I am neither a DIYer or a plumber, I sit in an office all day, but something about these videos really interests me! Cheers for another good one Mark
Thanks Lewis…… your not the only one to have said that to me before, glad you enjoy the content mate 👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
He's probably sitting there watching your videos thinking to himself "thank fuck im not a plumber" 🤣🤣
I'm also sat in an office and i've just ordered the bargain lamp, not what i'll use it for yet
Another amazing video Mark, every apprentice should watch how you hung that rad clear and simple keep well Barry 👍
Hi Mark,
Fantastic film again, soldering, pipe work and the dreaded microbore pipe.
I always tend to hang rads much the same as you do, great job as always.
I ordered my SLR-1750 on Sunday evening using your code and it arrived this morning, was free p+p also.
It’s a fantastic light as you say at a great price, thanks for that.
Have a great rest of the week, take care, regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
Nice one Chris…. I thought you would like this one as I know you love a bit of copper work.
Great lights ain’t they😉😉
Order my light Sunday received it today very impressed.
I got the festool kal light and would say the unilite is better.
With your link it's incredible value.
So a big thank you mate.👍
Evening, as a DIYer I’ve done this when fitting a towel radiator drops the one down stairs.
Nice to see a clean and tidy job.
👍👍👍👍
De nailing boards, as soon as you take them up is so true. I have had one of them go through my foot before for doing the complete opposite. Never going to make that mistake again that’s for sure. Great video as always mark 👍
Referred back to this video to hang a new rad in our bedroom last week, excellent tips mate, all plumbed in and used some of your other videos for draining down a combi. All went well 👍🏻 I’m now thinking about upgrading other rads in the house 😁
I have to say Mark, the more I see that bathroom the more I like it. Like the way you hang rads, so many ways to hang them. I like how you connected the two 8mm pipes, good tip that
Love all your videos watch them all you say it as it is that’s what’s so great
Those dlr-1750 Unilites are great and a bargain bought two great for charging the mobile and great bright light also keep up the great videos 👍
Thanks pal….. cracking lights ain’t they, my go to light as like you say it’s great for charging aswell
As a DIYer (I know my limits), your videos are extremely helpful, both for theory and practical application. Thank you very much indeed.
I’ve watched a lot of plumbing videos on you tube and Mark your channel seems the most relatable and the most informative, look forward to the next one 👍
Great video as always Mark
Thanks Tom, hope your well buddy.
Ain’t had chance to take a look at your recent video but from the thumbnail your in a roof with lagging and a blowlamp……. Should be fun🤣🤣….. we’ve all played that game🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
No mark I fully understand and have the confidence to cut pipes, just suggesting giving people a option , if you can turn something on and off surely that’s a better option for the novice, real world stuff and that, keep doing your stuff mate , love it. Lee
If your a novice then I would say drain the whole system before you gain confidence and do it this way as we do…..👍🏼👍🏼
Glad you like the content mate, appreciate the comments buddy
Nice clear video mark🤘🤘...just seen ur bmx video...class hey..keepin oldschool bmx alive lad👍
I wanna go on my own and I feel like these videos are good prep mark 👍🏽
I’m retired now but I know it’s always a nervous moment - no matter how many times you’ve done it - to open up a pipe that you can’t be sure of! Great video Mark
Nice work Mark. Hopefully doing something similar with my lovely 8mm microbore next week. I find that in the absence of a Nerrad funnel, some of my better half's silicone cookware works very well. Let's not tell her though 🤣
Grate vid Mark
You should get the 8mm and 10mm pipe slices from Toolstation 8mm 26361 £7.80 10mm 28990 £12.99 lot easier and better in confined spaces and they are cheap.
Have a good rest of the week see ya Sunday.
Hi Mark, another great video. I moved in to a house quite a few years ago that had 8mm to all the rads. Downstairs it was plastered into the walls, upstairs pipe came up through the floor. Every single one of the upstairs ones had crushed flat pipes, all at the same height, I’m pretty sure that this was caused by some over vigorous vacuum cleaning 😮. I did what you’ve done and replaced the above floor pipe to 15mm copper.
