Beautiful tribute. I hear and feel this and my interpretation is it is of the view of a survivor of a hate crime (stonewall) and being brutalised and locked up and only being able to have ice chips and waiting for the end
This is inspired by her friend Lou Reed who died in 2013.
A friend of mine expressed to me in the final months of his life that the simplest sensations had begun to feel almost rapturous; a carer had placed a shard of ice on his tongue one day and it was such a sweet and unbelievable feeling that it caused him to weep with gratitude. He was a hardcore kind of guy and these moments were transforming the way he was seeing things. I wrote “Sliver of Ice,” remembering those words of his.
Thank you for sharing this. My daughter and I did this day and night until my mother died. We held her and told her we loved her so much in the years before she died.

I just played this Friday early morning after a night of dancing, a friend urged me to put it on as we unwinded into the dawn. Immediately, I was taken and am still so overwhelmed by the feelings this record evokes, it's just beyond. I sometime's cannot believe and am astonished by how music and art can be so transcendent. Anhoni has gifted this world an art form that will last an eternity, while giving great honor to the lovely muse Ms. Marsha P. Johnson smiling back at us with her warm and embracing portrait - a beautiful spirit who will be celebrated by even more people some of who may have never heard of her work and legacy, because of this album.
