What about when he bailed his play in HSM 3 at the LAST MINUTE to meet Gabriella leaving Sharpay completely alone. A play where he felt no consequence of his action when all the hard work was done by others
Agreed. I mean I get he is not too fond of sharpay but he made a commitment whether Gabriella is there or not
I guess that’s kinda true but that’s why they have an understudy in place just in case and he knew that so it’s not like he left them high and dry with no replacement to take over for the performance. Plus it also gave rocketman his time to shine as well.
If this was made today, I feel they wouldn't get away with trying to make Sharpay the villain. This was made in Utah, right? Being a strong, determined woman apparently isn't great according to those making the film. 🤷🏻♀️

I will admit that Troy’s mistakes in HSM2 led to the best song in the movie, the series, and one of the best songs in the world to me. Gotta Go My Own Way is AWESOME!

This is one thing I've hated over the trilogy. Troy is not an entirely bad person, but in every movie he has to deal with something that challenges his regular routine, he struggles with what to do, there's some misunderstanding and he has to learn what he did wrong and make things better. I know it's hard for teenagers to make it through high school, it was for me, but shouldn't he remember what happened the year prior and decide not to make the same mistake? Also, he should be able to sense something's wrong after going through it in the first two movies so he could put the brakes on and think things over before going too fast and crashing hard, ruining his relationships with others. He's not perfect, that's for sure, but for a guy who's supposed to be a leader, he's done at a good job showing us he's willing to put others down to get what he wants

Really? He was late for the audition? If anything, Gabriella was the one who was late since she waited until the last minute to get the guts and ask for an audition. Troy just bit the bullet and agreed to audition since Darbus said she was only looking at paired auditions since the singles ended a long time ago. PLUS, Darbus didn't really give them a "traditional" audition since they were late. She just happened to overhear them after she'd left and gave them a callback since they were so good. First one was a major reach

I heard some good things about the movie High School Musical before I went to high school and thought a musical would be fun to be in. But when I was roped in one during my seiner year, it was actually one of the most stressful experiences of my life.
Troy was definitely a jerk in HSM 2, and there was no reason for him to treat Ryan the way he did in that movie, I actually genuinely felt for Ryan through all the movies, and yeah the way he treated his friends during the second movie was the worst, Honestly Troy needed to get his head out of his ass in the second movie!

8 is the Chad and taylors fault mostly for secretly recording his Blurt words. They piss Troy off to a point that he just said those things out of blurt and then secretly record it to show gabby. So who shall we point fingers to Troy or the friends? Plus even if they succeed it's not like the results are any better. It'll jumbles Troy's mind and upsets Gabriella even if they did win at their competition. Winning by costing friendships aren't just worth it.
And when he apologizes to Gabriella. He said “ I just told them what they wanted to hear. I didn’t mean any of that.”

A lot of hate for a high school guy, who was just as insecure as anyone that age, and I thr world of competitive sports, all athletes eventually look out for themselves, with scholarships and futures on the lines. Also sharpay purposefully used her status to get closer to a guy who clearly wasn’t intesrtested and already had a girlfriend!! Not muc diff from a girl being wooed by her boss for perks, then feeling trapped into pleasing them! And can we all agree when these movies came out, drama and glee wasn’t considered cool and thei was clearly favouritism towards the Evans siblings, and how can no one mention how many awful things sharpay and even troys friends did just to get the spotlight or win a nbasketball game?? Just my thoughts, rare video that I didn’t like or agree with ms mojo!!!

Troy was merely a victim of circumstance, thrown into somewhat of a "prophecy" that he didn't know he or Gabriella would be apart of. My opinion.

The #1 reason was wrong on my part. Sharpay was, in my opinion, was the villain, clawing her way into Troy since childhood, using him to keep herself on the pedestal. By the end of HSM3, she realized she couldn't keep herself on that pedestal, nor could she pry Gabriella away from Troy. She learned to accept her new role after graduation, and became an anti-hero in her solo flick. Again, my opinion.

