  • This Mercedes G class 4x4 camper is built onto a Mercedes G chassis in true motorhome style. This very cute off road vehicles is designed for someone who wants to go on a 4x4 adventure, clearly very tough. Orange Work from Cologne build 4x4 vehicles to order and each one is different!
    This was filmed at the Abenteuer & Allrad off road camping event in Bad Kissingen in June 2018.
    I live in a motorhome full time and travel around Europe in it. I spend most of my time in Poland, Germany and Italy. Vanlife is my life.
    In my UA-cam channel, I present reviews of recreational vehicles. Here you will find campervans and motorhomes from the cheapest camper vans to the most expensive luxury liners, from various companies including Orange Work, Hobby, Hymer, Carthago, Westfalia, Wingamm, La Strada, Frankia, Wavecamper, Maurer, Dreamer, Itineo, Rapido, Clever Vans, Pössl, Bürstner, Niesmann Bischoff, Action Mobil, Reisemobil Manufaktur, Robeta, Trigano, Challenger, EuraMobil, Karmann Mobil, Laika, Forster, Mobilvetta Design, Affinity, Globe Traveller, Benimar, Roller Team, Adria, Bocklet, Woelcke,Tourne, Megamobil, VW, Mercedes, CS, Renault, Ford, Fiat, Carado, Sunlight, Baileys, Chausson, Balcamp, Knaus, Weinsberg, Murvi, Bliss, Mitsubishi, Woelcke, Reisemobile Bürow, Holzmobil, Giotti Line, Florium, Fleurette, Ahorn, Westfalia, Space Camper and others.
    I do this by regularly attending trade events such as CMT Stuttgart, Abenteuer und Allrad, Caravan Salon Dusseldorf, Warsaw Caravan and Camping Show and sometimes others.
    I cover equipment, including 12v electrical equipment and talk a lot about lithium batteries.
    I also show some of the places I have visited in Europe in my own motorhome, as well as the places you can stay at! I try to give as much coverage as I can to official campsites and free places which I use for overnighting. Therefore you can find here the aire or stellplatz that you are possibly looking for.

    The Sportsmobile 4x4 Ford is the only competitor for me. (Big price diff I know) This is just a beast of a vehicle though. The ground clearance GREAT.

    Ooh, a virginal comment section. How exciting. Compared to the striking exterior, I found the interior not very homely or inviting. Might be a good purchase, if the technical prowess is impressive enough.

    Most of the vehicles at this show are way over the top I think. I would like 4WD or AWD in a motorhome but I would never have any need for the enormous wheels and other stuff these things have. 4WD or AWD is great if you are off metalled roads for a while like a beach or crossing a field which is all I'd ever want to do.

    I think it's off road capabilities far exceed it's range capability. Going by their website, 100 liters of fresh water, 60 liters waste tank and a 96 liter fuel tank (additional 100 liters auxillary) isn't enough if you want to venture well off the beaten track. If you can afford the 300-400,000 Euros then why not add an extra 200,000 and get a nearly new Unicat with 200 gallons of fresh, 200 gallons of fuel etc etc

      I just ordered something very similar to this and went through that question myself. The answer (and reason I went with a smaller vehicle rather than the Unimog) is twofold;
      - The water isn't a concern. All of these vehicles can pump and filter water from any moving water source.
      - Range is a concern but it's a trade off. There are lots of places that the larger vehicles can't go because they are just too big. You also have a huge advantage for intercontinental travel if your vechile can fit in a shipping container, which these can if you deflate the tyers and air suspension. Our solution is to carry a few Rotopax full of extra fuel on routes where it may be needed, but so far they have been few and far between.
      - Keep in mind that a G Wagon uses roughly half the fuel of a Unimog. Having a 200 liter tank on a G Wagon is equivalent in range to a 100 gallon tank on a Mog (which is double what a Mog comes with as standard).

      Nevermind. I figured it out. I LOVE this vehicle. It's exactly what I want. It's simple, has minimal gadgetry, and can go pretty much anywhere.
