So, i Googled "She had a room in a Catholic home for women, a circle of friends and a job in a plastics factory" and the one and only result was a CBS article first published on 7th March 2000. It's from a story about a migrant woman named Reyna Marroquin who came to America to study fashion and wanted to make something special of her life... Instead she went missing for 30 years until one day, a massive drum buried in a Long Island home that numerous people had come into contact with and even moved from place to place, was pried open. Inside they found the mummified, pregnant corpse of poor Reyna. 😓
Just read on wiki her body was buried in El Salvador where her 93 year old mother lived, who then died a month later and was buried with her. That really got me.
I feel like “Acid Drag” is a good way to describe this Also, I think referring to a fictional drug as “Kah” makes sense with it being an acronym for “kisses and hugs” in the sense that drugs are often used to alleviate symptoms of loneliness and emotional neglect.
As a kid, when I was around 8, me and my friend watched a "top 25 scariest internet videos" and out of all those Shaye Saint John is the one that stayed with me. Thanks for reminding me of my trauma!
The shape you couldn’t identify at 27:34 is a mortar and pestle. They used to be used ages ago by pharmacists to mix compounds to make certain drugs. Going along with the syringe, it’s another drug reference.
I Use them still 🗿🍻 to grind herbs and other plants. I have a extra one for psychedelic mushrooms, grind them up and put them in lemonade and the taste is near gone 💪
shaye saint john is responsible for a large part of my sense of humor, I was OBSESSED with that project growing up. im so happy to see an exploratory video about it rather than a typical mention or shoutout in a “creepy videos” compilation because the whole thing is so cool
When I found out the creator was from Indiana I went "Cool, they're from the state!" I looked at the dripped drop diet video and wished we hadn't lost him. It has a lot of black comedy elements, especially with the fiasco of getting the jars 'mixed up'. He was making analog horror before the trend really took off. Also Livejournal is Russian in origin??? .... I'm fascinated by that for some reasons.
I feel like he was also the first to do the original like vine-esque comedy, the fast paced almost cringe comedy that I remember seeing in people like Fred, honestly the first to do a lot of things and I feel like he was just some time away from his big break
I remember finding the shaye saint john videos through one of those “Top 5 scary youtube channels” videos, and later through scaretheater. Even though i already the basics of the Story, it’s interesting to hear other people’s theories/explanations. Also, rest in peace Eric Fournier.
TUV! At 27:36 the image in the middle is a medicinal mortar and pestle. Doctors used it to ground medicine/pills down to powder it and pack it into new empty pill capsules if they needed a couple meds mixed into one. Or they put the powder into little envelopes to be put into a drink if someone couldn’t swallow pills.
Andy Warhol, while he famously was surrounded by people who wanted to be famous and was very collaborative, was also famously shot and nearly killed by a hanger-on. The photos of his scars are pretty extreme and do remind me in some ways of Shaye's disfigurments. He would later talk about being unable to recognize himself because of the scar tissue. He has also been roundly accused of using his friends for content or exploiting them in some way and while I personally feel that's a pretty reductive argument, it certainly lends itself to this discussion. Hello Again is also a song by The Cars which features Warhol in the video. Another aspect to the "fame = abuse" theory.
I was obsessed with shaye when I was in high school and would quote her all the time and explore her website. I bought the DVD when she released it (and a t shirt!) She posted her AIM screen name somewhere on her site and I had the privilege of chatting with her one time when she signed on lol. GAH, hello again!
i used to be so scared of shayes face when i was younger but i kinda adore her now?? she’s cute! weirdly enough i have a lot of fun watching these videos (though her story and the themes hidden behind wacky editing are incredibly sad). i hope eric is proud of his creations, wherever he is now, because he created a true icon