#10: Honestly, being late doesn't make him a bad person at all. It's true that Ms. Darbus wanted him to come on time, but I think he was being nice to sing with Gabriella. Besides, it all worked out, didn't it?
#9: Okay, I'm not sure if he was ditching her exactly. Maybe he was, it's kind of hard to say. He definitely shouldn't have done that, but to be fair, he didn't really know her and was nervous.
#8: This was one of Troy's biggest mistakes. Although his friends should not have led him to say that, Troy definitely should have made them understand, or at least not been so mean.
#7: I'll admit, Sharpay isn't as bad as some people say, but she still was kind of mean. But hey, at least Troy lived up to his promise and sang with her, and was often nice to her even though she was pushy.
#6: Yeah, Chad wasn't perfect at all, but I liked his relationship with Troy and I know Chad was a good person. I wasn't a huge fan of the way he sometimes tried to control Troy's future, but overall Chad was very loyal and Troy should've paid more attention to him and his feelings. In the end, however, I think it all worked out, so I don't hold a grudge.
#5: Being popular wasn't anything Troy could control. I mean, yeah, he played basketball, but all he was doing was what he loved and was passionate about. He was honestly a likable guy, and I can't blame him for that.
#4: Troy definitely acted a little jealous of Ryan when he and Gabriella started hanging out, but that's natural. At times, it did seem like they might have been flirting, at least in Troy's eyes. And even if he didn't want Gabriella to be friends with Ryan, that changed. By the end of the third movie, Gabriella was friends with Ryan, Chad, Zeke, and Jason and Troy was totally cool with that.
#3: I can't deny the fact that it was Troy's fault that Gabriella wanted to break up with him. He let getting what he wanted blind him from his friendships and romances. But Troy definitely made up for it and you gotta admit, the two were meant to be together?
#2: It's true that Troy shouldn't have abandoned his friends in the second movie. It wasn't nice of him, but I know he felt really bad. It's time to forgive him.
#1: In my opinion, it wasn't Troy's original intent to use Sharpay. He was blinded, but made up for it and eventually did the right thing by singing with her.

This video was such a reach lol, Troy is not perfect nor is he supposed to be. Do you know how contrived and boring Troy would be if he always did the "right/most honorable" thing all the time? Nobody does, and it's dumb to expect anyone, let alone a teenager, to do so. Also, there'd be literally no plot to HSM if he wasn't the way he is and he'd have no opportunity to grow/realize his wrongdoings if he was perfect in the first place.

We did Sharpay wrong back in the day. I believe Sharpay deserves an apology. Sharpay was all about Troy. She was all for him and his future unlike Gabriella who was Miss I Want The Perfect Summer. Girl grow up. When you join the real world like the rest of us give me a shout. Sharpay could've taken Troy places. It was clear he didn't want better for himself. His friends were also mad selfish. Troy has to think about himself and his future cause nobody else is doing that. Please do Top 10 Times Sharpay was the Best and Top 10 Times Gabriella was The Worst.
So Troy should be with Sharpay because of her connections? It was obvious he didn't really like her at all as a person and given that her and Gabriella are like polar opposites, it's not surprising. Honestly, Sharpay deserves to be with someone who likes her and all her quirks not someone who would just be using her for their future.

She ditched Ryan so she could perform with Troy and when she rehearsed her performance it was all about her having the spotlight. Gabriella just wanted to spend time with Troy cause it was their last carefree summer before senior year and his friends felt just as disappointed in him as Gabriella was so don’t act like she was the only one who was angry.

I think I realized that I was getting older when I understood some things in a different way:
1. Sharpay was never the villain of the story, she did what she liked with great enthusiasm and worked hard to achieve her dreams.
2. The way everyone acted in the second movie was somewhat toxic, Gabriella got jealous of Troy and Sharpay, Troy put aside his friends to get his scholarship and began to act very selfish, Chad became jealous of the treatment that Troy was receiving, Taylor told Gabriella to be careful with Troy and Sharpay and putting Troy in a bad position since the begining of the movie even when he wasn't acting selfish, and Sharpay pushed her brother aside for singing with Troy.
3. Troy took many things for granted, in the third movie especially, he knew the talent he had for singing and playing basketball so he just took it for granted that he would have the doors open at any university that he wanted.
4. Troy and Gabriella's relationship was a bit toxic
5. Troy's decision at the end of the film was very hasty, just as his talent he took their relationship for granted, as if it were never going to end, Gabriella almost rejected Standford for staying with him, (honestly it's good that it wasn't like that because it would've been very silly) and Troy forgot his plans with his best friend just like that, and he went to another university closer to Gabriella, that was a mistake since the friendship is more likely to be lasting than the relationship

