Chunky I agree with you completely!! I always look for a review from someone who's paid for the product themselves, not someone chucking something around because they haven't had to pay for it 😒 UA-cam moneterisation isn't that good, I demonetized my channel as I wanted it to stay my hobby and not become a business 😀👍

I am 67 years old and have always wanted to get into this Hobby for as long as I can remember. Well last year around this time I bought my first plane, an AeroScout. While doing research on what to buy I notice immediately what you have been saying. I couldn't believe anyone who made videos. Every plane was great and perfect for beginners. I reverted to forums and was able to get a better understand and make an informed decision. When I see they have no room to move because they have so many planes and they are reviewing planes that are on pre-order I don't believe a word they say. Thank you for saying what many of us feel. I now have 6 planes and no longer a beginner and enjoy flying immensely.

I love this comment. Your never too old to start this hobby. I just wanna teach what I learn so I can promote the hobby. Thanx for the great comment and keep em flyin'. BTW, a little selfish plug, watch my video on the failed maiden. It tells a good story of how me and my bestie met 👍

Thanks for the chat friend, I know what your talking about, and I usually shy away from "Yes" men!! Have a Blessed New Year!!

I learned right away that experienced flyers can make a brick look like the best flying plane ever. Some reviewers video the reviews after several flights developing their opinions.
Then there are the Cheerleader influencers that shoutout what a perfect flyer the XYZ Brick is right out of the gate. Happy New Year. Jeff in LA USA

That's true bud. I like an honest review. That's why I don't edit my vids and try to be true to my viewers. Great. Vid 👍👍

Hi Chunky, a well observed video, I occasionally get a 'gift' but it's either one I'm going to use in the workshop or a model I've wanted to own and fly. This is quite different to the channels you're describing of course, after a while you get to know which channels you can trust and which reviews are worth taking seriously, two examples I can give straight off is Bruce Simpson at X-Jet and RC Model Reviews and Adam at Model Aviator. Even Robert and Blaz at Petrinic Brothers have their own unique style of model review. It'll be interesting to see other people's comments, keep up the good work and happy New Year, cheers 🙂👍

Those that you call out (I believe) are genuine channels. Robert and Blaz have said many times that they will give an honest review. RC Model Reviews is another good channel. RCMR does some unboxing and test flights, but I feel he is aiming more towards the tutorial side of teaching RC and that gets a big 👍 from me. It will be interesting to see how RC channels in general will evolve throughout 2023 and the upcoming years. Thanx for the input

I think it’s the smaller sub 5k channels who do this more with fear of losing the sponsor who are trying to help them grow and build a presence. Been there myself and I have even been offered money to keep my mouth shut about bad products. Never. Recently did a vid on a rubbish $400 truck on my channel and I was happy to say it was terrible on camera. Growing on here can be incredibly hard and people get desperate. It’s unacceptable but takes place unfortunately

I agree with you bro. Jeff in LA hit it on the head as well with his comment. There's times I'll see a video and I'm like, there's no way that's a 9.5 out 10 plane 😡 but I've been in the hobby for a long while and know better. Also what kills me at times are some of these overly priced planes that get put on a platter when you can get a similar one for a better bargain and still a good plane. I do believe in you get what you pay for, but there's times when much better bargains are out there. One example, there was a certain 50mm jet that was released around $200, and the same plane was released under another brand for about $50 less. I didn't hear much about it, though.
    Happy New Year

The problem is they get stuff for free. So of course they think and therfore will make their products seem like the greatest thing ever. Because for them they got exactly what they want and it is the greatest thing for them personally, which good for them. But that's not representing the product their reviewing but more their attitude about having the sponsor. And they don't get that fact and it's frustrating

Jeff in LA said it best. I agree with most of your rant. I myself never want to be monetized or do reviews. I fly for fun and make videos for friends or by request. As far as any product review I never fully trust what anyone says so I watch 3 or more reviews on the product before I decide to purchase. If more than a few say its good it probably is, The E-flite EC1500V2 was beyond my expectations. Yet there are planes that have good reviews I do not like to fly like the Hanger9 funscale P-47. In my book it lacks power compared to other warbirds its size. Again that is my opinion.🎥🎬👍

I know exactly what you're saying here chunky. I have a friend thats sponsored and is usually pretty honest about the product reviews the part of it that gets me is after the review you never see the plane's again and then he will offer them up for sale at almost full prices. Thats the time when I will shoot a half price offer to see if I can score at a discounted rate. Not sure how you feel about that and I only buy plane's i want so not getting the stuff i don't want

    • @ChunkyC_RC

Getting a new plane for half price is down right smart. I would do the same thing. I guess the point of my video gets missed sometimes. Folks tend to think that I don't like those channels that are sponsored, but that's not true. I hope to be sponsored someday and I like watching quite a few sponsored channels. The difference is in the reviews themselves. It has to be an unbiased review that gives pros and cons. You and I know there's not a single plane on the market that is perfect. I appreciate a channel that will give me an honest review. They tell me what they like and don't like about a product, and maybe discuss any problems they had during the build. Conversely, if I see that every single video that the channel puts out is a "praise fest" about EVERY single plane that they are reviewing, especially if its from a sponsor, that's a BIG red flag for me. There's one particular channel that I absolutely refuse to watch even if it reviews the plane that I'm wanting to get. I know that he is a Horizon Hobby puppet and he will never say anything bad about Eflight planes. Sometimes it seems like keeping the sponsor happy and the planes rolling in so the channel can keep generating revenue is more important. That's my point of the video and I would just recommend being attentive to who is doing the reviews.
As for your friends channel, if he's giving unbiased reviews and telling the good and the bad then he's doing it right IMO. You never know, he may be one of the channels I watch. Thanx for the sub and the comment. And letting me go off on this lengthy rant

Biased reviews are all positive shows lack of objectivity. For example brand x rtr is so awesome in every way when the truth is the transmitter is a chintzy pos

Some channels are like this unfortunately, I guess it’s because they can make a business of it. But that’s when people like me and you and many I watch come into it, we will always give the truth, If I don’t like something I will say it, at then end of the day, RC can be expensive and I would hate to tell people to get the product if it was crap. Have a great New Year’s Eve buddy 🫡