I''ve always felt like an odd one out because I didn't come across Shaye from creepy video compilations. I somehow found the Hand Thing video at random and thought it was hilarious, so I just don't get the creep factor everyone else seems to be getting.
The best way to describe the creepiness would be imagining yourself being in the dark and getting attacked from every angle imaginable. Instead of yourself being attacked, it's your sense of visuals and audio that is being attacked from everything that is going on. Like it is a lot of information to process for your brain even if you pause the videos/ are just looking at the images. From the incredibly fast paced nature of it all not giving you a break, the overly edited effects, shayes design and sporadic movements to even the high pitched audio and uncanny nature of everything, it's a lot to comprehend. That's my personal reason for it being more creepy/disturbing and it's why I feel the same for things like Obey the Walrus and the website Subcultures being creepy when some people either find it funny or don't see anything at all. There's just something off putting about being overly stimulated/ not being able to understand it all. Though yeah the story being told is really good and I very much respect the artistry, it makes me feel the same when I have to endure abuse imagery, but in a way that makes me really enjoy it as it is a really good tool to portray disturbing topics.
I seriously haven't heard anyone even know about shaye saint john in years none the less talk about it, so seeing the notification for this video got me beyond hyped!
Eric Fornier's work is so deep and personal,as all great artists are. Great work on your Shay Saint John video @tuv. I hope your analysis brings light to a world where most people never look beyond the superficial to find what is hidden. I'm definitely adding you to my playlist! Thank you.
I think coming back from LA, Eric had made friends in the industry and had made friends that got sucked up in the industry with abuse since they were children. And there was no way to "expose" hollywood back then either, therefore I think he created Shaye. Knowing what we are learning in the recent 5 years is that Eric was so accurate with his depiction of it that he had to avoid all mention to avoid a "starlight tour".
Apologies in advance for the long comment.. I feel KAH is short for a combo of drugs that are known to cause people to waste away. As for what my theory is I see a woman who is lady of the night who ends up getting pregnant and has 2 kids whom she abused an sold for drugs and is in denial of aging an is envious of her kids looks. Or....he is reliving childhood trauma as maybe his mom wanted a daughter and ended up with S.A. on drug benders. I also agree with your theory too tho. These do make me think of one of the new A.H.S stories from season 3.

i don’t know how to feel about “shaye”.. it’s kinda scary to know that eric was shaye but he really had in mind that they were two different people. He did make good videos but it was based of triggers & mental illness and as a child that would be freaky growing up
That shape you couldn't make out was a mortar and pestle. They're used to grind up stuff. It's a medical symbol (typically for Pharmacology) that signifies grinding up ingredients to make medicine.
I remember hearing about Shaye in a video once but learning more about this subject really interested me for some reason. I have no clue why but I got Buckethead vibes from the triggers and music videos , just something about them screamed Buckethead for me.
I remember coming across the LiveJournal around 2003-2004ish when browsing communities. Had seen an icon someone had of Shaye that then led me to browsing their journal, seeing the title for their icon, checking the communities they were in, then found the original one and site… was a rabbit hole even then. Such a strange time on the internet, that’s for sure, but I loved it. I remember when the hand thing video started to gain some traction on UA-cam and had a select group of friends that had the same interests as I did with this stuff that would come up and ask if I was “still doing that hand thing?” as my name is Shae. Such strange videos, but I appreciated the dedication, even if I didn’t understand much of what was going on as I just enjoyed the aesthetics of it all. It’s nice to see a video be made after all of these years at least trying to go over it all and narrow things down, though (to which I agree with your theory, because now that I think about it, I recall a few posts and comments in those LJ communities making similar comparisons because it stuck out and made everything even more bizarre to think about). Great vid.
Personally, I don’t really think this series has a hidden meaning. I feel like it was just Eric trying to make something as weird and uncomfortable as possible.