I've wanted to go back and watch this trilogy again, as an adult, and see if i pick up on anything I may have missed when I saw them the first time as a middle schooler.
It's also in part due to watching Game Theory do a video on Sharpay and the fact that she may not have been all that bad a person in the trilogy.
Also, arguably the most underrated character in the franchise has got to be Ryan.
I think he may have had the most character development out of everyone and we just kinda missed it.
Great video though, but, with it being a high school kid with as said in the video, "his head in the clouds", maybe SOME can be forgiven, but others, may have been downright dirty to the point that you wonder how everyone he affiliated himself with even gave him the time of day by Senior Year

All of the things Troy did he always redeemed himself and turned out to be the good one. He never really meant the things he did he just felt confused and he always had people trying to make him do things without them thinking about what Troy wanted to do.

I don’t think Troy was going to ditch Gabriella, I always saw it as he was just really nervous and turned away to catch his breath, and was surprised when he heard her sing .
Honestly some of these I agree with, but just because troy made a decision that was better for his future by attending a different college to his best friend does not make him the worst.
I think Troy is nice but he lets himself be influenced. in the first movie, his friends persuaded him to play basketball instead of singing. in the second movie he was influenced by Sharpay and in the third movie he was sad about Gabriella.
This makes me mad, because it was not his fault 90% of the time for what he did

We all make mistakes, and have shortcomings. But there's a line between making a mistake, and being a jerk.
i think it’s good that he isn’t perfect, it makes him more human and a more well-rounded, interesting character. it’d be boring af if he was always making the right decisions. more realistic this way, and that’s why i still loved him. the whole point was to teach the young viewers lessons.
I fundamentally don't trust people who say Sharpay did nothing wrong.
Here's why:
In HSM 2 she straight up tried to steal another girl's boyfriend, in HSM 1 & 2 she didn't want any competition for the spotlight (that's life honey, grow up and deal with it), and she treats other people poorly through the entire series. I don't feel sorry for her, I knew people in theatre that were like her and they were awful.
And used her brother as a prized poodle
Also Ryan was so loyal and stayed by her and she always mistreated him and gave him up for Troy in HSM2
@Amari Morris I never said Troy was a good person. All I said was that Sharpay isn’t the awesome pop diva most people think she is.
@Amari Morris I agree she was an excellent stage performer but the way she treated Ryan was unacceptable and no one did anything about it. Ryan was always there for her and she was awful and had no regard for his feelings. The second he wasn’t helpful anymore she dumped him for a boy who didn’t even like her. Troy was a stupid character and both Gabriella and Sharpay can do much better. I don’t know if you’ve seen Sharpay’s fabulous life, but her character development in there makes her an amazing character. But I’m not a fan of her in the HSM trio. @Amari Morris to be honest, giving Ryan the star dazzle award doesn’t make up for anything since in the third movie she went back to mistreating Ryan but everyone had different opinions! Ashley is hot but I gotta be blunt sharpay is not perfect. She surely acted like a brat when things don't go her way. Look we understand that she's beeen doing theatre as a main role since like 5 and I understand how she feels when she got downgraded to Gabriella's understudy, and the musical role just fell into our fav iconic couple's lap in just matters of second. And she spend the entire first movie trying to get rid of Troy and Gabriella just to get her spotlight back. But she needs to understand things happens the way that we don't like sometimes. Sharpay needs to learn sometimes to be a bigger person we need to step down and let others step up. While she surely grown out of her whiny attitude in the third one, it still shows somewhat that she's still a drama queen

You forget, Sharpay planned the whole Summer to breakup Troy and Gabriella because she didn't think that they made sense. She was trying to seduce Troy.
I feel like looking back that Gabriella may have been the real villain of the trilogy instead of Sharpay or Troy. Think about it, when she first got to East High, Troy explained to Gabriella that the reason he didn’t tell anybody about singing is because people wouldn’t really understand him for it, Gabriella got mad at him and resented him for it. And in the second one Troy is trying to secure his future but Gabriella kept getting mad at him for not spending enough time with her even though he was trying to get an important scholarship

