I definitely agree with the comment in this video about how the game can feel directionless at times. HOWEVER, for anyone out there who would like a bit more guidance while playing Lil Gator Game, just know that once you finish the main story you can talk to animals in the playground area that will give you two special items: one that directs you toward animals with unfinished side quests and another that directs you toward items you haven’t destroyed yet!
Also, Felix, I don't believe you are "not the best at English". Your English is really good in all the videos on this channel. You have excellent pronunciation!
@@nintendolife And through what I assume is your work at NL, your English (which was already quite impressive as an ESL speaker) has improved even further! It might be because you have a slight British affect to your English rather than the usual Mexican-American accents I'm used to, mind you, but you could pass off as a native speaker from a non-USA English-speaking country!
That truly surprised me as well... While it makes logical sense it's not your first language, Felix, never once did that thought come into my mind until you brought it up. Honestly, makes me more determined to pick up better foreign language skills of my own 😊... Be proud!
@@nintendolife literally pulled an all nighter cause I decided to fire it up around 11pm just to start it up not thinking I'd get sucked in. Ended up playing the full game until like 5 in the morning and the combination of lack of sleep and how relatable it was def got me to tear up as well
The older I get, the more I respect and enjoy games like Lil Gator Game that are just… fun. It has its issues (I found the lack of a map kind of annoying and I never really got the hang of the island’s layout, even after 100%ing the game), but at the end of the day, I’ll remember this game not because of its minor flaws, but because of the way it continued to surprise me. I love a game that has a million different systems and mechanics, but when you look at a game like this that manages to get so much right despite being so simple, it kinda makes you wonder how many devs are losing sight of the forest for the trees.
Hands down in my opinion I’d possibly say this is the smoothest running game on switch. Like surprisingly smooth and really pretty on an OLED model. 10/10 would recommend. Slightly reminds me of Wind Waker. Not the deepest story but definitely fun to play through.
I bought this game mainly because I saw Playtonic on the tin, but man did I catch myself smiling some big stupid smiles while playing. I felt like a kid doing kid things again. And it got me to reflect on the times my siblings and I used to play growing up, and made me wish we could play together again as adults...
Oh my goodness, this looks absolutely delightful! I just love how the lil gator is waddling around xD I impulse-bought the game on release already, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet, so I'm glad to hear it's good! And I agree with you Felix, sometimes a little direction-less..ness(?) can be quite fun!
I got the Steam version and will instant-buy if a physical Switch port comes along. Love the cel-shaded polygon art personally. Looks toony and just wholesomely playful. The Pokémon-fan in me wants to insert my fav starter Totodile in there and imagine I'm playing an episode out of the Pokémon mini movies. The characters are loveable for sure though and I feel the lil Gator and my fav Mon would just play around for days on end. X3 Looking forward to this side-quest-based mini-Zelda filled with child-like spirit. =D
I may be in my mid 40's, but I feel for Lil' Gator. I know how it feels when you want to play (or hang out with someone), and everyone is always too busy (or so they say). Seriously, the older you get (and the older others get), the more everyone acts like they don't care if you even exist. Even family. With that said....Super Rare Games just announced the physical release of this game, and now I can finally acknowledge it's existence and BUY IT!
Just completed the game. The emotions that this game brought up are incredible. Makes me miss my childhood, and unlocked some memories that I haven't thought about in forever. Simply amazing.
Just from watching the review and haven't touched the game yet, I can say that Lil Gator is a very solid 8/10. A little disappointed that it wasn't a 9, but I can see reasons why the score got docked down. I'll be definitely getting this game in the near future
Definitely on the wishlist. I just imagined clicking that subscribe button. With enough imagination, you'll notice the number of imaginary subscriptions having gone up.
It's a good game and worth a buy but: - too much dialog - story is too "on the nose" - a lot of cool mechanics but really shallow utilisation - the bubble gum is OP - lack of biomes

Aw, that really means a lot, thanks! - Felix
You genuinely have amazing english I have to agree

Okay ANYTHING that reminds me of A Short Hike is gonna have me on board real quick. This looks adorable!
it even has pixel mode
Game is fantastic, def emotional for someone who had an older sibling that could relate to the story. Also the movement is so smooth and fun
Also really emotional for someone who is the older sibling. Brilliant story that made me tear up quite a bit - Felix

This is my game of the year. So simple, yet rewarding and exciting.
My 5 year old loves this game so far. She likes the quests but mostly just loves running around and playing.

