    Thank you for this! This was perfect because you are my exact height and almost exact measurements. I’ve wanted to visit Universal since I was a kid in the 90s but I could never afford/justify a trip all the way across the country. I’m finally going to do it next year when Epic Universe opens. I’m so excited I can’t wait!!!! I’ve started saving money and trying to lose weight to make sure I can ride absolutely everything. 🎉

      Also bear in mind that Epic Universe uses different manufacturers for their rides. I believe the Donkey Kong mine cart is Intamin (Velocicoaster, Hagrids and Flight of the Hippogryph) but Stardust Racers and the Werewolf spinning coaster are both Mack Rides - but I found Mack coaster seats to be a little bigger and more forgiving than Intamin or B&M (Hulk). I rode Icon at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the UK at 130kg (so 280ish lbs) and didn't have an issue whereas I would have on something by B&M or Intamin. Looking at Stardust Racers, they use the Mack thrill coaster seats so this should work out well. Just done some research and the How To Train Your Dragon coaster is also Intamin, so definitely keep your eyes on those.

      So we went last spring. I’m 6’1” and I didn’t fit on forbidden journey, hulk and rip ride rocket. Escape was extremely difficult not because of my weight but my legs. As well as Hagrid’s, I had to push really hard on the restraint to get it to lock. I was uncomfortable but I wasn’t not going on it after standing in line for an hour

    I was there just last month (mid May 2024) and I'm a 6'4" 330lb guy. I'm big both ways. Here was my experience:
    1) I didn't test Race Through New York or Dr. Dooms cause I wasn't interested in riding them so I can't say if they worked for me.
    2) The only two rides I tested and was turned away from were Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Rip Ride Rocket. Bummer but I was just super stoked that I was able to ride Velocicoaster and Hagrid's as they were my two most anticipated rides and I was scared I wouldn't fit but I fit in both test seats fine and loved them both!
    3) Ripsaw Falls I had a staff member come over to tell me that the bar does not need to come down at all for me, as long as I could sit down and get up I was good to go and also said I'd be best in the middle two seats so my long legs could stretch into the seats in front of me. I fit very tight and could barely squeeze myself out after sitting down but I managed and risked the actual ride anyway. They had me go into a boat all on my own (cause of my long legs so I don't interfere with a rider in front of me) and I enjoyed it and had a much easier time getting out of the actual ride because I was wet! 😂
    4) I had the absolute best staff experience with The Incredible Hulk! I tried the bigger test seat for Hulk and I couldn't get the buckle to come up far enough when a staff member came over and said he'd help me. After struggling a little bit he got the buckle in and said I was good to go and as I begin to make my way into the line he called me back and said he would escort me up to the ride because he KNOWS he can buckle me in and he didn't want anyone else struggling and telling me I can't ride. So I basically got to skip the line because he wanted me to make sure I didn't get turned away. So the first train we tried he couldn't get it to buckle for some reason and he asked me to step off and we'd try the next train as some of the belts are just a tad bit longer and the second time we succeeded and I was able to ride! I was so humbled by the lack of judgement and instead by the commitment they had to ensure I was able to ride and enjoy my time there!
    But the wonderful staff experience at the Incredible Hulk didn't end there! The next day my family came and we all wanted to ride it! So we were working our way through the line when we came across the security checkpoint and the same guy who buckled me in yesterday was there at the checkpoint. So I asked him if he remembered me and if he remembered which train I was on due to the first train being too tight and the second one working fine. He told me he didn't remember the exact train but once again told me AND my family to follow him and he'll make sure he gets me buckled again. So once again I was able to skip the line and bring my family with me. I was so humbled by these staff members! #UOFistBump
    Overall I rode almost every ride I wanted to with the exception of two and I had so much fun! Once again I'm 6'4" tall and weigh 330lbs and was able to fit on most rides so if you are around my size you may be good to ride them as well!!

    The compromise for having larger seats will at some point be having less people in each dispatch. On the guest end, this means longer lines. And with the dispatch rate remaining the same, this compounds quite a bit. The biggest complaint at any park is long lines.
    Theoretically, let's say Hulk makes a seat that's a lot bigger. Now there's potentially a safety risk for people on the smaller end riding in this seat. So either they aren't allowed on or the line length increases yet again.
    It's definitely a problem, but there is no easy answer that will satisfy everyone who wants to ride and the parks are aware and do attempt to min/max the frustrations and non of their guests.

