Hey Martin, I think there’s something you should consider when planning for the marble targets. You should rebuild your marble bounce accuracy setup so that the marbles land in the cup but then leave it for a few days and occasionally test if it’s still accurate because there’s a chance that the accuracy might change as the surroundings do. It could be that your spring mechanism gets sticky on humid days and thus cause the marble to not bounce as far just as an example. This is only so you don’t run into issues when you have a really small target for the marbles to land in and so you don’t have to do fine tuning before each use of the machine. But I totally love how you test every single part of the MMX before you mount it to the final machine.
My biggest concern watching this way the silicon breaking down over time and maybe losing its bounce. but I suspect that wouldn't happen often and would be something to happen slowly, though less dense materials maybe more often? But I know almost nothing about this.

Sometimes you just have to let go. Engineer and music composition are very similar in that way. Even if you've spent hours or days working on a single part, if it isn't right, you just have to let go of it and change to something better.

I know you don't like releasing the little bops you put in these videos because they aren't finished and aren't at the level of quality you hold yourself to, but trust me, this track is a certified hip-wigglin' bop.

In terms of sounds of the mics, I prefered Number 6 and Number 8! Keep up the great work Martin, when it's done it'll be amazing!
I'm always impressed with the end result of your mastery of experimental manipulation toward the creation of the music; the production looks insanely tedious but the end result always sounds incredibly wonderful.

When I was a physics student, I read that the fidelity of a drum is almost exclusively a function of how perfectly circular and "in a plane" the ring where the drum head sits is. I audibly yelped when you cut that notch out of the top. I guess it's less important when you've got thick silicone for the drum heads. Hehe.
Now this is the kind of progress that makes my neck hair tingle! Feeling like a proud uncle watching a kid successfully build a Lego set or design their own things... Have been following this since the build of the first machine. It's going to be awesome!

Why did you always put the mic directly under the hit point for the tests? Moving it closer to the edges might yield some interesting sound variations...
@@dino_bread4246 no, otherwise the sound wouldn't change when he changed the thickness of the silicone. As the surface wears, the sound will change. That will always be the case, no matter where the mic is. My issue was that the sound was too clicky/poppy, and maybe moving the mic to the side would make it more thumpy.
When I heard about these 3D printed parts being printed on one of the special 3D printers I was thinking "He is not going to janky modify them in the end ... is he?". Turns out he just outright drops them (not in the Linus way). I had to just smile when I saw the wood. Nice. Sounds good.
We need to fund Martin harder so he can hire a whole team of people to do his grunt work, allowing him to create more videos with the same amount of effort. 1 week is too long to wait for this wonderful content. This is the ONLY UA-cam channel I have the bell on for.
As a brass player, I can barely hear the differences between the different configurations, so I believe this is really overkill for a simple beat. However, your persistence to find the perfect sound and look for everything in this build is so inspiring. I would never think of trying so many configurations if I were building something like this. Major props, man. I love what you do.
It's incredible how 10 minutes of nothing but drumbeats made from rubber sheets and metal balls and a bit of giggling from an old swedish musician can prove for such good content.

If it's centred it's always the same sound no matter the wear and tear on the skin, at least that's my assumption and ease of replication in parts

Because you can't test the sound of the 3d printed holders if you have not printed them.