Yep I’ve seen exactly that where people have smashed the vac into the pipes
I’ve just moved a rad from one wall to another while I was adding insulated plasterboard in my 1930’s house, ran the pipes up behind the wall away from getting bashed with the vacuum cleaner, it’s all ready to connect up but I need to get into the loft to bung the tank but as I’ve moved everything out of the room to work I’ve parked the wardrobe until we get the room plastered under the loft hatch and filled the wardrobe back up, luckily it’s a lot warmer in there now. I have a few questions, will it make a difference to heat up when stepping up the pipe bore size, what is the paste that you use on the joints, and does it matter which side you put the thermostat on to the rad? Thanks
Hi Mark, yeah I can relate to that toilet incident. My mother put loo blue in her cistern a few years back and I ended up having to strip and rebuild it! She hasn't done it since though, lesson learned! 😂. My unilite arrived today, well chuffed! Cheers 🤝👍
Blue blocks of death them things!!!!
Glad you got the light mate, mega ain’t they
Really enjoyed this video i,m just a diyer but after watching it i feel i have the confidence to add an extra radiator if need be.
Literally just bought the light you shouted out! Couldn’t believe you got it down to £50! Cheers mate!
@@MJTiffPlumbing defo good to us lol even giving us some helpful tips! Like watching how other people do it different to me. I then question how or why I’ve never done it that way!
Yep totally agree with the loo block thing. Blocked a syphon completely I broke the syphon taking it out, cost a fortune just to have blue coloured water lol
As if I’ve done the exact two same jobs today…. Moved a radiator in a kitchen and banged a new toilet seal in the exact same flush valve… I must do over 100 of these a year. Big council estate contract all with these washers fitted. Buy them in a big box and keep them in the van. Must admit I’m also all for 15mm pipe on show. Micro bore looks naff and is easily damaged by hoovers etc. 👍 keep up the vids mate.. I don’t know why I enjoy watching people do the same job as me but the vids are very engaging! 👍👍
Thanks mate… fancy that, as if you’ve done the same. Glad you liked it buddy
@@MJTiffPlumbing must be something to do with us marc/marks! Haha! Special breed of tradesman!
Excellent video. Thank you.
How did you know which tail to connect to what micro bore? Does it matter?
How did you top up the inhibitor?
Top video again Mark exactly what I would of done and do ,I normally isolate the flow and return and work live as it air locks without any pressure, system still full and live do one at at time without fully draining.
Bathroom you did seems to grow on you as long as the customer is happy and they have paid the readies 👍
If it was shite I'd say but dont worry pal it's a good install.
Keep the real world plumbing coming 👍
Yep I will bung a gravity system as I’ve shown a good few times👍🏼👍🏼
A few people have said the bathroom sort of works now it’s all in…
Thanks mate🙏🏼
Hi thanks for the videos. When I first started plumbing 40 years ago a guy showed me the same way to hang a rad. The only difference was he always said take a board up in front of the rad first as you might just be able to fit the rad a little bit off centre but save yourself from going straight into a joist with your pipe. Peter Booth. ( non famous)
The aquavac is back (might seem obvious but just having an aquavac at the ready is probably the number one tip for all of us DIYers)! Another great video, Mark - thanks for all the tips. For the OCD amongst us, did you find that 8mm olive? 😀
Enjoyed watching that. When you add a new rad to an existing system do you have a rule of thumb to quickly set the balance of the lockshield valve? Or just set it at 50% open and let the home-owner tweak it as necessary?
Love the rule of thumb for cutting pipe only professionals use this method BRILLIANT MANOEUVRE BOOM 💥
Good Vid just started plumbing at college
Cheers buddy….. you will enjoy my videos then mate, shows you what it’s really like in the trade
I’ve always fluxed like that I’ve tried brushes a few times but seemed to get flux everywhere and it was just another thing to spend 10 mins trying to find after just putting it down😂😂 top vid again mate👌
What do you do if you get a joint that oxidises as you solder it you know what I mean ?when it turns dark I hit it with brush to clean it up and add solder in does that not cause an issue without a brush ?
Great vid as usual how much longer till I am fully qualified mark and you will employ me brilliant stuff.👍👍👍😊😊😊
Hi Tiffy, there is a drain off on that boiler bud for future ref. It’s actually the bottom part of the filling loop, it drains the slave tank
Yer someone else said you can drain that boiler through the filling loop as it’s not a NRV….. handy to know…. Cheers buddy👍🏼
Just ordered one as iv just started a plumbing course and need to start getting tools 👍🏻 any other offers let us know!
Cheers!!
Nice one Rob…. My “MJTIFF” code will always give you at least 25% off mate….🙌🏼👍🏼
Why don’t flux pots come with an applicator brush like other products.
Great video mate, always nice to see a trades person keeping the areas nice and tidy.
Even with a frosted windows in you will see everything from outside when the lights on. My neighbor had a shower next to the window and could see everything when it wasn't light out.
