Jake English The band is a huge part of musical theatre. Without them, there would be no accompaniment for the singers and it would sound weird. Don't take them for granted.

I can't really see why people dislike this Mimi so much. I like her singing voice pretty much and even though she's not the best Mimi I've ever seen, she's certainly not the worst either.

The set is amazing
the fact of the matter is that people are being harsh on the poor girl who plays mimi because she was to work a fair bit harder than some of the other actors in regards to movement and things like that, imo she's as good as the others. they all seemed to have hit some bung notes at one point or another. seriously.
Claudia Faustus: Oh, PLENTY of the actors had off key notes, the difference is, Mimi is a VERY beloved character who this rendition doesn't do justic as far as depth of character. Like...this portrayal thus far, seems to make her out to simply be a ditzy sex kitten. The actress playing Mimi can sing, but choices she's made as an actress detract from the character/show. Like, holding on to notes for too long, leaves her at time rushing to catch back up to the music. Over doing the sex movements in Out Tonight, and even when Roger was pushing her away in the song that followed (verses acting hurt) is part of what is doing it. None of the critique is unfair. It just seems like she doesn't get this character. She's not talentless, this just wasn't the best work . And let's be real...there are some shows that ppl are super sensitive about (/have high standards for).
The mimi part seemed soo premeditated. Mimi is such a deep character and although she has a great voice the acting just doesn't resonate

That Mimi was a CHOICE
The problem with Mimi is not that she's a bad singer, she pretty good!! Definitely heard worst voices (ex. Vanessa Hudgens at the Hollywood Bowl). But this Mimi just over acts. If she'd pull it back a little she'd be great. Besides I have a feeling she was trained for more operatic pieces.

She can sing, but she was doing too much physically, which detracted from her voice. She also tried to hang on to some notes for too long.

I was a "fixture" in musical theatre as a child/teen; NO, this wasn't the best, but I saw the ORIGINAL casting of rent on broadway; was my gift for high school graduation. it was INCREDIBLE!!!!!! anthony rapp; idina menzel (as maureen)....... once you see the maiden voyage of a play, everything else (likely) pales in comparison. also, daphne rubin-vega, who played mimi, was (IS) INCREDIBLE... all I have to say about this 1 is: collins = great acting. mark/maureen/joanne (and sometimes mimi) = GREAT VOICES.... one question: why isn't the actress who played mimi listed along w/ everyone else? everyone is ragging on her/singling her out; I've seen FAR worse performances... her voice is pretty dern good; acting... eh. I think she was selected for her voice and unique look - not 2 bad criteria, if you ask me! JMHO. I loved the original staging of rent and can NOT say enough of it...

That Thing :: Original Mimi isn't even BAD. This Mimi, as someone pointed out, probably would've been better as a Maureen. She did too much over acting for Mimi...made her come across Ditzy

reading the comments I thought I was about to see the worst Mimi ever......shes actually a decent singer a few off beat moments and sometimes she does over do it like with the struting toward roger it got a tiny bit awkward after the millionth time but she's definitely not the worst Mimi I've seen in a production posted on youtube....she doesnt even crack the top10 of that list.
Mimi was actually pretty good, she has a very pretty voice, but had a couple of troubles staying in time, but that's ok (nerves are a bitch)

If I'm honest, the girl playing Mimi has an amazing voice but she's out of time most of the time or goes on a bit longer than she should. Other than that, stop hating on her.
Who ever played Mimi was doing the most and just not good. I'm not even basing it off Mimi's original character, she's just not good period, that's just my opinion.
I'd have to agree with you. I think she made it too much of her own. All the improv she was doing with her voice was making her off beat with almost every song.
