  • The Making Of my Master of Arts degree sculpture.
*the base was drawn with help of a projector, because each individual pieces were too wide for my Polargraph Machine workspace I prepared.

    Sculpture description:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sculpture of a floating horse done for my Master of Arts degree at Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, Poland. Subject of this sculpture is „Monument of space horse. In tribute to the most meritorious animal that drove development of civilization”. I thought about what was very important in my opinion in the past that helped our civilization to accelerate the advancement of human race and our world. And I came to conclusion that transport of people and cargo was incredibly important. Without animals like horses and transport like ships we could be still stuck in the past. This work was created inside 3D application (3ds Max), then unwrapped flat in Pepakura and printed on cardboard with Polargraph Drawing Machine, then cut and glued with hot glue gun. At the end I’ve added mirror foil on upper part of foundation to achieve a nice effect of reflection.

This is SO COOL! You are really talented.
This is very exciting. The statements about horses - civilization's hero animal for sure - are so true. Thank you for sharing all of this.

@@grzegorzmoksa3011 I just wish there was an alternative program for Mac desktop computers. 3DS Max - obviously wonderful software - is just FAR too expensive for mere mortal hobbyists like me, and the famous Pepekura (sp?) app simply is not available outside the windows environment without a lot of mods to use it (by the way, they really missed a lot of profit on that one). Do you know of any budget alternatives for creating lowpoly patterns with a Mac?

@@AerialLensVideo Instead of 3ds Max for modeling you can use Blender for free on Mac. As for Pepakura I've found article that might fix your problem with compatibility. Type in your search engine "Running Pepakura Designer on a Mac to Make Papercraft", it's the title of article. There is a way to port Windows application to Mac, and as I believe running virtual machine on Mac with Windows inside is illegal and against the rules, so the only legal option would be porting the application to Mac

@@grzegorzmoksa3011 Thank you! I will get Blender right away, but unfortunately find the idea and methods prescribed to run Windows programs on a Mac far to complex and, now, the Mac operating systems are buggy with many 64 GHz and will not even run 32GHz programs under most circumstances. I'm sure computer experts can deal with that, but not myself. Not giving up though. Thanks again.

cool project. I'm looking into creating something in a similar style. Did you consider any other types of material besides cardboard?

Thanks Andrew! Yes, you can try standard paper, but make sure it's at least 300gsm, so it won't be too squishy when you'll be connecting all the parts. You can also visit my instagram profile to check two other projects I did following the same workflow, but with paper. It's also easier, because you don't need dedicated drawing machine, just a local printing house and you're ready to go. On the other hand if you want something more noble I would highly suggest to try metal plates as a material, but then you need skills in welding. Have fun with your project and don't forget to send me results. I'm curious what you're going to create

      @@grzegorzmoksa3011 I haven't tried anything that big, but here's a project I'm working on ua-cam.com/video/1YOEcJJnBIM/v-deo.html

Unfortunately this project is not for sale. It's part of my Master's Degree and I can't sell it, due to the agreement with university
