Can we just talk about how Xu Xiao set a plan in motion to marry his son to an enemy princess and spent 20 years putting the pieces in place? I suspect that despite their animosity the Rulers of Chu and Xu Xiao had enormous respect for each other. Also Jiang Ni hissing at the cat was about as cute a thing as I've ever seen in my life

I totally agree, and I'm an American. It's only our governments that cause stress and strife between people of different nations. Of course governments do a lot of necessary things but use different methods and rules to accomplish them. But we should be able to accept the differences and still get along on a personal level. I've always loved many things about Chinese and Asian culture. I've studied Asian health and healing practices and also martial arts. The history, art, architecture and clothing of the east are unique and beautiful. I loved the characters in this series but also all of the set design, costumes and acting of course, and also the folk lore built into the plot. In Asian culture the mythology is very colorful and intriguing. All done to perfection in this series. 😍👍😊😎❤

I lost interest in his romantic life when someone said in the book he had over 8 wives and heaps more casual lovers. I couldn't care less of his bedroom needs. The Princess is better off rejoining her own people than waiting for fallen crumbs and leftovers.
I think of JiangNi as XFN’s little sister. Not really a love interest.

Being bilingual in both Chinese & English, I observed this: Chinese language, especially in the more ancient form as used in this drama, is very condensed, i.e. meaning can be conveyed in only a few words. It’s evident by comparing the length of the Chinese subtitles vs. the length of the English subtitles. 😊
I noticed that and I don't speak any Chinese at all. But I understand when they say Beiliang and then one or 2 words but convey a longer meaning so I picked up on the fact that in Chinese they don't use all the adjects or other words that English uses. A lot is just understood by the context. Good thing too because I thing having to remember so many different pictograms in Chinese cannot be easy.
@@jn846 There are over 50000 Chinese characters in Chinese dictionary, but knowing 1-3000 characters are enough for living in China, a normal educated Chinese knowing no more than 10000 characters.
Modern chinese read the Chinese characters by its face meaning, while ancient chinese most Chinese characters have a deeper abstract complex meaning. For example, the word "Tao 道", it mean road or path for modern Chinese, but to ancient Chinese, they built a religious system upon this word Tao.
In computer sense Modern English/Chinese to ancient Chinese, .wav file vs .mp3 file.
An average Chinese reader cannot fully understanding ancient chinese without deep knowledge of Chinese cultures, just as a computer couldn't read a mp3 file without a proper MP3 player.
@@ocloudx - thank you so much for that interesting info. I have studied Taoism for many years and the more I learn the more I realize how little I know! haha, but I love it just the same. I had the great fortune to take classes with a great Tai Chi Grandmaster who showed me some of the mythology and things people think are just fantasy are actually real. We are much more than are physical beings. I have always felt very drawn to Chinese culture and have had many great Chinese teachers, I even studied Traditional Chinese Medicine (aka Acupuncture). This is one of the reasons I love this drama because they really go all in for the energy effects. One Tai Chi form I took had many very flowery moves such as "Close the door and put out the Moon". So I love it when I see them using names likes "2 Sleeves Green Snake" or other names for the Sword Moves. To me it is very much in keeping with the traditional knowledge and martial arts practices of ancient Chinese mythology or legends. And I have experienced some of this personally quite by luck, but some may say there is reason for everything. And the story in this drama everything in it has a reason. The fun is trying to figure it out a head of time.
But one more thing is GOB reminds me of a few Chinese teachers I've had in the past. Someone who knows they know their stuff and don't really have any need to show off.
@@ocloudx - I took a Tai Chi class with master Al Huang (Zunglian Huang) some years ago. And he would put dance or expressive movements to the calligraphy characters to show people what the characters meant. The characters embody so much energy with emotion and feeling the way they are drawn on paper with the brush strokes. It was really cool how he expressed them with movement! Someone who knows this can readily see it and feel it. 😊

Xu Feng father is like a God and his son and others are just real chess pieces for him😧. He planned and foresee🧐 every move far before, and everything's happening according to his plan, maybe he is the writer of this drama🤔🤭😅.

What I find more amazing is the fact that father and son have different ways of trying to achieve the goal to keep peace and ensure progress for the region; yet, in the end it complements getting the result they want. The sisters' roles play within their board game achieving their individual goals as their father and brother. Xu Feng Nian found that everything happening in the Lu clan and in their region is within her eldest sister's control, except the assasination attempt by Ms He He. As the eldest sister said, her body is weak, but her mind is not inferior. Brilliant, indeed.
Luckily, God of Blades teaches him the ultimate technique...can't wait to see the result how he gets out of it...
We want an ending that all the xu sibling..can go home to north liang ..and xu xiao can enjoy his last life playing w/ his grand children..

I was today years old when I realize the "brother-in-law" also played the 2nd prince in Joy of Life and the girl that cant be trusted was the FL in No boundary.
The old eunuch was also one of the hidden masters in Joy of Life, and played an eunuch there too. Same screenwriter wrote both drama from the books. Maybe it's the same production house.

It's a shame we all missed the fight between Cao Chang Qing and the God of Blades - but there is always the production budget to consider. Still, a small skirmish at the beginning would have been nice.

The series has flaws. Joy of Life and Nirvana in Fire, are better dramas