    • @2foolishmortals
      @2foolishmortals  5 місяців тому

    Appreciate the video, as someone that is larger and goes to universal orlando regularly, I am an advocate of the test seats. As far as Dudley Do Right goes as long as you fit in the seat they dont necessarily make you pull the lap bar down. So you should be perfectly fine! Enjoy! Also I am 6'2" 320lbs, 44" waist and very broad shouldered. I fit everything fairly comfortable except for forbidden journey and dr doom, where i do not fit and Hulk is definitely a tight fit though

      Ok. That's a good questions. Honestly, I'll have to think about it. . .especially in the coming weeks when we take on the water rides at Universal! If I'm being hoenst, I'll likely just wear my Chucks and call it good. I get caught in the rain with my Chucks [and Docs] all the time and it doesn't really bother me all that much so I can't imagine that the water rides will be that much worse. . . I mean we're talking ankle deep puddles in Disney so. . . 🤷 We'll keep you posted as to the soggy foot raiting for those water rides though. I'm sure you're not the only one wondering. 😄

    As an addendum to The Incredible Hulk, yes those seats are narrow! I forced myself into the "big boy" seats 4 or 5 times (It was a bucket list ride for me, I wanted to ride it since it opened in 1999) and the following day my hips were bruised! Same as the old Dragon Challenge seats (same manufacturer as Hulk with the same style seats - just below the track).
    As I said on the previous part, when I visited I was 5ft11 (around 180cm) tall, 300lbs (136kg) in 44-46" jeans and a 50" chest. I got on a vast majority of things due to my fat distribution. I feel like they should be putting the manufacturers recommendation for seat dimensions and restraint tolerances, as I presume parks have this information so people can make an informed choice before they enter the park as $100+ is a lot to not get to ride attractions you want to.
    I will also say this - as larger people we do have to understand that these rides are designed to be high thrill, so need to make sure that the rides are safe for a majority of people so they are designed to make sure smaller people are safe during the ride. The big thrill rides also exert a lot of forces on the body. At points the G Forces on Hulk would have caused my body to be 4 times my regular weight (1200lbs) at the point where it hits 4G. I do think there are accommodations that the manufacturers could make (for example making the bigger seats on B&M rides like Hulk wider as well as more vertical space in the restraint) but, at present, there is this expectation that we are just going to have to roll the dice. It's the same thing with disabled people - there's a reason why these rides insist on you being able to enter, exit and apply the restraints on your own - There was an incident on Superman Ride of Steel where a double leg amputee was ejected from the ride due to the lap bar restraint, where he ended up passing away. There's a reason why all major thrill rides have a laundry list of "do not ride if" warnings at the entrance, and I think it's wise to remember that as we look at this. No body shaming here, just looking at it from the perspective of theme park legal and ride manufacturers.

    • @2foolishmortals
      @2foolishmortals  4 місяці тому +1

      Absolutely and I 100% agree. . . sometimes you have to take a look at these things from a different perspective to fully understand what is going on here. That's especially true when we're talking about these intense attractions, which I'll be honest. . . I didn't realize were as intense as they were until I took the time to look up the stats. Safety is always going to be the first priority and it should be 'cause when things go wrong on these massive machines, things go VERY wrong and people can and have died. Just like you mentioend. Thanks again for sharing more great insights! 😄

      @@2foolishmortals I mean accidents outside of temporary carnivals are minimal (you're more likely to have an accident on the way to/from the park than at the park itself) but, especially with something like a large thrill coaster, when it goes wrong it properly goes wrong!

    I appreciate this so much. First, you aren't all that large... you look amazing. So having you warn us that you seem to be at the max scared me. That said, this is extremely helpful in helping me decide to avoid Universal for a good while. I'll stick with Disney, which is much more accommodating to sizes and abilities. I've been much larger, but am now at at size 22/24, but have some hip/belly fit issues because of my substantial weight loss and skin. Also, because of an accident, I have mobility issues on my entire right side, and have had two leg surgeries in the last year. Just getting in and out of some rides can be a challenge, but so far I've fit in nearly everything...at Disneyland. Oddly, my biggest issue is LEG space for my right leg because it doesn't have the ability to bend all the way or tuck in. Teacups are impossible, and oddly, Pirates really hurts if I don't get the right seat because of leg room. But, if this helps anyone else, a cast member at Disneyland (who I went to City Hall to compliment because she was amazing) actually gave me a great tip for most rides with belts. She showed me how to grab the belt, while still standing, pull the belt around you and latch it, then sit and let it ratchet down. This has helped me so much and save a lot of time and embarrassment by holding everyone up struggling with the belt. BUt after seeing this series on the test seats, I think Universal will wait until I'm better healed from my surgeries.

      I'm so glad. Also, THANK YOU! 😊 You know, what you said right there at the top of your comment is one of the reasons I was so motivated to share my experience testing these seats with you all. Often, I think that some people are under the impression that whether or not you'll be able to fit on an attraction is obvious. . . . . but that's not always the case. Having the measurements I do, I couldn't pass on the opportunity to share the information I would have liked to have access to before my first visit!
      Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience and some tips for those who might need them! It can be easy to forget how challenging it is to get into and out of some of these attractions and tips are always helpful.