Ok so some of these are just dead wrong. Whoever came up with the whole thing about Troy being late didn’t watch the movie. He wasn’t gonna audition at all and only spoke up because GABRIELA was too late for the individual auditions and he thought maybe it wouldn’t be too late for the pair audition. He also never used Sharpay the way the video implies. SHE went out of her way to use her family’s money and influence to pressure Troy into being close to her. She knew what she was doing and continued to do so even in scenes where he was obviously uncomfortable. Whether he stayed is something else but she was no innocent in that situation. He also may have bailed on her in the second movie at first but changed his mind and was set on singing with her as long as the other wildcats got their chance too. Also, she bailed on Ryan in this movie too so if Troy had stayed away it would have been what she deserved in that movie. That said, I didn’t agree with him bailing in the third movie.
When Troy finally decided on a college in the final film, he didn't even think to tell the most important people in his life and let them process it, especially Chad who he knew would be upset about his decision. He told them at the same time as he told everyone in the public, even though it concerned probably no one in that audience other than his parents, and most of them likely did not give a toss anyway. It's no wonder Chad disappeared from the stage, he had no time to process it when he needed it the most
What about in the 3rd movie when he and Gabriella miss out on the entire show until the very end and then take all the credit for it even though they literally didn't do shit until the final act? And then he STILL gets awarded the Julliard scholarship even though he doesn't deserve it, and doesn't even end up going there and instead goes to Berkeley, a different school that he also has no business getting into, while Sharpay gets stuck going to local school?

I think you need to go back and watch HSM 3 again. Troy didn’t get the Julliard scholarship, Kelsi and Ryan did. Also, Sharpay made the choice to go to a local school. Her parents are rich, she could’ve gone to any school she wanted. What makes you think he has no business going to Berkeley? He’s probably a good student (though we’ll never really know because when were they ever really in class lol), is a great basketball player, and has theater experience on his school resume. I don’t see how he wouldn’t get into Berkeley.

Troy is the sweetest guy on the movie but he had Bad behavuour cuz sharpay used him just for her plan to separate his Friends and mostly Gabriella from him. It was not his fault, it was sharpay's fault!
I know there are the chad and Ryan shippers out there and I know we should not just ship two people together just because they have some chemistry, but am I only the only one who shipped Ryan and Gabriella. I thought they were cute together and had more in common than Troy and Gabriella did.

7. Sharpay he was not very wrong for. If you are annoyed by somebody it's not always wrong. Sharpay tried to destroy their relationship for music. Gabriella and Troy were better, so she tried to almost ruin their lives just because of it. I really can see myself through the identity crisis, the last year of middle school I was so lost that I started to hate myself bc of the person I was becoming. I didn’t know how to fit in, the friends I thought I had weren’t real friends, people always treated me like a nerd so I tried to be cool, talk like teenagers, use bad words since they say I’m way too polite and talking like a grandma…

I hate when people claim that Sharpay is innocent and troy is the real villain. I will admit that some of the things on this list were bad, but most of them weren't Troy's fault. Espically the #1 that was on this list. He did not use Sharpay, Sharpay was using him. She was trying to give him everything he would ever want for his future so he would like her. Let's not forget the reason she likes Troy in the first place. She knows he is popular and that them dating will only make her more popular. However she doesn't have real feelings for him. If she did then why would she have a thing with Zeke? At the end when he "bails" on her, he is owning up for his actions and staying with his friends to be a waiter. Most of the other incidents were because of his friends being mad that he would have a future without them. Like, I'm sorry he cares about his future?! Friends split up after high school that's just how it works.

I have gained new perspective. Tbf troy bailed on sharpay because of the realisation of him treating his friends badly. And at least one of the dates he couldn't particularly help it. Faulton practically made him watch sharpay sing that song (idk the one with a long name). Some stuff couldn't be helped. But overall I agree. He did some bad things and learnt to fix them the hard way

Am I the only one that felt bad for Troy in the 2nd movie? Honestly he wasn't that mean to his friends, they just weren't his number 1 priority for a time period, and they couldn't handle that. The real "worst" characters in the movies were Chad and Taylor. They both constantly trivialized Troy and Gabriella's relationship, and went behind their back all the time to change plans, but judged Troy and Gab for making any changes. Smh

