Honestly once 2:50 kicked in I thought I was on the final level.( even with the stage indicator) the music was so powerful at this point, along with the city fading in the backdrop.
Everyone talks about the elevator part but the music is a masterpiece as a whole. The transition between the sauna and the locker room at 1:46 is brilliant. It's fantastic to see how much effort was put into it, you can see every special enemy entering on the screen as the music goes.
the build up of this music is just completely insane , starts funky like style then it goes on and on and you actually feels progressing through the stage by the music alone. man that scene on the elevator, WOW.
I've got a theory that this song is based on the past SoR games, the Sauna music being based on SoR1, locker room is SoR2, and the lounge is SoR3, with the elevator being sor4
My new game demo starts at 3:33 with the monologue, and then spawn at 3:47 with flashing "GO! -->" and a 1m30s stage climbing to the tower's peak jammin' to the rest of the track. Absolutely beautiful! I haven't felt like this since first play of Shovel Knight stage 1!
For me it was during stage 5 when those Lizzo bitches came out with that epic guitar track... but i def feel you on this track, this solidified it as a certified classic game and soundtrack
On Twitter he said that Funky HQ was his favorite song in the soundtrack and praised Oliver for really capturing the spirit of the old games in his new compositions.

i will get into a lots of fights for this. But i think that in THIS game. Oliver upped koshiro part of the soundtrack in every possible way. If someone asks me, whats the music that represents SOR 4, i point to this level and the dojo music.
@@Syklonus Understandable with the first level music as Koshiro was blending together SOR1 and 2's themes together (but once again not 3, annoying how that entry gets the shaft s much in this). I also like Das Mortals inclusion with the final boss theme, though I like Das Mortal regardless xD

The game was worth it just for this masterpiece of a song. Proper nostalgia. I’m 32 now but never too old for SOR. Can’t believe how emotionally charged this track is. Great game, Epic series, thoroughly enjoyed maxing it out.
Born on or around '88? Me too. SoR4 was a surprisingly great follow-up to our childhood favorite. I'm old and cynical now, i didn't expect the the gameplay AS WELL AS the soundtrack to be S-tier and faithful.

I am a bit younger but as a kid I played sor1&2 and God damn. That hit me with so much nostalgia honestly. And this game doesn't even exploits it it just pays tribute to our memories. Also the part where Adam showed up I almost pissed myself out of happiness. Because I missed him in sor2&3
There's like two songs off the game that didn't make it in the soundtrack. The part you just mentioned, and the section where you're walking down the beach to the sewer. Right before fighting Estel. I have no idea why they were cut out

The new music has grown on me. This track is definitely my favourite. Like all the comments below, during 2:48-2:50mins onwards. It definitely gets catchy at that point. It has some Jean-Michel Jarre influence to it. Olivier Deriviere did a very fine job imo.
Mr Deriviere did the impossible - he managed to surpass the original trilogy with this soundtrack and spice up the experience to make you feel more badass than back when playing SOR1-3 as a kid. Fighting through the elevator section in this one to this song with your buddy is just unforgettable. Truly amazing
This song kicked in when I was reaching the hill’s peak during my jog, and at exactly 2:50 was when I got to the toughest point to master. Felt like a movie!
When I first played this game, I thought this was the final level because it was such a throwback to SOR2 with the elevator leading up to Shiva and Mr. X. Now that I have the stage select option, I play this level over and over just for the music. Sound bar is on full blast and never gets old.
Everybody saying that the second last part was the best but i disagree. For me is everything about this track awesome, even more the buildup. My Favorite part is 1:44, i'm such a sucker for this style of music.
You prefers the first part, that is your choice and your sensibility. But, major part of us love the second part, because that fit perfectly with the moment, and give an epic dimension to the scene. All of that song is very good, and first part too 😉

I first played SOR in 2001 (under the name of Bare Knuckle though). I was a Ukrainian kid from a provincial town and the vast majority of us could not afford Sony or PC, not to mention the Internet, so lots of us had good old Dendy or SEGA consoles instead and it was our first gaming experience. The games kicked ass back then and now, after almost 20 years I can enjoy playing the 4th part. And it feels so great yet again, just as it felt in my childhood. Everything is great about this game!

I know It is been three years since you've posted this, but just for you to know. Bare Knuckle was the name of this game in Japanese version. The american version is Streets of Rage. The first two games are identical, but the third game, SOR3 was a lot harder than BK3. And it has different clothes for the characters.
0:28, That really sounds like some really slick Russian trance. Not to mention, the bathhouse portion of the stage in the beginning really makes you feel like you made your way to a Russian neighborhood in an urban environment.

the whole song is amazing. not just rising up. that whole buildup to it. in fact, it makes the latter half of the track sound way better because it builds up to it amazingly. so many beat changes to shake a stick at. this soundtrack sounds amazing on high end headphones. seriously, this is some serious music they put in this game
Is there a nod to Prince at 2:00? It sounds similar to the guitar riff from Computer Blue from the Purple Rain album (1:39). That’s what it reminded me of.
One of the best ost's out there in video game history :D And the game has been nailed, wish it was a bit longer, it was already at a decent length. I want them to make another Streets of Rage, or make another modern styled game from the old SEGA collections, since this was quite nostalgic with the same sound effects of items you pick up and so on. Animation was perfect, love the hand drawn animation like here. These devs(Dotemu) nailed the game's essence, no need to invent anything new, just update the graphics and add a little bit that cherry on top with few new things like these specials and combo variations.
I was in the kitchen cooking and a commercial with this song on it came on. I was cutting onions at the exact moment the beat dropped and its a good thing because it masked the fact that i was crying like a blubbering baby from pure nostalgia.
This entire track is a well-thought out masterpiece. It builds-up the suspense in the first half, then evolves into one of the catchiest video game songs from 2:48 onwards.

Did a playthrough on hardest difficulty and as rage inducing this stage was I was pushed to keep going by this track. Elevator bit of the music is just amazing. (2:48 onwards)

as much as I know, it got inspired by Mylene Farmer's melody from the 90's. What's funny is that Mylene Farmer seems to have a huge fanbase in Russia. As she write french songs, I was very surprised to see how famous she was for russians, but it seems the melody find a particular echo in there.

Actually, yes, Olivier Derivière talked about the Russian inspiration for the first part: a nod to the movie Eastern Promises, in which the character played by Viggo Mortensen gets beaten up in a sauna. ;)

Koshiro's tracks were the least interesting out of the whole OST. Not bad by any means, but they felt like bland rehashes.

One of the best things about this song is that most characters walk cycles sync up extremely well to the beat
For me the comeback after this part 3:40 is the best part. 80's and 90's mixed up with so much emotion. 10/10!!!

I love how the OST captures the 90s mood quite well. I’m still partial to the first SOR ost but this is damn close.

You know what’s weird? Mother Russia didn’t have a bathhouse brawl scene. Missed opportunity
as much as I know, it got inspired by Mylene Farmer's melody from the 90's. What's funny is that Mylene Farmer seems to have a huge fanbase in Russia. As she write french songs, I was very surprised to see how famous she was for russians, but it seems the melody find a particular echo in there.

Actually, yes, Olivier Derivière talked about the Russian inspiration for the first part: a nod to the movie Eastern Promises, in which the character played by Viggo Mortensen gets beaten up in a sauna. ;)