Great video Mark. Watching you mark up and for the radiator was fun even though I've done it a million times myself. What pencil do you use?
I hate microbore pipe too. What do you think of chrome pipe up to the rads? It's something I always suggest to save them painting them which is a right pain come maintenance later on!
Hey Mate what would you charge for the toilet job you did as the call out/ Leaking flush?
Those hiflows mate attach the filling loop hose on the heating side and drain from there its not an NRV so it drains 👍
Is it not!!!!…. I just assumed it was so didn’t even try…. Cheers mate, I know for next time
I would have drained from the pipes u had disconnected up the stairs. Btw great videos as u keep saying real world plumbing
Hi Mark (or Marc), not sure if you've done one yet as I cannot find one, but any chance you can do a video on the complete process of draining a combi boiler system down and then refilling and venting etc as a whole process? Sorry if I'm asking too much. Love your videos and keep up the good work as always!
Thanks mate….. it’s Mark with a K…😉👍🏼
I’m sure I’ve shown it but will do a video next time if I remember
@@MJTiffPlumbing Thanks mate I'll have a dig around. I'm trying to work out whether my heating needs balancing or if there's another issue as the last 3 rads get hot but not a lot of heat is given out.
After replacing a couple of rads recently If I ever have another system installed I'd insist on stop valves so each leg can be isolated.
If I do pipework, I will put the radiator 60cm fahr, only if I put the thermostat low, the boyler stop working perpanently, get off the water is it enought? This is only 15 min job. Or I need to close the elektricity and gas too??? If I do pipework heat back from the pipe which is 5 m fahr, to the boyler and explode???
I’ve just laid 80 metres of pipe, sick of the 8mm pipe blocking so changed it all to 15mm..good vid 👍🏻
Hi @gandhi1079.
Thinking to do the same this weekend, all flooring is up and house is being renovated in every aspect.
I have 8mm running to radiators which T’s off from 15mm.
Could I keep the 15mm and remove just the 8mm or do I need to add 22mm for better flow? Also did you do this in the end?
Also thanks @mjtiff I’ve been watching a lot of vids lately whilst doing my project and they’re amazing & in great detail without missing bits out that are essential to see.
👍🏻😊
@@MJTiffPlumbing you should already have 22mm pipe running from your boiler under the floorboards. Just run 15mm from the 22mm. As you say 22mm will give you better flow
Nice tidy job there mate! Do you have a rule that you stick to regarding which side of the rad you put the flow & return? Also, thermo valve - on the flow or the return?
Are you sure it was bits of the washer down the back of the pan? 🤣🤣🤣 Good vid 👌
Hahaha…… it’s was black so if it wasn’t someone needs to get to the GP fast!!!
Mark you mentioned about tool that helps centre the rad pipe before drilling the boards. Do you know what they are called?
Bread and butter jobs today then, nice little bit of work, 8mm is such a nightmare, so easy to overtighten and crush the pipe! But I do the exact same. up into 15mm
Snagged one of those unilite's while they're at an all time low, so thanks for the code! Be interesting to hear how many were sold with your code!
Have you tried those plumb tubs that wrap around the pipe? I swear by them tbh great for draining from the valve like you did there, but they are only small.
Indeed Josh….. bread and butter jobs indeed.
Bargain them lights mate, I know I’ve nearly shifted 150 in a week so far…😉 bargain of the year.
Hi mark great video, i tend to watch all your videos now appreciate the good work. Just asking are you comfortable having compression under floorboards. My boss always says not to?
Thanks mate.
Yep I don’t see an issue with them under the floor if pasted and checked when filled up
@@MJTiffPlumbing ahh right fair enough, I’m a plumber currently doing my gas training and as not being so experienced watching your videos really helps. I even got my missus moaning at me because I’m always watching back some of your old videos🤣
JG compression speedfits are put everywhere so a copper one cannot be any worse i guess. Compression not allowed for gas obviously under floor boards
Hi Mark, are all flush valve rubber seals the same or are they different depending on the make on the flush valve?
hi m8 nice steady work does it matter which pipe you connect to as in knowing flow or return n yes i stood on a board as well lol
Cheers Mick….. not now we have bi-directional TRV’s….. back in the day it was an issue
Hi Mark , i was always told at college to heat the pipe never the fitting ? And why do you cool the fittings with a wet rag any special reason im not aware of?
