I envy you running right after getting up early in the morning. I just cannot do it right after getting up. I tried it for some time and it’s always as if I have to drag someone extra along. My times and efforts are way worse. It works if I have time to wake up and have some coffee but work life makes this impossible.
(Paused after 7 minutes) I've run every day for almost a year, and I think my body has adapted to it. I don't get any significant pain. Based on the pain complaints of non-runners in my household, it seems I'd have more pain if I didn't run at all!
Very well said Ben. Everyone wants a quick fix for their fat loss, and not realizing that they need to change their lifestyle. Most people regain their fat when they stop the exercise and go back to their old diet/lifestyle.
Can't out run a bad diet. I should know I have lost no weight in 2 months of going from unable to run more than 1/4 of a mile to running 4k. Fat changed to muscle but total weight with 2 llb range. Still I feel better in myself.
Great video Ben! As the ultimate ultra runner Yiannis Kouros said, running long distances is a mind game and not so much about physique! Congrats on the amazing half marathon results! You smashed it!
@@ThisMessyHappy Killian is a great athlete but to be honest he stood no chance against Yiannis. I’ve watched some of his races and up in the mountains he’s truly the best out there. However even if he did break Yannis’ 24-hour race record for me it would be outstanding but not valid as it wasn’t really an official race and he chose to run in a day that would be best for him (something that never happens in official races). I have the same opinion about kipchoge’s under 2 hour marathon race. It’s truly outstanding how a human being can run a marathon so fast but having pacers in front of you and doing it it unofficially takes away some of the flair of an official competition.
I ran every day this January. Mixed up the distances a lot. Did a lot of evening runs in the dark (on pavements). Finished the month off with a ten miler one weekend and a Half Marathon the final one. No injuries. Like you, afterwards I've gone back to a more normal schedule with regular rest days. It's an interesting mental exercise and something I'd definitely do again.
Good effort Ben, if I wanted to get up at 5am in the morning I’d have become a farmer. I admire people that do early morning runs, personally I like going out around 11am, 14:00, 19:00.
Totally agree with your mind telling you that you can't do it. Just started the david goggins book, (Your recommendation) and am trying to train the mind into not giving up when out for a run, 3 weeks into running 3-4 times a week (all at 6:30am) after no running for mths and back loving running.cant wait for your half marathon vid.😀
Thanks David. That Goggins book just gave me no excuses really 😂 but it’s all about building enough consistency until it’s habit and it’s harder to NOT train than it is to train 😳😂
You're a busy man Ben and a huge incentive to me.... you might not have noticed me on Strata yet 😂 but I've run every day for almost 800 days on the trot - and I'm not the only one - shout it you want any tips!!
Having watched this the evening after the Half Marathon I wonder if this is a new style of new coaching plan? 🤔 Run every day, a weeks rest, smash the living daylights out of a Half!! 😂💪👌🏃♂️
It would be interesting to try this using Jeff Galoway's Walk Run method. It might make running every day less stressful on the body, and more sustainable over the long term.
@@ThisMessyHappy I moved to Utah from the Southern United States (basically at sea level). It's nice to be near the mountains...when I can breathe. haha
Try to do something everyday. Started in May. I either walk, jog(as best I can) or cycle. Yesterday didn't feel great, almost didn't completed 3k jog. Took today off and feel so guilty for doing it. Anybody else feel guilty when taking a day off
The guilt doesn’t last. I’ve trained myself to feel proud when I take a day off because I know my default is to drive myself in to the ground so now I feel good for listening to my body and doing what I think is the right thing 😊
@@ThisMessyHappy - I didn’t do testing before or after. It was just a challenge that my friends put together. I noticed that I was a little stronger but no crazy gains. It’s hard to say because I started pretty out of shape and only worked my way back to about 75% 🤣
Well done Ben, just for getting out there early every morning in this weather brrrr!! 🌧️🌪️ ❄️🥶 I completed a 111 day streak from the 14th July to 1st November and have been glad not to be going out everyday since then with winter approaching. I completed a total of 666 miles with the shortest distances being 5k and the longest being a 25 mile XC run during the 2nd week and then completing Marathon distance on Day 97. The last 2 weeks after running the Marathon were definitely a grit my teeth and aim to get the remaining mileage done that I wanted, I think that during those 2 weeks most days I ran a minimum distance of 10k per outing. Had a full weeks rest and then tested myself over a hilly 10k route on my first run back, results were pleasing considering that I have been a long way off fitness since being injured in 2018, I was only 1 minute 50 off my 10k PB and hadn't gone flat out. I noticed the lower heart rate readings too. Need to work on getting some top end speed back over the coming weeks/months. You definitely learn a lot about yourself and that you can keep going when things get tough by running every day 👍
That’s amazing to read!! What a streak. That’s incredible. I genuinely don’t think my body could but, if I’ve learnt anything, it’s that I keep restricting myself 🤦🏻♂️😂
@@ThisMessyHappy you definitely could if I managed it 😂 I struggled on numerous days/weeks, but enjoyed a lot of it too. Whether it is beneficial or the best way to train is debatable. Consistency is definitely key but I think setting a training plan with weekly/monthly mileage targets and incorporating a few quality sessions and rest days is more beneficial. I was doing some workout sessions early in the streak and said that I was going to focus on some speedwork after I had my week's rest, but have got progressively lazier during November/December.
New subscriber here. Was so interested in this & had a few a-ha 💡 moments while watching this. I used to run everyday & particularly loved event runs, but running that much messed up my hips so badly that I needed surgery on both of them this year. Wasn’t fun. I miss running so much, but I’ve learnt that in future I’ll need to mix up my exercise plan more & incorporate much lower impact forms of exercise. Thankfully I love swimming & live in Australia, so I’m very lucky that I’ve got other great options. 🤩 Love how it’s all about the process rather than being an outcome driven motivation for you. 🏃♂️ Great video! 👏🙌
Hi Amy, thanks for the kind words and welcome to the madness 😂 I’m glad the video resonated in some way and hopefully the content on the channel will help you on your journey 😊
Don't think I will run every day 6/7 days 5-10 x 3k and 1x 5/6k. Think I will take a long walk 5/6k on my rest day every week. I think that is sustainable for me and will cycle machine instead of outdoor run if conditions to bad for running. As long as I am doing something.
Thanks buddy. Some vids are that length but my channel took off when I tweaked the length to the 12-16 min range. Some will still be shorter in future but I’m mixing it up 😊👍🏻

Hey buddy, I almost thought you were my brother in law for a second as he’s James W too! 😂 no I didn’t change anything else at all. The only one thing that could have affected it was that I was coming off of a string of injuries going back over a year that had prevented me from training consistently. So the likelihood is that my HR was way higher than usual and I was bringing it back down to my normal levels by getting a bit of consistency in 👍🏻
I would say look at tricks like only allowing yourself to breathe through your nose for the first km to ensure you don’t go out too fast. Stuff like that that will help you regulate your pace a bit better? 😊
Do u think if u were wearing compression socks/pants, it wudve help with the wear and tear? And did u do any strength training as well in that 30 days or jst purely running?
After 20 year break from running, im doing a lot lot of cross training and strength, yoga, conditioning exercises, and run only 2-3 times a week, focusing on long run, intervals and maybe tempo run. I have found great improvements on this as i can do 1-2 hours cross training building my endurance per day and weights and plyometrics build my muscles whilst yoga and conditioning work on my weaknesses ( mainly one bad hip i injured as a teenager).