Honestly I feel like people give Troy too much of a hard time and instantly paint him as the villain.
This is the way that I personally see it.
Yes he made those mistakes and had his incredibly selfish moments but the thing is that he actually learned through those mistakes and became a much better person because of them.
Sharpay as much as I love her never learned through her mistakes and always went back to being her selfish self by the next movie all the way to Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure where she finally gets a reality check and becomes a much better person as for Troy he made mistakes and he learned from them and became a much better person by the next movie while Troy grows throughout the films and not just the last final film.
Yes Troy was jealous of Ryan hanging out with Gabriella but give him credit he at least accepts Ryan by the end of the movie once he apologizes to everyone for being such a jerk. Who else doesn't feel a hint of jealousy or worry when they see their girlfriend or their crush hang out with another opposite gender and then comes to let it go later? It's natural.
Not to mention but while I do admit that Troy was all over Gabriella over Chad at times he winded up going to a college that he wanted to go too that just happened to be close to Gabriella now I know that he loves her and such but it was also a school that fit in what he wanted the most to both theater and basketball which the college that Chad was going too didn't have. Troy chose his career path and he just happened to get super lucky that it was awfully close to Gabriella and he grabbed that chance. I love how HSM3 shows that you can't always be with your best buddies in college for life goes a whole different direction and even though he winded up choosing one closest to Gabriella he still doesn't go to the same school as her either.
As for the popular privilege thing that's pretty unfair too. So is the video trying to say here that Troy should just sit around and do nothing and not accomplish anything? Troy worked hard to become a basketball player and happened to have an awesome singing voice that should be well recognized. Ms. Darbus didn't just pick him because he was Troy the popular basketball star she picked him because he had an amazing voice and Ms. Darbus actually admits that to Troy's Dad later in the first film by saying that he had an amazing voice and she wouldn't let Troy play her Drama Club play into ruins. She also has a rivalry with Troy's Dad so if she doesn't like Troy's Dad why would she want his son on board her play? She chose Troy because of his awesome singing voice and not because he is a star of the basketball team and the school. Troy being very good at basketball and singing brings him all of those friends whom have that same thing in common with him so clearly that part of the video didn't make any kind of sense. I do admit though Sharpay did invite him at her country club because he is Troy Bolton and she has a major crush on him so that I can agree with but that's on Sharpay and not so much Troy himself.
Sharpay has a whole lot of potential with her extraordinary talents yes however she's the one whom sabotages her own chances of rising to the top not Troy yes he did use her to get the college scholarship and bails out on her yet the bailing out part also happened because he didn't want her to take the fullest advantage of him and have the show wind up happening because he doesn't have his fullest heart in it and he knows that she has to learn that she can't get everything that she wants but he at least is nicer to her by the end and tries to go back to her and perform alongside her but it's more so Ryan and the rest of the Wildcat gang that winded up having that change to Troy and Gabriella sing together instead making Sharpay not have that chance. Yet despite that during the performance of Every Day when everyone is going up on stage to dance it's Troy whom grabs Sharpay's hand to come along and dance alongside them showing that he still wants to do the show with her even without the singing. He redeems himself with Sharpay in the end as well as his friends meaning that he learned through his mistakes.
Yet if Sharpay were extremely nicer and included in everybody in her shows and not purposely sabotage them to make them not be a part of the show in fear of them out staging her then she would have had her own performances up on stage and people would have loved to see her potential and talents not to mention but she's shown her performance of that Hawaiian song that she did with Ryan before (Hard to know how to spell it, lol) and has won the talent show plenty of times in the past yet Troy and Gabriella got to be the different winners well actually Ryan but still. Either way people have seen Sharpay's talents so many times before and it's Sharpay's fault that she can't do her own performances at times because of the way she sabotages everyone in the movies. It has absolutely nothing to do with Troy or Gabriella for that matter.
So yeah this was long but people need to take a step back and see Troy's jerk moments and mistakes as arcs that he has to go through to become a much better person for he learns through his mistakes and becomes a much better person because of them. Troy is no villain of the story all he is just a relatable average popular guy that we can all personally relate with because we go through the same exact troubles as he does and he helps us learn through them and to make the right kinds of decisions.
So please people stop painting him as the villain for at the end of the story Troy Bolton has a heart of gold. :)