My theory was the same lol. Also props to this brilliant mind, I believe that this creation got the attention it truly deserved. Wouldn't be shocked if it turns out it was some fucked up kink of his. By no means am I kink shaming, but I (as I'm sure most) feel it crosses the line when it's about getting off from someone else's suffering. I say that do to Shaye likely being a massive mockery of disabled people and the horrifically ableist shit he'd say on his LiveJournal (where he also may've or may've not used a real photo of a charred corpse as the punchline of a joke). And this is coming from a former fan of almost a decade until finding out what I know now about him.
yall ever notice that the weirdest content from back in the day was always made by men who are very clearly having mid life crisis from their elderly narcissistic mother dying ? its always a weird guy with weird interests making this stuff in an old womans old house. if this isnt the purest form of "while the cat is away the mice will play" idk what is. this is , chilling
yeah the humiliation kink does it for me. that confirms it. this man was abused by his overbearing narcissistic mother. and narcissistic mothers are often overly sexual with their sons especially if theres no father around. like i get being creative but this is a level of weird that can only be explained with severe mommy issues
@@aristobrat4987its not art. he clearly had severe mental issues and gender identity problems likely from trauma, along with multisubstance abuse issues . it seems to me he couldnt accept himself so he self medicated with lots of drugs and made this 2nd personality cause he couldnt accept himself, which is why his frienda refered to eric and shaye as the same person. usually drag queens do the same. its not some profound art its a decent into drug induced psychosis by someone who couldnt accept himself. No mentally sane person would do this. he loved hollywood culture and trends so much he would travel cross country for them. just an disturbed person i wish he got the help he needed instead of being encouraged to continue this behavior.

The Lore Is Deep, I Remember Shitting Myself
Because The Scariness
Thank you, Scare Theater for introducing SSJ to me in 2015 when I was 10.
Just about the mans voice about the kitty candy, he is also heard to say "its infected now"
The internet wasn’t that popular back in the early 2000s? What?
IM SO HAPPY ANOTHER TUV DOCUMENTARY EEEEK ‼️‼️‼️
a mix between the crazy psychedelic videos such as "pickle surprise" and the trash of john waters' movies
EDIT. oh apparently there's a squeeze of david lynch too
I remember hearing abt her for the first time and she scared me so bad I was paranoid she’d find me while I was out and about, one time I even convinced myself she was watching me while I slept. (I was like 11 or 12 and I def had seen creepier stuff but she just stuck with me at that time)
Yeah the dvd was a lot of money, but there was a lot of content in it, and a lot to uncover. I’d say arguably you get your moneys worth
this is like a drag arg and i am living for it?
27:30 the shape in the middle is believe is a mortar and pestle!!
I remember going on their website a few times. It was so weird
great vid as always tuv, awesome theory btw
Oh god i remembering these videos weirdly i enjoyed them idk why i just did
The Shaye in the mrblackdarkness666 interview Is most likely the faux Shaye from the Safe & Sane UA-cam channel
Yes, finally someone who knows this
My theory was the same lol. Also props to this brilliant mind, I believe that this creation got the attention it truly deserved.
While what's meets the eye first is a clunky low effort production, if you really pay attention you'll start to notice how much hard work was put into this.
Seems like he was a deeply passionate artist, you will go down in history, Eric. RIP
Kah can be slang for MDVP-tan or Flakka.
You need to do a part 2 cause this doc was crazy good on ya
Love the longer form content 🔥🔥🔥
27:35 its a mortar and pestle(or the pharmaceutical equivalent) its a bowl and smasher used to grind things up.
27:35 the shape in the middle is a mortar and pestle; used for crushing substances into a fine powder
“All her limbs were replaced by doll limbs, she’s in a wheelchair, government experiments, and ‘most implanted person on the planet’” screams f*tish to me
Wouldn't be shocked if it turns out it was some fucked up kink of his.
I feel called out LMAO. No humiliation kink though, just masochism and pain instead
This kind of thing, the uncanny valley and human looking figures keeps me up at night.
Chills (Burger King Foot Lettuce guy) was the one who exposed me to this insanity. 😅
Happy thanksgiving Tuv!
The more I watched this the more I felt like I was losing brain cells
It’s 5am while I’m watching this vid and I’m thoroughly creeped out, so thank you (I think?)😂

I’ve never related to a fictional character more in my life until I discovered the original site. I fell in love instantly. Rest in peace
