What memories-- I first heard this on Hazen Schumacher's (1927-2015) "Jazz Revisited" radio program (1967-1997) in the 1970's, I believe the particular show was a special on Bill Harris. In any case, I was flipping through a jazz encyclopedia tonight and came across Harris' name, and I remembered the title of this tune due to it's unusual nature, and sure enough-- here it is on UA-cam, so I can hear it again after some 45 years! Classic bebop sound, if there ever was! Thanks Johnny! (and thanks, Hazen-- RIP)

+MADISON HARRIS He was pretty well known in his day. But alas, things do change.
The tune, incidentally, is very hip.

This bio does not give much information about him. He had some other notable recordings, although they are not listed. He was also with Norman Granz and Jazz at the Philharmonic (JATP). He died pretty young.

Bill Harris possibly on bass trumpet here. It’s a valve instrument.

I guess it is listed as valve trombone.
