Insightful conversation about a reclusive poet who grows on you with each rereading of her poems. Robert Lowell's "The Skunk Hour" is a sparse but very eloquent tribute to E. Bishop and her shy Muse.
I enjoyed the debate and discussion. Bishop has been my favourite poet for the last 2 years. I trust that all of you read her wonderful jewels of Geography III (1976).
Such an illuminating talk! Loads of thanks to the uploader and the talkers --- allof them are great experts on Bishop. My only regret is that Schowartz speaks too slowyly(though clearly) --- possibly due to his old age, and doesn't give enough time to Bonnie Constello and Alice Quinn. Alice apparently knows almost everything about Bishop and on sever occasions utters the very words that Schowartz meant but didn't manage to roll out.
I believe Jean Valentine is the mother of my former poetry professor, Brooks Haxton. Didn't realise she knew so much about Bishop. Please correct me if I am wrong about her son.
Elizabeth Bishop danced on the edge of the precipice all her life. Some of her poems are muted notations of the score that offset the choreography of staying alive with interludes of dying.
poetry my love and hate relationship with you drive me crazy confused words words alpha omega I hate you yet I love you a bitter sweet pain and horror... so ignorant that I hate these effelgence of words and words o oppression of words tyranny yet liberation release suicidal destruction construction.... building blocks ...
Thank you!
Bishop was just fabulous! Only Sylvia Plath's work can be compared to hers... BRAVO!

'Shant' (pron 'Shahnt') is used a lot in England.
Poetry for the hearts of the world

There is a time to listen quietly while drunk.
Bishop might agree.
A "bight" is a small enclosed stretch of water? I don't think so.

That woman who asked the first question and gave herself plug. Ugh
No Deplorables in this room! And that's the more the pity. Poetry shouldn't be just for rich silver haired women of the East Coast. It's for everyone.
I can't take the babble of these people ...sorry. Why don't they just shut up and let the poetry do the talking?
Academics are a disgusting breed indeed
