn apart, no thanks. I also respect myself, my culture, and my heritage wayyy too much to subjugate myself to mistreatment. I wouldn't want to compromise my children's chance at having loving, warm, and trusting relationships w extended family. For kids, this environment just fosters so much potential for lasting trauma and hurt.
If the relationship is just for me, maybe a fling or friendship, that's cool -- but merging families? Too much drama. But to each their own.

Depends on how they react to it. A lot of ppl will cut their family off for not accepting their partner. That’s actually attractive (to me at least)

Shout out to Rachel because I’m literally experiencing what she’s experiencing with my white fiancés family. Many of you are quick to hand out criticism to people who stay in relationships despite their partner’s toxic family members, but don’t know what it’s like to meet the literal love of your life.
Some of y’all are quick to let your partner cheat on you 50 times but will stay for what you think is love😬

You have to think about your kids, though. And their parents raised your partner. I've seen that go south. I could have been in your shoes several times, but I let that pass me right by. I have a couple of family members that I think are traumatized from being with people from families like that as it still can rear up in their partner subconsciously so I wouldn't be with them unless they were woke and actively educating themselves.
