    So, i Googled "She had a room in a Catholic home for women, a circle of friends and a job in a plastics factory" and the one and only result was a CBS article first published on 7th March 2000.
    It's from a story about a migrant woman named Reyna Marroquin who came to America to study fashion and wanted to make something special of her life...
    Instead she went missing for 30 years until one day, a massive drum buried in a Long Island home that numerous people had come into contact with and even moved from place to place, was pried open.
    Inside they found the mummified, pregnant corpse of poor Reyna. 😓

    I feel like “Acid Drag” is a good way to describe this
    Also, I think referring to a fictional drug as “Kah” makes sense with it being an acronym for “kisses and hugs” in the sense that drugs are often used to alleviate symptoms of loneliness and emotional neglect.

    The shape you couldn’t identify at 27:34 is a mortar and pestle. They used to be used ages ago by pharmacists to mix compounds to make certain drugs. Going along with the syringe, it’s another drug reference.

    When I found out the creator was from Indiana I went "Cool, they're from the state!"
    I looked at the dripped drop diet video and wished we hadn't lost him. It has a lot of black comedy elements, especially with the fiasco of getting the jars 'mixed up'. He was making analog horror before the trend really took off.

    TUV! At 27:36 the image in the middle is a medicinal mortar and pestle. Doctors used it to ground medicine/pills down to powder it and pack it into new empty pill capsules if they needed a couple meds mixed into one. Or they put the powder into little envelopes to be put into a drink if someone couldn’t swallow pills.

    Andy Warhol, while he famously was surrounded by people who wanted to be famous and was very collaborative, was also famously shot and nearly killed by a hanger-on. The photos of his scars are pretty extreme and do remind me in some ways of Shaye's disfigurments. He would later talk about being unable to recognize himself because of the scar tissue. He has also been roundly accused of using his friends for content or exploiting them in some way and while I personally feel that's a pretty reductive argument, it certainly lends itself to this discussion. Hello Again is also a song by The Cars which features Warhol in the video. Another aspect to the "fame = abuse" theory.

    I''ve always felt like an odd one out because I didn't come across Shaye from creepy video compilations. I somehow found the Hand Thing video at random and thought it was hilarious, so I just don't get the creep factor everyone else seems to be getting.

    • @StaminaLoss
      @StaminaLoss 9 місяців тому +2

      The best way to describe the creepiness would be imagining yourself being in the dark and getting attacked from every angle imaginable.
      Instead of yourself being attacked, it's your sense of visuals and audio that is being attacked from everything that is going on. Like it is a lot of information to process for your brain even if you pause the videos/ are just looking at the images.
      From the incredibly fast paced nature of it all not giving you a break, the overly edited effects, shayes design and sporadic movements to even the high pitched audio and uncanny nature of everything, it's a lot to comprehend.
      That's my personal reason for it being more creepy/disturbing and it's why I feel the same for things like Obey the Walrus and the website Subcultures being creepy when some people either find it funny or don't see anything at all. There's just something off putting about being overly stimulated/ not being able to understand it all.
      Though yeah the story being told is really good and I very much respect the artistry, it makes me feel the same when I have to endure abuse imagery, but in a way that makes me really enjoy it as it is a really good tool to portray disturbing topics.

    I think coming back from LA, Eric had made friends in the industry and had made friends that got sucked up in the industry with abuse since they were children. And there was no way to "expose" hollywood back then either, therefore I think he created Shaye. Knowing what we are learning in the recent 5 years is that Eric was so accurate with his depiction of it that he had to avoid all mention to avoid a "starlight tour".

    Apologies in advance for the long comment..
    I feel KAH is short for a combo of drugs that are known to cause people to waste away. As for what my theory is I see a woman who is lady of the night who ends up getting pregnant and has 2 kids whom she abused an sold for drugs and is in denial of aging an is envious of her kids looks. Or....he is reliving childhood trauma as maybe his mom wanted a daughter and ended up with S.A. on drug benders. I also agree with your theory too tho. These do make me think of one of the new A.H.S stories from season 3.

    I remember coming across the LiveJournal around 2003-2004ish when browsing communities. Had seen an icon someone had of Shaye that then led me to browsing their journal, seeing the title for their icon, checking the communities they were in, then found the original one and site… was a rabbit hole even then. Such a strange time on the internet, that’s for sure, but I loved it.
    I remember when the hand thing video started to gain some traction on UA-cam and had a select group of friends that had the same interests as I did with this stuff that would come up and ask if I was “still doing that hand thing?” as my name is Shae.
    Such strange videos, but I appreciated the dedication, even if I didn’t understand much of what was going on as I just enjoyed the aesthetics of it all. It’s nice to see a video be made after all of these years at least trying to go over it all and narrow things down, though (to which I agree with your theory, because now that I think about it, I recall a few posts and comments in those LJ communities making similar comparisons because it stuck out and made everything even more bizarre to think about). Great vid.

    I absolutely love this video, it was really nice to sit through and genuinely sparked me an interest in the Shaye Saint John project thing. I do believe in your theory, as I started this video I thought it was just an artistic take on a project but turns out it is so much more. "Kiki is the new Shirley Temple" really spelt it out. Also, maybe is the funny sped up televisionlady-like voice, but Shaye brings me a wave of odd comfort, and I do not find her too disturbing.

    While what's meets the eye first is a clunky low effort production, if you really pay attention you'll start to notice how much hard work was put into this.
    Seems like he was a deeply passionate artist, you will go down in history, Eric. RIP

      Wouldn't be shocked if it turns out it was some fucked up kink of his. By no means am I kink shaming, but I (as I'm sure most) feel it crosses the line when it's about getting off from someone else's suffering. I say that do to Shaye likely being a massive mockery of disabled people and the horrifically ableist shit he'd say on his LiveJournal (where he also may've or may've not used a real photo of a charred corpse as the punchline of a joke). And this is coming from a former fan of almost a decade until finding out what I know now about him.

    yall ever notice that the weirdest content from back in the day was always made by men who are very clearly having mid life crisis from their elderly narcissistic mother dying ? its always a weird guy with weird interests making this stuff in an old womans old house. if this isnt the purest form of "while the cat is away the mice will play" idk what is. this is , chilling

    • @aristobrat4987
      @aristobrat4987 10 місяців тому +2

      yeah the humiliation kink does it for me. that confirms it. this man was abused by his overbearing narcissistic mother. and narcissistic mothers are often overly sexual with their sons especially if theres no father around. like i get being creative but this is a level of weird that can only be explained with severe mommy issues

      @@aristobrat4987its not art. he clearly had severe mental issues and gender identity problems likely from trauma, along with multisubstance abuse issues . it seems to me he couldnt accept himself so he self medicated with lots of drugs and made this 2nd personality cause he couldnt accept himself, which is why his frienda refered to eric and shaye as the same person. usually drag queens do the same. its not some profound art its a decent into drug induced psychosis by someone who couldnt accept himself. No mentally sane person would do this. he loved hollywood culture and trends so much he would travel cross country for them. just an disturbed person i wish he got the help he needed instead of being encouraged to continue this behavior.