To be honest mate as long as your heating it it will all get hot, I’ve done it this way for 26+ years…👍🏼👍🏼
Always wipe with a wet rag after to clean the pipe or they go all green with flux that’s not been wiped off👍🏼👍🏼…. They should teach you that at college
Great video many thanks, really liked that 15mm. Amateurs should turn the electrics off first e.g. loose wires into JB or water leak etc. (note you were earthed on the pipes which will make the shock worse). I've had belts as an electrical engineer and not proud of them. More dangerous than you think as heart damage may not show up straight away. Sorry to nag. Dumb question: where notching on joists might be unacceptable for undersize joists, could you put metal plates over the top. Use a router each side to get them flush. It's an American idea - I think they do it in stud walls incase you try to drill the stud of finished wall and hit the pipe. Liked the drain down kit, much better than stick on bits of polythene. Look forward to the next one.
@@MJTiffPlumbing Great to see how professionals do stuff using their vast experience.
Hi pal. When installing a radiator, how high does the pipes be from the skirting boards?
With that locktite 55 I'm finding it comes off a little when you screw the tails in. Any idea what I'm doing wrong please? I'm not a plumber, just a DIY enthusiast. I like to do things right though.
To be honest a few strands come off a little when I do it aswell buddy but not had an issue with it
Hi sorry if I missed it. I take it you worked out which pipe was the hot? Does the hot go into the thermostat valve?
hello my good friend , just to let you know i have bought the nerrad monoblock tool kit from wplseleys brilliant piece of tool kit please be asssured im delighted with it , so it will give someone else a better chance of winning your donation of the same tool kit great watching your podcasts as always , dave from edinburgh .
There may have been a chance of soldering that 8 mm to 15 . I’ve done it plenty of times with water in the pipe , as long as you have a few inches of dry away from where you’re soldering, jobs a Gud un 👍
Yer possibly…. Just didn’t want to run the risk as wasn’t sure how well it would drain, compression for the win on this one
I always drop the pressure at the valves where your working 😎
Water out of the valves into a black bag, then chuck a black under the floor below the pipe work and cut and connect away 👌🏼😎
Don't force cool the soldered joints with a wet rag. Solder and copper contract at different rates. It will introduce cooling stresses in the joint and increase the tendency to crack
@@MJTiffPlumbing Only DIYers will be watching this channel. You are encouraging bad practices.
ive always noticed you using that matt for draining rads, i thought it was lino.
what is it called, i can't find it.
I wanted to ask a question and hope thats ok ,which is cheaper for a brand new extension being built right now two very large radiators or underfloor heating the builders asking him to decide ,i said rads must be a lot cheaper is that right ,The extension is 6 metre by 7 metres .many thanks if you could advise i know your vet busy, its in south london,
Great video again Thanks Why did they use 8mm pipe in the past?
In the 80/90’s it become a bit of a thing… a lot of people had heating systems in 8/10mm…… due to cost, speed etc..
It’s a nightmare to be honest, they block up so easy
Get yourself some cheap nappies from Aldi great for soaking up water and drips when your doing snatch jobs ....
@@MJTiffPlumbing ..yea you might get a few funny looks 🤣...but they don't half hold some water ...and just throw away , no wet rags hanging about ...👍
I ate a blue block once, many years ago! For 2 weeks after, when ever I burped I could taste bleach!
Just a quick question. What’s the name of the device to help get radiator pipes plumb? I’ve used the same method with a pen but if there is a more accurate way I would love to know
If you’ve already got a laser level, I’d use that, takes longer to do but it’s always perfectly straight
Use "MJTIFF" at checkout to get the Unilite SLR-1750 for £50........ Bargain that!!!!!
Shame it doesn't work on the EU site, but I got an extra 2€ off their sale price of 70€ instead and that's near enough £50.
And that toilet blue stuff, no no no no, never .. takes ages to get the stain out of your hands if you have to fish around the cistern to get one out
Thanks mark ordered 2x of the unlites one for a mates 40th and one for moi! Cheers for the deal code.
Great content as ever mate, nice to see you using paste … so many plumbers I employ not using it … the last one cost me a new boiler as he said it was the boiler leaking and evaporating losing pressure … guess what it was his dry fit pipe work behind the fridge weeping losing pressure. How Much does paste cost in time and materials, I’m guessing pennies per fitting ?
Any chance you doing a review of the unilite UR4.5 tool bag
Your techniques are sometimes so bad !! You should have just cut the microbore with pliers or snips, a few inches long, and then used the proper cutter whilst lifting the pipe out of the floor Cavity! So obvious ! 😂