I beat Later Alligator on Switch the day before this released. Am I really going to get another cute Gator game?
*Glances at my own username*
YES
🤣🤣🤣

More A Short Hike style gaming? Sign me up.
Just chilling out messing about having a nice time? Absolutely.
I expected to like this game, but holy shit i wasn't expecting to love it as much as i did. Probably my personal goty tied with sonic frontiers

Super Rare Games is gonna be doing a physical release of Lil Gator Game soon, keep an eye out for that
This game is freaking awesome well worth 13 bucks, great dialog, great controls and it's alot of fun
Great video Felix, I particularly enjoyed your comments after the review which have really made me want to play this one! Thanks for everything you do
Glad I could be of help, and thanks for the kind words! - Felix
Seriously such a charming and fun little game. Easily worth the $14. It’s perfect to just relax and get lost in
This game is so frikking good ive laughed and cried and so much fun exploring and trying out the different mechanics. Its a reaally good game.
I don't know how I'd like it gameplaywise with static enemies, but I does look beautiful, I really love the cel shaded look.
Is this game digital only? Or can u buy a physical copy? any help is appreciated
My favorite new genre: Shorthikelikes
What a game ... Childhood and childish are keywords, somethings should just be simple to enjoy and this game seems it's great for this purpose
After watching this review I just adquire the game :) It looks cute and interesting

this game make me want to collect amazon cardboard to create imaginary foe & puzzle and play make believe Zelda with the kids
Is this game good for players prone to motion-sickness from constant turning and twisting of the 3D camera?
I didn’t get motion sick. Some games do make me sick. It lets you adjust the camera distance in the settings.

My 6-year-old is loving this game! There's a lot of text in it so we approach it as storybook.
Definitely on the wishlist. I just imagined clicking that subscribe button. With enough imagination, you'll notice the number of imaginary subscriptions having gone up.
Wowza, with an imagination as great as mine, I CAN actually imagine that subscriber number going up! Thanks a lot! - Felix
But… a short hike was described as animal crossing meets breath of the wild, so this is a breath of the wild meets animal crossing meets a short hike?
So cute! I’m gonna buy this
the "bad things" you mentioned are part of the immersion
I love a good NintendoLife indie review
Super Rare Games are releasing a physical copy. 👍😊
This should tide me over until Tears of the Kingdom comes out! 😂
It looks perfect, except my kid can't quite read just yet.
A'ight, you guys sold me on this.
I love these kind's of game,i should get this one some day
The mouth movements reminds me of the grumpuses from Bugsnax
Be a good game for my kid to play.
The child-like art? The nonbinary MC? Im in love 😭😭
the Link is my best favourite minecraft character
this game deserves dlc.
This game looks fantastic. Does anyone know if it will get a physical release?
Not heard anything I'm hoping it'll get a Super Rare Games release
10 months later, Super Rare games is putting it out physically. 10/26/23
This feel like tearaway + Breath of the wild
Oh okay!
Reminds me of A Short Hike.
I had no idea this game was going to absolutely obliterate me, I was a complete mess at the end lmaooo
Review didn't really sell me on a game that all the footage looks the same.
Exemplary doesnt mean example in the context it is used here. Otherwise awesome review as always, srry to nitpick ;(
Very Wind Wakeresque
Weird there's no mention of A Short Hike. This looks like a sequel.
Dark and Darker

A short hike on steroids
Oh no if this is like Zelda idt I can play 😂
Great Review, one small thing, Lil gators pronouns do happen to be they/them, though i get that slip as i don't believe that's ever stated in game.
Jesus christ
@@TheCephalon thank you!

Has this game just literally stolen assets from A Short Hike?!
