- How to video. My wife Sandy and I totally renovated a single wide trailer down in Florida to make a dream vacation home. We did all the construction ourselves and purchased the appliances along with all the furniture from local resale stores. This video shows both before and after photos of the entire project lasting 3 months. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Pati. The actual cost of renovation is a bit hard to figure because we replaced all apliances and furniture at the same time but the short answer is the actual construction was around 18k but that included the garage too. Good luck with yours and let me know how it's going.

Remodeling an older mobile home you can buy cheap is a good investment. New single wides run $50 to $70 a square foot.

Was the new pitch on the roof DIY? Or did you hire a contractor for it?
Actually no great effort went into figuring the roof pitch. I knew the trailer to be 14 ft wide so I just purchased 12 ft. long 2x6 and laid them out on the ground to work out with as much pitch and overhang as that allowed. It worked out to around a 6/12 pitch but I never actually checked it.

Oh thanks. Well the trailer needed a lot of work including new floors and a roof over. We added kitchen cabinets and with all the appliances and a new front porch the price of renovation came in at 24k.

Hi Terry . I purched it on line from Mobile Homes Parts store. It cost around $30 per 5 Foot section. Hope this helps.

What was the cost difference between the remodel and comparable pre built
Hi Michael. It's a little hard to figure a price comparison because my wife and I did all the work so we didn't have to pay any labor cost. That said we actually bought the land and the trailer had no value because it was not considered saveable. So I think the actual money spent on construction materials without the appliances and furniture was around 12 thousand dollars. Hope that helps.

personally, I had the money and the time, I would have gutted the entire house and started over...new wiring, plumbing and wallboard..... windows and insulation.... or, if it was just as expensive, or cheaper.... just buy a new manufactured home to put on the land... providing I owned it.....

Cost of renovating a messed up mobile home, anyone? Is it worth it for investing?
Well I guess it depends on how much construction is needed. As you can see on this video our trailer actually had no value so we only paid for the land with improvements such as well septic and electric. That said, Sandy and I thought we would go ahead and invest the time and money to save it. You can do a little at a time or a lot all at once . Best of luck

Although it's Appearance was Improved the Home Paint Colors arent Exactly Selling Points Color's where way to Loud and Furniture look Out Dated as well gave it a Dated look.
I totally understand my friend. Thing is we already have a traditional home up in Ohio and this one is a winter vacation house so anything goes. Thanks for the honest post . We do love to hear peoples opinions.
